Burton Richardson is not really correct though Bruce Lee already studied fencing and won a boxing tournament in China before he got to America. Bruce did start including more kickboxing judo and Catch wrestling after he realized what he knew was limited

Paul De Thouars school where Danny Inosanto trained with him was ten minutes from my house so I would go over there and watch. At the time I was training grappling with Gene Lebell and Gokor and had wrestled in high school and college and done years of Judo. Paul De Thouars told me what do you need grappling for. LOL

because is not up to you, you can come across one who is capable of taking you down specially if stumble down alone with him. moreover, you can give him trouble with striking, that wouldn't probably stop him from taking you down. he probably one who can endure a fight.and if you ain't ready for such grabbing, you probably find yourself waking up from a dream or probably with a broken arm ?

Actually, Bruce Lee went from Seattle to Oakland, and then to LA, and Lee first came up with the term JKD with James Lee, a local martial artist and head of the Oakland branch.

If I go to a JKD channel then people say JKD is the answer for everything. They are so close minded. You must learn to defense against grappling with a BJJ fighter. I'm glad to see more open minded JKD fighters.

JKD is indeed the answer to everything. JKD is about adapting and evolving. Evolution is a process, NOT a destination! If they don’t know how to defend against grappling, then it’s not true JKD. Then it just means they’re stuck in old traditions which was not what Lee wanted. BJJ is a part of fighting now, whether people like it or not.

@@daxmafesino he didn’t. John little disproves this. I have an interview with John on my channel talking about Gene Labelle not being honest about training with Bruce. It wasn’t an uncommon thing for Gene to do. He lied about the seagal thing also. Why would Bruce need to train with 4 to 5 different judo guys? It didn’t make sense. It’s like the lie about Leo fong showing Bruce boxing when he was already boxing back in Hong Kong. People would have you believe Bruce trained with everyone and anything but it’s simply not true. A lot of what he did was self taught.

@@axelstone3131 yeah I disagree, John didn’t train with these guys; If Gene was lying why didn’t his family sue him like they tried to do with Inosanto? Who speaking of Inosanto, Larry Hartsell and Hayward Nishioka all say he trained under Gene. Why would they lie? Gene is even in a documentary with Bruce Lees family saying he trained under them which his family would have in no way approved of. Also why did John little wait til after Genes death to say something hmmm

See this sooooooo much in Taijiquan communities!! So much bias, prejudice and cynicism toward other arts that would crush them in a reality based conflict situation.

according to Jesse glover and This from the book: Bruce Lee, the life and legend. The five ways of attacks Bruce took from a guy name fred sato a black belt jesse glover introduced Bruce to and became friends. (page 8) again from Jesse glover. the term jeet kune do came from a guy in settle who said they called their art 'intercepting fist'. and before he went to California, Bruce was toying with the idea. (page 12) Jesse also mentioned that the only reason Bruce modified his style was because he was always looking for ways to catch up with his seniors back in Hong Kong. he would had kept changing stuff. with the above story, now think for a second and add the story with Bruce fighting wong jack man and from this fight and as the story goes, is why he created jeet kune do. do we see how stories changes. can't believe everything we read. not to mention that, by this young age bruce was already creating idas to form his own.

Bruce Lee was a boxing school bey champion. He was involved with boxing at a youth age and he was also a street fighter as a youth which is "full-contact".

If you study some of Bruce’s fighting methods like Wing Chun, Jun Fan Gung Fu, Jeet Kune Do or any of the other skills he studied like Boxing, sword fencing, judo, wrestling/grappling etc... or read some of the 2,500 books he read on philosophy, psychology, bodybuilding, and practically every form of fighting ever printed, then you will have a better understanding of the real Bruce Lee. Watch some of the many RU-vid videos of those who witnessed Bruce in real fight situations and you will discover that he was a street fighter, martial artist, and even Hong Kong’s high school boxing champion by the age of 18! After that he came to the U.S. for 12 years then went back to Hong Kong to make films and he was challenged all of the time and never lost once! I get so angry when people have a public platform and talk about Bruce Lee with absolutely no actual knowledge of the man at all! Check this link out if you want to see some of the people who knew the real Bruce Lee. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_X0rarJvkRgY.html

