Hey guys and girls!!!! On Weekend Wankshop 139, Uncle Ben is gonna do you a solid favor and flush that old school Megadeth Rust in Peace tab book down the toilet. That book is FAKE NEWS, and i'm gonna trump it and show you all the REAL way to play the intro to Take No Prisoners!
I have seen SO MANY bad lessons and tabs for this one. After listening extensively to the isolated guitar and bass tracks, plus consulting a TON of live videos of Dave Mustaine playing the intro live, i've come up with the legit way to play this thrash classic. I'll even prove it, too, so be sure to watch towards the end of the video!

That tab book has always been absolute shite. I remember as a kid trying to use it for Holy Wars and Take No Prisoners and man they just felt absolutely wrong. I have no idea how that was allowed to be printed.

I actually have that tab book and tried using it to learn Take No Prisoners several years ago. I gave up because it just wasn't sounding right or flowing well. Your (correct) way is so much easier to do. Thank you!

I had that tab book when I was youngster. I would get so frustrated because I couldn't get the riffs to sound right even though I was following the tab as well as I could. I thought for the longest time I just couldn't play the songs, and didn't think that the tab was wrong even though my ears told me it was wrong.

Haha I bought that same tab book 14 years ago and always thought it didn't make sense and sound right. Even when the notes sounded right the fingerings was impossible. Heard later a lot of those tabs were made by computers.

Thanks Uncle Ben! These have been a nice switch up to the WWS format. My request isn't a Big 4 band but I think there's enough youtube vids for you to break it down: Animals As Leaders - CAFO - The tapping lick at around 2:30. Tosin put up a vid on the ascending part but the descending-ish part is hard (for a newb nephew like me) to decode. Most tabs I've seen don't line up at all with the vids I find on youtube. I'm sure you'll also have some great technique advice as well. You would be doing Odin's work to add this to the anals of the internet.

Let's go crazy and go over the whole Rust in Peace album. Jk (I'm not). But riffs, I'd love to see In My Darkest Hour. The last riff with all the crazy movements. I can't really figure out how Dave plays it live (while singing) And the song has lots of live videos out there. PS - Still waiting for the Tornado of Souls Solo Lesson, Uncle Ben.

all the tabs for 22 acacia avenue by iron maiden are wrong, so try that one. Also tricky since Adrian actually plays it different from dave

Thank you, Uncle Ben! Can you PLEASE figure out either the bridge riff in Damage Inc., or the bridge riff in The Frayed Ends of Sanity for us?? Both of those classic riffs have been tripping me up for years, and never seem to be tabbed right. Whenever I reach those parts of the songs I sound like my stepdad on Christmas.

Igor Brolshanski- could you give us the goods on the intro portions of Good Mourning/Black Friday? I have never seen a correct tab of what Dave is actually playing. They always have a bunch of pedaling off the high open E but that doesn't seem like Dave's style at all. Plus the ascending arpeggio is always wrong, I always see him in second position but the tabs have him up in the 7s and 9s. Check it out

Beckoning Oblivion I learned the rhythm section of Five Magics from the tab book, I thought it sounded pretty close but there's so much going on in that song that it's hard to tell. When Dave starts singing "Give me alchemy" I'm headbanging so hard I feel like it's on a swivel!

it has to be said the solo in Take No Prisoners is probably one of the best solos Friedman wrote, but very underrated.

Ben I got a tough one for you: Poison Was The Cure by Megadeth. The fast riff that starts around 1 minute after the intro! Over the year I learned it a bit in my own way and it sounds decent enough .... but I know it's not accurate. (I have the same tab book BTW :)

Yo dude! In case you don't want to wait for Ben's take on it, I'd suggest searching for abysslord's megadeth tabs. I've used that single site all the years I've been listening and learning Megadeth songs and I think his tabs are pretty much spot on. I checked this song and the tabs are the same as what Ben is playing here. Good luck on Poison was the Cure :D

Ben I beg you. I'm struggling to find a decent trnscription of "THE RIFF" of the dark eternal night by dream theater. I Know you know what riff i'm talking about, the one just before the guitar solo. That Crazy absurd thing. No one agrees on what petrucci plays there.

Hehe, those tab books, many times they weren't even transcribed by the actual band -- MegaDave probably needed some extra money and licensed it to someone else who transcribed it and subsequently got a lot wrong. Happens more than you would think...Yet I'm betting that is still called the "official tab book" since they have the "official license" from Mustaine.
