Not the stoniest mage by a long shot, simply put he has lucky equipment and an OP theurgy. His theurgy has by so far the highest base power of any theurgy, but his magic stat is very low. This is only possible after getting 99 Magic in him using cards, Laevaetinn, Agni Bracers and Shift Amp shoes. The best mage in regular gameplay is Yukari / Mitsuru as Yukari has highest magic but Mitsuru has better moves.
@@Megidolaon999for the theurgy specifically, it’ll one shot reaper even if you have like 50 Magic with Max Strength bc theurgy damage is calculated differently
Upon seeing the title, I thought: “If this is a joke, it ain’t funny.” After watching: “Junpei and Akihiko are the best magic users even though physical” If only Mitsuru’s second theurgy was Ice
Kind of disappointing to see magic lagging behind like this, despite magic still being ultimately viable. Without P5R level technicals for elemental weakness exploitation, magic not being able to crit is just a pointless limitation. I know Technicals benefited Phys too, but you get what I mean. Phys nukes bosses AND random encounters especially, with Therugies piercing resistances. Magic does the same thing with less pizzazz and no crits. People thought the SEES members ate Akihiko's debuffing lunch to make themselves stronger, but it was really Mitsuru's role as a nuker that got gobbled up. RIP her second theurgy, too.
Mitsuru was always bad at her job, though. Mind Charge alone makes her worse than Yukari for magic damage in FES, so she's never really served much of a purpose in any game. P3R is also just an especially phys-focused game, probably the most the series has ever been and extremely arbitrarily too, so there's just no real reason to ever use her or other magic users for that matter.
@@tuvieeclipshaha if we exclude those DLC driver passives and MM builds, Junpei can actually do more damage than MC in both phys and magic. He's truly the man lol
I ran the math, and of those who can use magic, Mitsuru is the second worst burst magic attacker. Not only do both Junpei and Akihiko beat her out, but both Koromaru and Ken also beat her out. Yukari isn't even trailing far behind, and she would beat Mitsuru out if she had access to Shift Amp. Why in the french hell did Atlus do Mitsuru this dirty when being a burst magic attacker is part of her appeal as a combatant?
Wow I forgot there was a shift boost accessory. So Mitsuru not only can she not keep up because of her base modifiers, but she's also locked out of Shift Amp boots. Rip Yukari and Mitsuru. Can Ken also do it then? Gae Bolg gives Ken Light Boost and he can also use Shift Amp boots. Koromaru also has the Star Dog Suit which gives him Shift Amp and the Tyrant's Knife gives him Dark Boost. But this means straight up best party is probably Junpei, Koro, Akihiko. Just get items for Matarukaja. Aigis's theurgy hits harder than Akihiko, but Akihiko's theurgy charges way faster than Aigis. EDIT: Tested with Ken with Gae Bolg, Pendant of Unity, and Shift Amp boots and he does about 5.8k. Sadge. Difference seems to be Theurgy base + modifiers from Amp/Boost/Magic ability/Shift Amp + Boost and Personality. So that means Koro will hit about the same.
I will always stick with Mitsuru since she's simply my favorite character (and aside from merciless its not like you NEED to be optimized) but geez they really screwed her over huh? She might honestly be the 'worst' character in terms of max potential. Like, for what reason is her 2nd Therugy Almighty? She has no affiliation with it anywhere else, Almighty already pierces, and you have far better sources for Debiliate.... In general they really screwed over Magic overall and I have no idea why. Maybe we could have gotten something like Soul Hackers 2 Magic Crit Ability to at least try and level them out?.
idk why yall are acting like characters with maxed stats and a shuffle time card that is completely random is at all indicative of actual realistic viability
@@tuvieeclipsa party of akihiko junpei and koromaru? nah. junpei and koromaru, sure, but if you have akihiko as the third slot in this party you don’t have attack buffs after turn 3, which is a problem for something like the final boss that can’t be killed in 3 turns, and akihiko being completely reliant on buff amp. and akihiko doesn’t even outdamage mitsuru WITH buff amp. you have no way of consistently getting akihiko concentrate without using yukari meaning his theurgy gets far outdamaged by mitsuru. even his gods hand gets outdamaged by diamond dust when he doesn’t crit.
I was wondering when playing the game casually how strong Junpei's second theurgy must be to still do decent damage despite Junpei having bad magic, turns out the answer is very lol. This is why he's da man
