The thing is as long as there are multiple competitors in the gaming system arena, they will all be paranoiac about the competition selling a system with physical support. Because they all know most people prefer physical over digital and if they corner themselves with only digital systems but the competition doesn't, they are screwed.
I think Nintendo will always do physical type stuff because they know how crazy people are about their stuff. So sony would definitely have to stay in the game if that happens l. Meanwhile Microsoft just doesn't care. They have unlimited wealth already they are in it just to say they still are doing something
DA REALEST is back!!! I'm with you on going the emulation route, especially for the higher dollar games that I don't want to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on. Are there any emulation software that you recommend from personal experience? I pretty much play and collect for everything.
Ppsspp for psp, duckstation for PS1, retroarch for like all the cartridge stuff, dolphin emulator for gamecube. PCSX2 for ps2. For ps3 and up it better to just jailbreak those consoles because pc emulation can be unstable for some games.
if your house burns down or console eats disc physical copy gone... big plus on digital is you can bring anywhere with you and just log in to any console
Well said man! Once it goes all digital I probably won’t buy much current gen games. I’ll either just play what I have in my collection or continue to buy the older stuff.
Was wondering when Da Realest would return! I think it’s gonna take that one major franchise title, whether it’s a cod or a madden for example to come out and say straight up “we’re going digital only sorry but it’s time”, that I’m going to feel like yep it may be over. There will be backlash, maybe a light online boycott but once the sales remain quite good the domino effect will start for the rest and we all will just adjust to it. Mainstream releases for physical games had its time and it was fun. We all have many memories of going to pick up that certain game. Midnight launches for example were amazing. Yeah looking back they were kind of silly but seriously do they even exist anymore? Like i mean in recent years because I legit have no clue! There’s a video of some friends going to pick up Halo 3 at launch and it should be preserved at the library of congress. It seemed like peak gaming lol. It’s like going to the video rental store, newer generations won’t totally get it. I must finally add that I think physical will never actually end for the games market. Mainstream wise yup but there will always be limited editions and companies like the ones you mentioned (idk much about how they operate though. ✌️
Damn Ez gamers had a great point about consoles just saying f you to disc drives in a generation or two totally forgot about that. That’ll be depressing when that day comes 😢.
Yeah been a minute. Had a lot of stuff ive been busy with lately. But yeah noone can really time the market but as long as there is a demand there will be someone to fill in the demand. Right now we live in times where people are trying too hard to spread fear and hype sheit up for their own monetary gains and everyone is playing into it. Something will always rise from the ashes when there is noone to fill the void.
We may be able to last one more generation if the next console drops in the next 4 years. Microsoft will most likely go all digital. Sony and Nintendo will probably continue especially nintendo because they know that people go crazy over their so called limited stuff and they tend to like to bait people via reprinting and pretending to have limited release games. With that said sony would probably follow suit. Japanese tend to like their collectibles and they have a strong 2nd hand market to support it. Hence why i believe LRG will take over the western front even if sony of America decides to go all digital. Kinda like what working designs was doing in the 90s to bring japanese stuff here. History tends to repeat itself.
As much as i hate to say it but if they stop printing out physicals, brick and mortar stores will stop supplying games like gamestop so the only way to get physical games would be online and most likely only would be through LRG for a few select games which will probably be a pain in the ass knowing they can barely handle their current volume lol. Other printing companies have already folded in todays climate so theres no chance for new competition going against LRG unless they really drop the ball hard
I agree with a lot of your perspectives as a big game collector myself! I do prefer to play the emulation version even if I own the physical copy. I like playing on the Retroid and other handhelds. Still always nice to have the physical and playing on the real thing aswell. Good video! Always gotta have my jrpgs in physical for but sports games should have been digital like a decade ago.
For along time I’ve already accepted Digital, I went through a consolidation of my collection to downsize it. I just turned my PS4 Pro into an emulation system. I think your right G, with Limited run they ain’t stopping, I think PS4/PS5/Switch will continue to press up copies for a while. I think PS6 will have to create a Handheld system that can play offline. I think the future of gaming is what Nintendo did is having the ability to play anywhere and that would mean all digital, because who wants to carry so many things around, it’s the same thing that happen to movies and Music. Gaming unfortunately have to go this direction.
I've seen what the jailbreoken ps4s do and they are a beast of a machine! When they get the ps5 to fully work especially with the ai upscaling they want to implement it will be the definitive emulation machine.
The thing that gets me is that if limited run/companies continue to make games and the big console makers don’t make disc drives anymore…how would that work? Good to see you back!
That's where ports come into play. The next gen of games will not look too far off from what we already have now. So i think they will find a way to keep it alive by still releasing ps5 version's of a game when ps6 comes out.
have a feeling Nintendo and maybe Sony is in for one more gen. If not ima stock up on ps5 slim disc drives (yes i know it needs the server to patch, hopefully someone down the line will figure out a backdoor method) and stop collecting newer stuff

the only thing from keeping my from embracing digital is how quick that can just delist something. like when rockstar released the gta trilogy they removed the OG's from the digital stores unless you already owned them your only options was gta wack edition. then its licensing, images or music being patched out is also kind of annoying. on the PC side digital has been a thing for almost 20 years with Steam but its newer for consoles. once these stores start closing games will be lost.
Not only that but if you refund too many day 1 bugged ass games or troll too much online, your account can get banned and you will lose your entire digital library (fault or sometimes not even your fault)
Yeah thats the main gripe for most, but emulation solves that issue and it seems like the more advanced these consoles are becoming the more they are like a pc. So cracking them are becoming easier now. The ps5 was like the quickest console to be cracked to play bootlegs lol
Yep emulation will probably be the next big thing since these new gen kids dont give af about old retro physical games when their steam decks can run almost everything up to switch. People are even running switch games on their phones 😂
