Great video and great advice! Subscribed. I worked as a sound engineer for a while in a proper studio. I worked incredibly hard. I was an expert at what I do (heavy metal), but the reality is that you never can make much money from it. I had industry people helping me too. Never again! Musicians are the most fickle and flaky people out there. They want the impossible, often refuse to pay, constant changes and edits, never satisfied and delusional. Not to mention, the alcohol and drugs that go with it and the strung out clients. If you want some good advice, forget sound engineering as a career. By all means mix and produce your own music. Enjoy the art. Have it as a second job, a hobby, but forget it as a career. You could make a living from it in the past, but those days have long gone with the advent of technology and home computers. You strike me as a deeply thoughtful, intelligent, sensitive and introverted guy. You also look very young. There are people in the music industry who are corrupted and will do anything to bring you down. Take care. You will thank me later!
This is very solid advice as well, and I appreciate you taking the time to write all this out 🙏 I can see already with the few clients I’ve had that they can be flaky or unreliable. It seems like a pain haha. That being said however, I’ve been really enjoying the process and just as a side gig, it’s good enough for me at the moment. Working with music was always a goal and I’m very fortunate to have these opportunities. Even if that comes with some of the downsides.
In my case, I was fortunate for someone to stumble across my videos and they contacted me via Instagram. I’ve had quite a few from this alone, but if you’re not putting yourself out there then unfortunately I wouldn’t have much of an answer. It helps to have someone you have worked with in the past. Connections are key!
