The areas you drove through when you first hit town just happen to be in a low socio economic area. You didn't go down the main street or drive through the college. You absolutely missed the best part and didn't see Flannery O'connor's home or the renovated Governors Mansion. You are also full of crap about people hating each other. There is racial strife anywhere, but Milledgeville by and large has a very harmonious racial relationship. The mayor ,who is doing an outstanding job, is black. I live in a nice neighborhood. I have 3 black neighbors and a Korean neighbor. We are all friends and get along very well. If you want to find out what a town is really like, you need to make sure your drive is more representative of the community. If you had gotten out of your vehicle and walked around, people would have spoken to you and been very friendly. This video is a very unfair representation of Milledgeville. I have seen neighborhoods in Atlanta and other cities to the north of Atlanta that were pretty bad. Any town is going to have some run down neighborhoods. You need to do a better job of representing towns you go through in a more objective manner.
This is my home town I live here and I don't appreciate your reasoning for why our town is not in good shape. This is the result of previous Gov. Perdue 's mission to destroy what Senator Culver Kid did for our city and county. The mental health industry Central State Hospital. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU TALK ABOUT WHERE SOMEONE LIVES.
I also live in Milledgeville GA where my grandfather Dr. Jose Delgado was president of Central State asylum. He got away with genocide and used the patients in this exact asylum as lab rats for trauma based mind control programming from project paperclip 🖇️. Over 20,000 people DIED on the grounds!!! Why would you be proud of a place known for torturing and killing people who were labeled as mentally ill? 😳🤯

I agree with YOU Willie !!! It IS a beautiful city - not an asphalt jungle that's developing fast !!! Milledgeville IS developing - just not like a BIG metropolitan area !!! Am SO glad of that !!!

You just didn't go to any of the pretty places in this city. There are plenty of them. Also, not all cities in the "deep south" are bad. The areas which don't have all the cities that are "growing fast" in them have much nicer people in them than in the bigger cities of the south. Sure there's crimes in the south but there are more crimes, and, more severe ones, in the bigger cities, everywhere. . There's high crime rates (in some places,) murder rates, and, "crappy people" ALL OVER (just emphasizing, here) the USA and the whole world - not just in the "deep south."
I live here and we do get along. I'm sorry but you don't speak for Milledgeville. Does everyone get along and all the time? No. That wouldn't be natural. Towns look like this because industry is gone. There are no jobs. Don't judge us based on you getting lost for 30 minutes.

I literally drove the town north to south.. we drive all over America if you dont see a problem here than your in need of a massive road trip to greener pastures. Rather you see it or not, your towns in bad shape. Just get down the road to madison and see a better place

I love Milledgeville. I lived there in the early 80's. It was booming with factory work. Top paying jobs. The jobs packed up and went elsewhere. Milledgeville full of good people. He got his facts wrong.
They obviously didn't do any research before talking about M'ville. They passed by several landmarks. No major industries that left??? Central State Hospital. Rheem. Volt. Georgia Power, tho technically not in our county. GCSU. GMC. Shaw. JP Stevens. Passed by Andalusia. Dr. Bodie' s home. Bone Cemetery. Memory Hill. Countless landmarks you ignored. You can't access the heart and history of a town by driving through it. Research. Take a tour. Our city needs work but you said several things that were not based on fact. Video was is essentially a drive through. The creator avoided the nice parts of the city and drew conclusions that are not grounded in fact about the people being unfriendly and rude. I would not waste time viewing this. Come to Milledgeville and see for yourself. The people are very friendly. Lots of history here. Georgia's antebellum capital.
I'm Milledgeville born and raised!! Used to buy dime bags of weed from Melvin when I was in 9th grade at Baldwin High and Melvin was prob a junior or senior..this was around 95,96...Nappy Roots was some of the best early country rap or southern rap category.Goodie Mob is my favorite though!! Dont come down 441 in front of the mall on Fridays from 2pm to about 5pm wreck after wreck!! The ville is over populated now!! Running to town sucks,most folks just hit the dollar generals on the outskirts.small towns are no longer small!!

Milledgeville is a real $#ITHOLE!! I was born there, and lived there from 1979 to 2011... Moving up to the north Georgia mountains to raise my children was THE BEST decision that I EVER made! (Edit: My mom used to take me through that little train bridge/trestle (at 21:50) when I was a little bitty boy, and she'd blow her loud car horn all the way through it so that I would laugh at the echo! 😂👍🏻)

Does anyone remember a bar in downtown Milledgeville back in the mid 1970’s called the Cellar? Was a college bar I guess and you had to come off the side walk down a steep wide staircase to get in.Oh and there was a bar called Cowboy Bills on Hwy 441 back then that was hot.Also the Holiday Inn Lounge on 441 hwy was a busy place then.Oh well.

That was what it was known for, for me as a kid who didn't know anything. I have a family member that went to college in Milledgeville later on in life, and I can believe it's a nice place to stay.
But its not just that, all towns down there are in complete darkness now. They also lost so many to covid a rate 4x higher than everyone else. Theres problems down there and most people won’t admit the cause
Yall rode in the worst parts of town. Milledgeville is far from bad shape. It is my hometown so I know. Yes, it has went through changes over the years but it's far from a poverty stricken city.

Your video was very selective and biased. I attended Georgia Military College, which you drove past, from 1989-1991 and will be returning this weekend for Alumni Weekend. It has a lovely historic downtown and great people. When I was in school there Central State Hospital was still in operation, albeit at a reduced capacity from what had been the case in the 1960s, and there were five prisons as well as the two colleges. As for as the industry that left, much of that was related to the state and when those facilities closed the good-paying state jobs departed with them. As has been noted, there were also some factories. But if one is selective about riding around the worst parts of any town there will be bad parts.
You should visit Central State Hospital, largest former Insane Asylum and Sanitarium in the world. Beautiful old buildings, lots of history in a sad state of disrepair, and now Kemp wants them gone 😢
Milledgeville is a shithole yes, but it has some interesting history and genuinely beautiful, charming places. not to mention yall happened to drive through after a moderately recent tornado hit some places in town that already didnt see a lot of love. LOL

I've only ever watched one other of your videos: "the hood" in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL. I watched you drive the same 3 to 4 blocks right off of 103rd St. for about 15 minutes before I got bored and quit. You passed the same apartment building 3 times, and you kept saying, "actually, this is pretty nice!" It's not nice, it's 3 very run-of-the-mill working- class streets in a slightly larger neighborhood. But I guess since you kept talking about how you were in the "hood," you expected to see O Block, or something. I swear, watching you drive those three streets over and over, I felt like I was riding with mee-maw when she started sundowning on the way to the Piccadilly Cafeteria.

This town looks like a lot of areas around Birmingham to me. Kinda crazy how similar places look in other states. And yet so many Americans see others outside their general locations as totally different from them. We're all similar. (but don't tell Texas....they're all on their own!) 🤭🤫🤣

Lol it's almost like you were intentionally looking for the poor area where I grew up, you guys didn't go downtown area where the city has all it's charm and beauty. All of milledgeville is not this shabby. BUT some parts are somehow he found it lol deep into the city, the ghettos in milledgeville you literally have to go looking for in my option it's not the first thing you see when driving into milledgeville on 441.
Atlanta and above, those parts of Georgia are probably way different than Alabama. Atlanta is probably the least City like Alabama except the "run down" parts

Milledgeville was the state capital of Georgia during the civil war. Francis Gary Powers went to Georgia Military College. Carl Vinson member of the House of Representatives for over fifty years also was from Milledgeville.
