Kronii kept denying that she's been drinking beer, and insisted that it was just water. Later in the collab she talked about how nervous she is when she has to speak in JP, so she's been drinking beer to help her with that.

One of my German teachers said that it's well known among language teachers that a little alcohol does in fact make it easier to speak a foreign language you're not fully comfortable with. (She also told us that even so, we should *not* show up tipsy to our oral exams.)

I am listening and writing in english for years... And my speaking is not that bad, but when I have to do it in front of people, stress make me unable to say anything. So I can understand alcohol being helpful. You overthink less, you are more relax etc.

Alcohol often makes you think less and talk more which can be useful if nervous. Now that I think about it, most of the times I had long conversation in english there was some alcohol involved

I think quite a few of them under estimate how good their English actually is. Sure the grammar might not always be their, but the near clear pronunciation and the ease of being able to understand what they are trying to get across cannot be denied. Mad respect to Polka and the other JP girls for the hard work.

Basic spoken Japanese is actually surprisingly easy once you grasp the logic of it and learn some words. The difficulty of the language is definitely elsewhere. For JP members though, English is hard as hell because of near 0% immersion they get naturally, so their ears literally cannot distinguish the sounds, and their tongues can't twist properly. Not helped by Japanese having butchered versions of half he English vocabulary, so it's very hard for Japanese people to accept that their version of the word is often not even close to how it sounds in English. But Kronii has definitely improved. With the help of the power beer, she's nailing these conversations.

It pretty much does, grunts of affirmation are a very common thing when speaking Japanese. It's considered polite to nod and make noises of affirmation to indicate you're listening when someone is speaking. It can throw you off the first time it happens in Japan, since they'll do it almost anytime there's a pause in your speaking and it will distract you if you're not expecting it. On the flip side, once you get used to it and speak to English speakers you might find yourself doing it without thinking and driving them nuts XD

Well, I guess there's sparkling water that does come in a can. Of note is the "Liquid Death" brand which intentionally looks like a beer can, but is just water because it's funny. Also wow Kronii's voice is way higher pitched in Japanese than in English

I don't think it was much about her being shy/awkward, but that when you try to speak a foreign language, you usually overthink whatever you are trying to say, and having a bit of alcohol in your system helps with that.

As a bilingual, that actually absolutely helps when you know enough of a language to communicate but aren't fluent. In fact I once got so drunk I spent a whole night communicating with people who didnt share any language with me. Unfortunately I don't remember the details, being drunk and all.

i get the feeling even though I've never drank beer before, i discovered this trick 2 years ago. The night before my English oral exam I was rushing my homework and ended up getting 4 hours of sleep, the next day i could speak fluent English (most of the time i get nervous even though i can manage at least on a conversational level in writing)
