The real SAVING PVT RYAN bridge battle WARGAME AAR.

It's the climactic scene from Saving Private Ryan - but why does the terrain look different than the movie? It's because we're gaming the historical battle that scene is based on - the battle of La Fière Bridge! American Paratroopers in the dark try to assault the defending Germans and drive them off.
Join us as Mark's Game Room welcomes expert model railroad builder Berni Kempinski who graciously brought his incredible terrain board that models the real terrain on the battlefield. If you were an inch tall, you'd know what it was like to be there.

The production of wargame videos is intense. I can barely manage one a quarter. This is epic.

Bernie's terrain skills are fantastic! You can tell he is a model railroader!

It looks amazing - though sometimes the glued-down density of impressive terrain can ironically work against smooth game play, as we probably witnessed once or twice in the video. (How do I push those figures through those woods?) That said, the table looked great and the production values are extremely high. (these videos also got me to order Mr Lambshead's book.

Great video and great game. It plays quick and would be an ideal convention “have a go game” 👍

I came across some of your videos when looking at videos about the Band of Brothers and thought they were great. I got into Bolt action Wargaming recently when I set up my RU-vid channel about making 28mm terrain, but I’m not familiar with this game variant using that you’re playing, I’ve only seen Bolt Action game rules and they use dice not playing cards. Happy to subscribe though, love the banter😉

They are playing " one hour skirmish wargame " It doesn't use dice either

I'm sitting down to watch this now, very cool. If you got Berni or somebody like him in again I'd love some deeper insights into terrain building from them. You've got a lot of cool batrep videos so I assume you're putting in a fair bit of work to get good growth early but even if you chucked it on a b channel I don't think I'd be alone in finding it invaluable.

Mark, got to say that was great to watch and loved the terrain, fgiures and the rules, couldn't quite make them out. What are they?

My second comment is a question. It's interesting that you used two distinct squads per side, each with its own draw deck. How well does expanding OHSWG work overall, and what is the largest game you think the rules could smoothly handle?

Whatever the reason to create this spinoff channel, at least its a good way to give more gamers more screen time.

Mark, Great videos and games. Couple questions: What is your house rule for overwatch? According to the rules, shouldn't you do the morale check before checking for casualties or are you using a house rule. Thanks for introducing me to these rules. Great for convention use.
@BernardK
@BernardK Год назад
We do the morale checks after casualties to speed up the game. Overwatch takes an action to put on. It comes off when the unit fires.
@MarksGameRoom
@MarksGameRoom Год назад
Yep...Bernard is correct. Morale checks after casualties helps prevent a side from dying to a man before they break!! Overwatch allows a figure to fire when an oppenent moves within line of sight. The overwatch is removed after one shot.

If it's 82nd Airborne not 101st why didn't the movie reflect that?

Good question! A one point in the movie Capt Miller and his men come across some casualties from the 82nd.
