That’s what I thought when I first saw the whole pirate king thing. But it was revealed pretty early on (louge town arc) that roger died 22 years ago. So well I only thought that for like the first few arcs.

Roger started his pirate journey about 50 years ago but everything we’ve actually seen with him was in his last year or so of sailing

He started his pirate career around 50years in the one piece world. Brook even stated that there was a rookie back then named Roger.

Yeah I didn’t skip any episodes but I either glossed over whenever they mention the actual time difference or forgot at some point and I remember being surprised that it was so recent. I agree it gives the vibe of about 50 years.

All of the flashbacks in references to things in the past in this series Make it sound like it happen so long ago. I'm actually not surprised Roger only died that long ago. I literally thought those flashbacks with Luffy as a kid with shanks meant that shanks was dead. And then he shows up looking exactly like how he did in those flashbacks

Maybe they don't mention it in the later seasons as much
