The Rebbe never made such a claim. In fact, he said he was waiting for Moshiach's imminent return. I will never forget when the Rebbe, now of Blessed Memory went on to Gan Eden, a local Lubavitcher group said that he would be raised from the dead in 3 days. Later, these same people were still claiming the Rebbe would be resurrected. This is NOT what the Rebbe was teaching.
There is no limit to G-d's ability. Therefore if He wishes, the Rebbe can return to us as Moshiach. We don't know what will be in this world of total darkness, but until that awesome moment of Redemption, I believe the Rebbe is the Moshach of our generation, which he DID indicate clearly.

This videos title is very inaccurate, and the information is false. Just because a small group claimed the Rebbe was Moshiach, does not mean Chabad as a whole believes that, and the Rebbe denied any claims that he was Moshiach.

The Rebbe actually said that whoever claims (and continues to claim) that he is Moshiach should know they are going to war with him. That's how upset he was. It's sad that this infiltrated into the movement. I am Chabad and my entire family are Chabad and my children are Shluchim of the Rebbe's and this incorrect claim does not help bring anyone closer to their heritage nor does it make Moshiach come any faster.. I just hope the opposite is not true.

When we are telling some body that something is something: i. e., "This is wine." We first have to tell them what wine is: it is the juice of grapes (oh, what are grapes? they are the fruit of a vine that looks like this____, etc.), that ferments over time and it comes in either red or white or pink color. It has such and such a taste.... Our job is Moshiach Now. What is Moshiach? Who can be Moshiach? What does the Torah say about Moshiach? Does the Torah and the Rebbe match? How? Etc...
The Rebbe was a great Torah sage, one of the greatest in our generation, however there is no possibility for him to be the Mashiach. The prophet Eliyahu had to announce and annoint him. Since this didn't happen...

I am not endorsing the Chabadnicks who claim that th the Rebbe is Moshiach, but if you study the talmud in tractate sanhedrin ( in the chapter called cheleik) and learn Rambam the laws of kings and their wars, the Rebbe did meet alot of criteria to be the moshiach. To the person who created the title of this video. This is contrary to say that the Rebbe said that he was Moshiach. He alluded to the fact that he is, but where can you quote the Rebbe to say, "I am Moshiach"? Therefore, the title is improper, and it even turns off Meshichistim. Be more careful.
The rebbe did NOT say that he is the messiah. The title of this video is an outrage and an embarrassment. It should be changed. The rebbe was talking about the nature of the messiah and some of the qualities of the messiah. As to some of the comments about them thinking that their diety is the messiah, that is nonsense. Kingship (messianic rule) is only from the "House of David", and their claim is totally with no merit to have any connection to David or the Tribe of Judah, the tribe that King David hails from..
@Menechem Not entirely true. Yes, in certain talmudic verses it does speak of a false messiah like individual. Remember, during that era, the alleged Christ (note the greek name, it was not hellenized but actually greek from its inception) had a few individuals protesting against the Romans because of an inevitable revolt against them. In these scenarios, either the individual himself or the people will begin to consider the aforementioned leader(s) as a messiah.

@snatch147at85 It's very understandable why many Jews from Galille, christ being one would fight against the Romans. He did not intend to become what Europeans have made him to be. Galille was an extremely hellenized area where Jews spoke Greek fluently. His followers wrote down events in Greek, albeit many years after he was gone. Chabad is 100% necessary for the Jewish nation. Chabad excepts all Jewish people as Jews.
The notion of his being Moshiach is in any event ludicrous, as there were many people even in his day who were much greater than he was in all areas of Torah. But even besides for that, Rambam (Melachim 11:4) clearly states that Moshiach must defeat all the nations around him, build the Beis HaMikdash on its site and gather the dispersed of Klal Yisrael. The Rebbe of course did none of this: there is still widespread lack of observance throughout the world, and last I checked, the Temple Mount remains under Arab control. And as evident in many sources, he must be a live person (see previous halachah there, and Bereishis Rabbah 98:14). Further, the Rambam in Iggeres Teiman (p. 52 of Kafich ed.) states clearly that he will emerge in Eretz Yisrael (a place the Rebbe never even wanted to visit), and that he will be a man who will be UNKNOWN before his revelation. This certainly cannot be said of him. There's much more to say, but this suffices to debunk all Chabad's deeply disturbing heretical claims.

You and the rest of the members of the Chabad Messianic cult cannot hide behind the false notion that there are so-called "deeper meanings" that should be read into the words of Rambam. While there are some passages of Rambam -- both in the Yad and in the Moreh -- that are difficult to explain, the passages I cited are not among them.