Gene LeBell taught Bruce Lee grappling.
@davidtice4972
@davidtice4972 3 года назад
Larry Hartsell said in one of his books, thank God Gene LeBell taught Bruce Lee grappling. Larry Hartsell was an original Bruce Lee student, and considered the ‘JKD grappling expert’ of all Lee's students. Larry states that Bruce Lee had 33 grappling techniques in ‘his Jeet Kune Do arsenal’, by the time of his passing that he learned mostly from Gene LeBell the Toughest Man alive. It’s also known that Bruce took lessons and traded knowledge with judo/jiujitsu/grappling experts and friends like Hayward Nishioka, and Wally Jay among other Judo experts. In Bruce Lee’s book “Tao Of Jeet Kune Do”, you can see his personalized drawings and commentaries about grappling/judo/jiujitsu techniques as well. I recommend this book as a prerequisite reading for any serious martial artist. In Bruce Lee’s time it should be stated that stand up fighting was the emphasis of the day, which is why he also greatly admired boxing and the boxers of his day(Muhammad Ali the most). But as his students have always noted about him also as well, Bruce Lee was always looking to improve, modify, evolve his own personal Jeet Kune Do. His martial art, philosophy, was never meant to be static. It was a living and breathing thing. He was less interested in the nationality of an art, or where it came from(though he studied the history of martial arts extensively(he had over 2,000 books in his own personal library),but rather wanted to test a martial art(system/style)for it’s practical functionality in real life situations. As he was noted to say his students,”Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is specifically your own.” So as we can apply this to the martial arts, so too this philosophical principle, can be applied to our ever day as well. It is a testament to Bruce Lee’s enduring contribution to the martial arts, and dare I say, to humanity. I for one, as a martial artist, and a living and breathing human being, am grateful I discovered him at a young age, and still find his words resonate in real life application.

Tell the truth the real reason why he created his way of fighting is bc he was getting beat in fighting by using his traditional methods. Bruce Lee was good. But still an actor that could get beat on any giving sunday. The industry tries to paint this unrealistic image of him. A matter of fact a lot of instructors that actually worked with bruce and told the truth abt him interviews was shut down or talked against.

Bruce may not have had enough experience in wing Chun, as well. Had he trained in it longer and became seasoned, Bruce may have been better for it, then creat his own " approach" to fighting.

@@williamallen2565 Ive seen them on RU-vid but im not even talking abt them. My father passed away but was a martial artist and a black panther from Ny who travel to train on the west cost a lot. However, most people really dont know what they are talking abt. Ive actually listen and saw tapes that had people actually spared with bruce lee and talking abt him. Trust me they are out there but it wont get pushed on social media. A lot of people dont know he actually fought and spared a lot and it didnt go nothing like the movies at all. I have to admit they didnt go into great detail but most was on a common ground; it wasnt bad talk abt him but nothing at all like the movies. Im from the 80s and 90s era before the Internet and as a kid i was fortunate to be around these old guys that really lived that life and had so much knowlege of the 60s and 70s. Again real sparing at that time was secretive and what happen in the gym or locations stayed there and just talked among each other and not the general population! Matches was held on roof tops, and vacant places. No where near like today. It was actually code and principle back then. Thats the only thing that saved Bruce lee from being exposed.
@phoenixj1299
@phoenixj1299 3 года назад
You are absolutely wrong. The reason why he created is because he felt that it's not enough for practical application (street fight) . Bruce Lee thought he would defeat Wong jack man easily but it took 3 minutes for Bruce to defeat him. So he thought there is a room for improvement even though he mastered wing chun.Bruce was undefeated. The last time he was defeated is when he was 13 in a street fight but again,he broke the arm of the other guy.

The real question you should be researching is why did Bruce close all his schools down before he died ,Eric Salinis is correct ,but in actual fact he only had 2 years training with Yip man and you can tell this by the way Bruce is 1 sided ,Bruce only had half of 1 side of the coin ,1/4 of 1 system basically and lets not even get into the fact Wing Chun Has 3 full systems ,Fushun ,Mainland and Hong Kong ,each takes 10 years to perfect but 1 system is not complete without the other 2 ,except Fushun ,Fushun is the complete system in 1 ,Mainland is derived and shortened as is Hong Kong from Fushun and then there is the modification to Hong Kong and that's another story :) and then there's the rubbish on you tube made up of bits but never complete and doesn't even work in real combat

@emmy lite just to let you in on a secret ,it takes any movement a minimum of 20,000 to go into muscle memory and triple that for deep body memory ,how many movements in your system ,,yes it takes 10 years full time to reach Masters level but add another 15 years to become SiFu ,in my system we have Foshun ,Mainland and Hong Kong ,all 3 systems take 8 years each to master ,if you are studying a system built up by many systems ,that's just a bitsa and takes no where near the same time ,all depends how good you want to get but i def can't see a practitioner that has trained for 5 years beating a master that has trained for 25 years ,that's just funny as all fuck and someone's in dreamland
