There is a lot of wealth in FL. Perhaps she is wealthy. My humanities classes in college were full of Trust Fund babies. Some of them worked in restaurants even though they did not have to work. They spent spring breaks in Cancun, Miami, etc. Even if she is not rich, this is America, people are free to dream and be who they want. She is probably looking for a rich guy. Can't blame her for that. LOL

We lived in Naples for 40+ years and saw the overwhelming changes that too place there. While growth was to be expected what growth that happened to Naples and Collier County was totally overboard. There was no interest by the community leaders and politicians to help control the growth. All they could see was more money. Back in the 70's they would always say that we will never allow the west coast to become like the east coast. Well it's well on it's way. The infrastructure such as roads and utilities has never been able to keep up with the growth causing many problems over the years. But again, no one in charge seems to care, it's all about build, build build. One of the saddest things is the total disregard for the history of the community and it's natives and long time residents. It's all about taking care of the newcomers and the money that they are bringing with them. There is very little history left of what was Naples years ago. Probably the worst part is what the cost of living in Naples has become. Over the years they have little by little pushed out the middle class and working families. The cost of housing whether it be owning real estate or renting has gotten totally out of control for the average working person. So many of the people that work in Naples now have to live sometimes an hour away in Lee County as they can no longer afford the cost of housing in Collier County. Don't even talk about getting insurance for your home as the cost is overwhelming that's even if you can get insurance. And if you do don't be surprised if your policy get cancelled with little to no notice. Oh, and don't forget you may need flood insurance too. Naples truly has many very nice attributes especially if your are a retired wealthy snowbird. There is the beach, golf, dining and the arts. What's not to like as long as you can afford it. But for the average working family those things don't mean a lot if they are always working to pay the cost of living there. Many of the natives and long time residents have left or are leaving as they can no longer deal with what Naples has become or can afford to live there any longer. We left and have no regrets what so ever. While Naples will always have a piece of my heart it's not for me any longer. I miss what Naples use to be not what it's become.

Owned 2 homes in Naples, FL 1990/2014. Lived there full time 2001/2014. Got out just in time. Moved to Western North Carolina. Why? Naples became to expensive, to crowded, change in demographics, your at the end of the State (400 miles to the Georgia border). The traffic is bad in the summer and awful during winter season. I miss the weather, beach, certain restaurants, and people watching on Fifth Ave. on a Saturday night. Made huge $$$$ on our Real Estate and were lucky to make some good coin when we lived there. Florida has changed forever. It is being paved over by concrete and construction to make the rich richer. Sad but true. State Parks prevent high rise condos and apartments from being built on beaches. Buildings on beaches cause loss of natural protection barriers that causes floods, loss of beaches, property values, and less tourism. Support Conservation of Parks to save the old Florida.

It was like, "Hm, I wonder if they would look down on me if I do my own housework? People taking a walk looked like they just got back from the golf club. We have vacationed in Naples for 20 years and have seen it get obscenely worse (in ALL ways) since the pandemic and its accompanying influx of yankees. I am a serious amateur golfer and have had the fortune to play at quite a few Private (not semi-private) clubs there over the years. This spring while down there, I was told what the new initiation is at one of my favorite courses - and it is now for me unthinkable. The members told me that the demand became so great during the pandemic that the clubs had to materially raise the initiation & dues to slow the application pace. Today there are very nice home developments with an excellent golf club where the home cost is tolerable but that the club cost basically keeps you from being able to play the course right in your backyard - or there is a waiting list keeping you from joining - so the house becomes a dead deal. So current owners are beginning to see trouble in selling due to this mismatch. Things in Naples are numerically VERY out of whack right now. The peak of that market has been met. Naples needs a US recession and an increased death rate to bring back some normalcy.

Not many young people are going to pay $$$$ to play golf in 90 degree weather in humid areas. and most are not impressed with 70 and overs in ostentatious cars swaying all over the roads. I have never seen more 75-80 yr olds in Corvettes, funny. great pensions and hey SS checks pick up half the car payment. And they are rude to workers always rolling eyes, I'm from Manhattan, I never knew Michigan, Chicago people were so uncultured.

I like Naples but is there anything that you can do there that you can't in any other nice part of Florida? East coast has professional sports and newer high rises not subject to erosion. I like GL homes but many are over 55 or in the middle of nowhere. If you go east on Corkscrew there is nothing there and only congestion going west. When hurricane comes where do you get gas or food? They advertise Ave Maria but that's even worse. Seems like the city planners could have done a better job with the Naples area instead of only catering to the Vanderbilts.

How about the lack of things to do? The zoo is a joke, there seems to only be shopping and dining both of which you better be rich to do, there's zero culture or nightlife, social suicide if you're under 50 and you can't even enjoy the beaches as they're all built up with mega mansions and public beach access is limited with pay by the hour parking! Worked there for 2 yrs, glad I don't have to go back.

You are spot on about the 10 hour emergency room wait times. I’m a nurse and worked for NCH for 7 years and patients would come to the floor stating they had been in the ED for over 20 hours. And yes, in the off season we would always close floors until the next season and then they would frantically be hiring travel and seasonal nurses who made more than twice what staff nurses make, however they are unbenifited. It’s just how it is with the massive population change every 6 months. I’m now at Lee Health and it is so much better.

Just sold our home there this month after moving back for 5 years. Been coming to and living in SW Florida fornthe better part of 40 years. It is, simply put, ruined. Infrastructure is broken. They keep building and building with no real solution to traffic. 45 min to 1 hour each way every day for a 15 mile drive. It was never like that until 3 years ago. Immokalee road is beyond dangerous. I lived in Miami for 2 years and this is much worse. I am a healthcare worker who does very well on a national pay scale range. Difficult to afford living. Move elsewhere and live like a king. Job opportunities are poor for someone like me who can get a job anywhere. Pay simply has not kept up with other areas in the country with similar standards of living. The real reason to live there is the ocean. Just try getting there and if you have a boat figure on 3 hours wasted on getting there and going home. Naples, compared to even 5 years ago, is truly paradise lost. I won't even go into skyrocketing taxes, HOA, and homeowners insurance. The attitudes of folks from rich to poor have taken a huge plunge as well. Basically everything she says is spot on. Would not recommend moving there unless you are very wealthy. Which poses another problem. Who is going to take care of all these rich folk in this area that is a service driven industry when all the service workers can't afford to live there including high-paid medical workers ? Seriously take that into consideration before even remotely thinking about living there.

Wow, this was original! I have never heard the scandal about health care in this detail. If you are having heart attacks and need a cardiologist, not much can be done about that with economic strategy. You need to live in a place that has enough of those, and the video makes that clear. What about emergency care? Do they have drive-up 24 hour centers like the rest of the country? If you just need a mammogram or prostate check, and it can be anytime within reason, does the concierge bump you from that? Scarcity is the definition of economics, and it sounds like the doctors there have taken matters into their own hands. The health insurance companies could mitigate the issue, by just charging more for coverage in various locations, and paying higher fees to match what the doctors get in a certain locality. Medicaid Florida would have to exact a huge tax on Naples, to then turn around and give that money to any doctor serving one of its patients. It's all just supply and demand. if you don't want people to hit the black market, you have to make a more natural market exist.

If you’re in the service industry, you’ll never make it out of the trailer park you live in because that’s all you can afford. And, lose your job, you’re homeless, holding up signs on the side of 95 interstate. If you don’t believe me, stop and talk to some of the homeless that hold up signs I work for food. They will tell you they were waitresses, waiters, dishwashers, worked in the service industry. Make sure you give them a $20 bill for their time.
