Korone and Okayu talk about putting 'San' at the end of people's names, and whether that feels too formal. This an an oldie, from an OkaKoro stream 3 years ago. Source: 【雑談】おかゆところねのスーパーおしゃべり【#おかころ 】 • 【雑談】おかゆところねのスーパーおしゃべり【...
I love that I instantly recognized Early Korone after starting the video. Sleepy eye tracking, timid voice, soft laughter. What a cutie. She's my oshi even now, but Early Korone has a distinct charm.
These old Korone clips are so precious, she sounds so quiet and little. You can really tell they both gained a lot of confidence since then. Also I love how you can tell an old Korone video just by how her model does that thing with her eyes half-closed, lol
Love seeing clips of old Korone! I love getting the occasional dose of her softer and shyer voice. And I've always wondered why Okayu calls her "Koro-san", I wouldn't say this answered it, but now I know how they feel about the name!
I just want to thank you for the absolut brilliant placement of the recommended videos at 3:13 For me Okayu is perfectly lined up... also thanks for the translation
Aaaah, early Korosan voice. So cute. I've always thought of 'Korosan' as an affectionate nickname, which is why I don't put a space between 'Koro' and 'san'. To set it apart from the formal form. There's other examples of this in Japanese, but I can't for the life of me recall any of them at the moment.
It's a respectful nickname, and it makes a great pun-563-so it fits Ko'one like a tailored glove. One of her background images even shows off the pun by having it be a sports jersey name and number. And you mean hyphen, not space.
Man this was when Korone-chan was soft spoken and shy and Okayu-chan being the cool relaxed cat 🥰 Now Korone-chan has a more energetic outspoken personality with her legendary monkey laughs and Okayu-chan is getting more mature in her personality and appearance 🥰
Yeah, as what okayu said, the reason I call korosan Korosan because I respect her very much. She’s not just cute but a smart intelligent brilliant pretty beautiful clever wonderful doggo.
I immediately knew this was a vintage clip because of how soft spoken Korone was (not to mention the infamous derp eyes). Funny how she had reservations about being called "Koro-san", considering that nowadays pretty much everyone calls her that. It's kinda crazy to see how much she's grown over her years in Hololive.
The moment I heard Korone's voice I knew this was from an old stream. A great clip nonetheless though. Really made me reminisce about the past and it's crazy to think a lot of us have been watching Hololive for over 3 years.
I like how around these parts we just call each other by our names and our closeness or distance from each other is determined by our actions. Seems less messy lol.
I think it's because vocal tone in Japanese is conditioned to be more subtle. It's to allow Japanese pitch accent to work, to protect surface harmony and, in the older days, to be more guarded against foreigners attempting to figure intentions. That's probably also why Japanese has so many first- and second-person pronouns: apparently even the Japanese themselves would be confused about the airs each other would be putting on otherwise.
At the same time tho, some things are actually waay simpler like the grammar for one. Japanese grammar is the simplest grammar in any language I've seen personally
I wouldn't call someone whose membership is called "sacrificial altar" and fans offer their fingers on a regular basis as a "-chan".. "-san" is as endearing as it gets for Korone-sama.
Aw, Koro-san didn't realize how great a comedian she already was then. Now she has no worries--I mean HAS CONFIDENCE. Okayun is good cat to God Dog. And nice trick with the thumbnails at the end lawl.
Here in finland calling people by names at all is quite uncommon for whatever reason. Its actually hilarious thats its very normal to just forget someones name completely
I really like Okayu calling Korone 'Koro-san' since in Spanish it sounds somewhat similar to "Corazón" which means "Heart", but in Spanish calling someone "Corazón" is like calling someone "My love" or "Sweetheart" and makes it so adorable. That's my head cannon.
You should comment that to Korone in one of her VODs someday. From what I understand that's a type of engagement most Holomems read, but few fans actually post.
I thought it might have been because it sounds similar to "korosanai," which essentially means "not kill," and depending on the context can mean "(I will) not kill (you)." She might cut off your yubis, but she will spare your life lol
This is good to know as I always wondered why Okayu calls her "Koro-san" even though I love the way she says it. Not being Japanese myself, I don't fully understand why certain honorifics are and are not used in certain situations but I feel like I have a general understanding of "-san" and "-chan" but still struggle to understand why they sometimes use "-tan" or "-chi" as is the case with Aku-tan or Nenechi (Mikochi).
I'm pretty sure "-tan" is just a variant of "-chan". They're phonetically very similar in Japanese, and "Aku-tan" definitely rolls of the tongue better than "Aku-chan"
That’s quite an interesting response from Okayu despite being 3 years ago. Similar to A-chan, people will notice I address them with “-san” in their channels and the main Hololive channel. That’s out of respect. But away from their channels, I address them normally like HoloEN and HoloID would with each other. Except for Senchou where I address her as Senchou in her channel, the main Hololive channel, other Holomembers’ channel and away from them channels. Not only because it is out of respect but also because I wanted to since it does mean “Captain” and that’s how pirates address their pirate captains anyway. If and only if they give the green light to address them casually, I will gladly answer the request.
Okay but real talk. Do we all see the same thumbnails when the video reaches its end? Because for me the two future videos show a close up of Okayu and Korone respectively and they fit their faces in the background almost perfectly.
Ah, I've been kind of wondering about that! I knew there had to be some reason why Okayu uses "-san" with Korone while Korone does yobisute with her; I'm not going to be the gaijin who says the native speakers are using honorifics wrong, even if it seems odd that there's such a difference in level.
0:57 WAIT WHAAAAAT!? That's what she thinks!? I started calling her Korosan because I felt more close to her, kinda like a nickname (like Okayu does) instead of her formal name LOL (and also because of 563) Noooo doggo that wasn't my intention D': it was the opposite!!! 😭 1:22 NYOOOOOO Lmao I'm gonna commit sudoku... 1:56 THIS TOTALLY THIS!!! Tell her OKayu lol There's a difference between Korone-san and Korosan! It fits her name too! Thank god it's an oldie but I wonder if she still thinks of that when read the name lol
I'm guessing I'm a bit of an outlier, sort of. I just like how Koro-san sounds, and I try to keep things... impersonal? I don't see myself as Korone's friend (or Ame, or Gura, etc, etc), I am a fan of their work. I just don't have to buy tickets for every performance, and missing it live (which happens a lot) doesn't mean I just miss the show, vods exist (and for JP talents, I have clips).
"San" is polite, but not excessively formal. "Tan" is an even more cute or affectionate variant of "chan". It fits Luna's personality, so I think it's good.
