Something I think would fit nicely into the cyberpunk town would be a hidden illegal trading/auction shop of some sort- a shady building that trades important (but possibly fake) items from seasons past. Ren's crown, the source of mycelium, A drill from The Big Dig, and a bunch of fun other callbacks would be neat to see!

The pink + blue + green of the market stalls is giving strong powerpuff girls vibes. It would be cool if you had a cutesy anime/50s cartoon mascot character to advertise your game in the cyberpunk city. Maybe you could use glass panes as a hologram, floating in between a building or above in the sky?

I think the main reason for me that this season feels so much better than previous seasons is because of 3 things. 1) everyone is slowing down and not using/abusing Creative Worlds nearly as much thus they are in world interacting with others far mor and far more naturally. 2) most everyone has decided to try to stick to the ground more and use elytra less as a day to day methods of getting around. This feeds back into #1 and allows for more interactions and less "oh hey i think that was so and so who flew over". 3) the most important, in my opinion, is only possible because of the above #1 and 2. Because of the above it has allowed many hermits to fall back into the "Lets Play" aspect of their videos and gets away from the "hey look what I did" jumpcut/timelapse heavy style. That in my opinion takes us the viewer out of the action, its really not that much fun to watch someone 3d print a copy of something over to the server. However its far more enjoyable to come along for the ride, get to see the choices, see the builds fill out in a more natural way as they build section A then B then detail, etc etc. All of these have brought the hermits closer and allowing them to naturally interact more often as well as allowing the viewer to feel like we are somehow playing on the server as well. Remember this MC video business all started to blow up in popularity when people would bring the viewers along and allow them to have input and help shape the series to ensure everyone has a fun time each and every video/stream... Remember its Lets Play, not Lets Watch Me Copy Paste.

Impy, my suggestion would be: if you want it to be a marketplace alley, make the road tighter between than the normal road network. That will really drive home the “I’m surrounded by overhanging buildings and signs” feeling! Love the slow vibes and the talking through, keep up the good work brother!
@gamingnscience
@gamingnscience Месяц назад
I don’t entirely agree. If it‘s too crammed you cannot really take in the buildings and builds anymore. However once a second building is there, overhangs and connections between them higher up will help create that feeling.

Yeah, he could make the middle section of the building lean a bit more forward as well. That would maybe break up the flat side of the tall structure, and give it more texture. I think making bridges or connections above between the buildings would be really cool, as you can make it feel like you walk through a cyberpunk alley more. In my view, such objects above your head can also help in the minigame later on when hermits start visiting!

One thing I love about the cyberpunk style, is you can just keep adding details.Some styles if you add too much it ends up looking too busy, and detracts from the whole. The concept of an XP “atm” is super cool!! What if you used armor stands holding white and lime dye (or blocks) overlayed on top of each other in the glass to look like they are tubes of XP going through the channel into the machines! It can bring a sort of science aspect to the cyber punk that could be super interesting! Love your vids Impulse! 💜💜💜

I love the additions the the building. The 'pillars' down the front do a lot to add to the idea of a building/warehouse you would see in the industrial area of the city. Villager names: pick characters from 'Empire Records' thematic movie call outs for the win.

I really like the texturing you did on that side wall. I think your biggest weakness when it comes to building is too much symmetry, and that texture helped to break it out. Also, I enjoy the talk-through you tried in this episode more than the usual time lapses.

Since you’re building cyberpunk, calling the furnaces in your XP shop Automated Authorization Machines (AAM) would fit nicely. It gives the vibe of the tools/armor having disabled features which the vendor has to authorize in the enchantments and reflects the anti-consumer practices of many modern tech giants.

I really enjoyed this episode Impulse, it seemed to have just a bit of everything. Not saying all episodes need to be like that but it was a good mix. I actually liked that you put in a few time-lapses and also then took time to go through a building and thinking process. I think that’s a really nice format because you get that satisfaction of the timelapse and then you also get to slow down and go through a build with you. The shops are amazing! You’re really pushing the limits with the blocks and items and I love it. The record shop with random tunes is super fun. Another way to make it feel lived in would be to add moving parts, like blocks that turn on and off, pistons that fire randomly, sounds that happen in the background, like the city is always on the move and things are always happening somewhere. I almost want to say you should make a custom painting or two and import it so you can get the look you want. That’s a whole thing and up to you but I think that would be awesome. Also, you should have something that looks like a card or phone and ‘money’ floating through the green glass. Maybe xp bottles? Something to represent cyberpunk but also the function of the stall. :)

May I suggest that when you build the other buildings, if you want it to feel more squished, than having chains, iron bars or fences hanging to connect one building to the next. You could hang things from those connecting wires like shoes, someones laundry or signs advertising a shop. I mention this because where I live, a lot of houses/apartments are built on top of a shop, though a (small) restaurant is more common. Also, not to be too bothersome, on the side of this build where it's starting to corrode, you could add a garage. I only say that because the wall could be starting to corrode due to the bustling of the garage and surrounding shops. I say that because, when I go out into my own little compact shopping avenues, I see a lot here and there, normally local and/or for the street racing community. But it's just an idea, you know?

Timelapses are nice and pretty and satisfying which is great! The opening timelapse was a perfect place for it very laid back and chill. But yeah a lot happening over a few seconds cuts out a lot of content and thought processes that I feel a lot of viewers look for to learn and get inspired. Every little bit of detail you put into that shop was so intriguing and inspiring. You are nailing the balance!

Knowing the city is a game... I'm 100% invested. Great idea! I'm imagining Kowloon Walled City... look it up. Same feel. And it's multi tiered and maze-like, so a perfect cyberpunk style city. And how about "Rob" for the record shop guy... like in High Fidelity? Also... will a yellow banner fit on the side of the ATM instead of the paintings?

It would be a bit of a project, but I think a way to really add to the neon/cyberpunk look you could put a big platform at build height like a mob farm to keep the city dark all the time. (use things like lichen to make sure the light levels above 0 and light up the top of the platform to make sure you don't make an actual mob farm on accident)

You asked for a comment.... I think you talking thru your process of the build is awesome. It makes the viewer feel more like a part of it. With a time lapse we see a rushed build and sometimes don't get to see the hidden intricacies that went into it. Nor can we appreciate the actual time it takes. The subtle decor that we could otherwise miss. Great job. A suggestion for in the glass with armor stands.... different round orb items that mimic xp balls.... a slime ball, snow ball, magma cream, maybe a color pigment that is mostly round....

The contrast of the country life feel of the song as he is building, not just a city, but a cyberpunk city. Also, maybe have stalls that are either small, middle of road pop ups or have them extend out some on the other side to get the feel of a city marketplace. I have looked at numerous examples for my own projects and they always fit as much as they can into the place.
