The biggest red flag was at the very beginning. If the audience is confused on the concept and formula for the show, that means the company can double back and make major changes during the show. YG essentially voided the initial contract for the show with the other companies and you straight up lied to the audience, the contestants, the companies involved. The only reason only one company sued YG is because the other companies were scared of him….Oh loved the video by the way!
the fact that DREAMCATCHER sailed the fuck out of the island before the volcano exploded was something. MixNine's aftermath was just so devastating especially for the contestants who made it into the 2 final lineups.
i think the one who came first was from their company, so that must have done some kind of damage. but yes, the timing really couldn’t have been better for them.
Yeah. Dreamcatcher have more than 500 M brand views and more than 700 K physical sales, sailing to 1M soon, and the 5th gg to hit #1 on Billboard is "flops". Nice try, little troll...
Most debuted and are popular bcs jyp debuted them or they were in a small company but not rlly like cube ones in nugu companies have probably started new lives
@@aromakhalid6123 Some trainees that participated here are now in ITZY, Loona, CIX, Purple Kiss, Weeekly, ATEEZ, ONF, Omega X, Dream Note, solo artists (like Yukika), etc. Other trainees that participated were already idols before participating, like Dreamcatcher and A.C.E.
The biggest red flags were proabably the continued mixing up of how the "winners" would debut. From the beginning they said that one male or one female team would debut, depending on which team won. But then they said that they would debut both a male and a female team regardless of which of them "won". Then they said that they never said such a thing. There was also something specifically about debuting a female team that YG himself said at some point (his creepy smile and gaze was a thing that happened, but this comment isn't about that). But the end result was that nobody debuted, not the winning team nor anyone else. So the cracks were showing from the start.
@@gabrielmeth4844 Well, I meant it more as a "I have much more to say on that specific part of the topic" rather than a "I will not mention anything on this broad topic". With my comment mentioning YG and the things he said concerning the debut of the female trainees is crucial, as he is the one that said most of the things connected to that topic. Also trowing shade at YG is a good thing, in my opinion, cause that man is shady AF. Not only on this program, but also in general.
Tbh I feel most of YG Survival shows have been a mess. Not on THIS level, but looking into the aftermath of almost every one of his survival shows tells you that much. I mean Treasure Box for example - they just randomly decided to add like twice as many members as they originally had in the debut group? No shade to anybody, I’m sure in the end it was a good decision, but it shows how messy his shows tend to be. Out of every survival show I’ve seen YG ones are always the least enjoyable to me because they’re just so messy, it was bond to go wrong when he took on as big of a project as MixNine :/
Happyface out of sheer dumb luck, pulled Dreamcatcher out of mix9ine and recalled the 4 members to go join the 3 who had gone on their Brazil World Tour, I'm so grateful for that moment, otherwise Dreamcatcher would've failed a second time {the first being minx}
They forgot about woojin and the others tho. Woojin won top 1 but never debuted because YG decided to cancel the mess he calls MixNine. HFE clapped back with a lawsuit exposing all the shit that YG pulled in order to lengthen the show and the contracts of the trainees. I honestly feel bad for the trainees that wen in there and got traumatized. Some debuted in their own companies but the others dropped out of the industry completely
Honestly, since this show aired a lot of the trainees have regular jobs and aren't returning back to the entertainment industry. The show was an absolute train wreck and it's unfortunate that these traininees thought that they can make it big with one of the top three labels at the time, YG. Personally, I would feel absolutely disgusted if YG looked at me like that. This sucks that women have to do so much in this male dominated industry
Many say YG is terrible, but it just a bitter truth and harsh reality that happend in entertainment industry. Beside many negative comment we cant deny that mix9 give some group 2nd chance. And for me is fun to watch since all the song is in great arrangement that wont hurt my ears, as expected from YgE
I'm just glad Dreamcatcher pulled out of that show before it was too late. The fact that Jiu was ranked so high but barely had any screen time tells you the producers had their own narrative in mind. Also, Yang Hyun-suk is trash and Seungri was a little YG in training. Plus, the fact that YG knowingly sabotaged his own girl group so he could marry one of the members makes anything he says about these young girls so freaking creepy! I hate it here.
@@saindex8390 That's right. It was YG's first girl group, Swi.T. They debuted back in 2002 and only released one album and quickly disbanded in 2004 because YG didn't want them to get too big because he wanted to date one of the members which was a pretty big f you to the other members. But, he's still married to her and they have a kid so I guess it all worked out for him. 🤷♀️
right?? and let's not forget that on 'healing camp' he literally said that he first noticed her when she was in 8th grade which means she was a f minor, and he also said 'she was my type: cute, small and the youngest' WTF
One of the things that gets me the most upset is that many of the contestants in existing groups could’ve gone to The Unit (which was airing at the same time) instead. While The Unit was nowhere near as popular as the Produce series, they still ended up debuting 2 groups. The Unit was also proposed as a way to help current/former kpop group members that haven’t been successful in their careers. Maybe those who chose Mix 9 looked to the popularity of YG and their other survival shows and thought that Mix 9 was less of a gamble than The Unit.
i know a.c.e. did that 3 went to mix9 and the other 2 went to the unit. though i agree that honestly the already debuted group members should’ve gone to the unit. sure it wasn’t as popular but i feel the possibilities from going on the show would’ve been better.
When yg says that it's not even mandatory to debut the winner group in the first place, i instantly think "well then why the f you want to make a survival show in the first place???" Seriously, that is one of the dumbest argument i've ever heard --"
That’s the same thing I thought. What was the purpose of wasting peoples time and energy just to state you didn’t see a need to debut? He infuriates me soo much.
I always thought it was weird that only one of the groups could succeed in the end. Why take so much time to evaluate all these trainees when in the end, you aren't even going to utilize the other finalist trainees because of.... gender???? Why put trainees so young in age in a battle-of-the-sexes type of competition while also having them compete against each other to make it to the final lineup????
Actually, i remember when mixnine finished yg talked about debuting the gg as well, and i guess it was their plan since the start but like this video said everything lacked a proper structure. Since the bg was cancelled and the public opinion was so bad nothing happened at the end.
@@itsAlexD00d_ --- it is obvious!!! they are not really looking for idols to be debuted...they are looking for "desperate" candidates who are willing to do "anything" just to be famous!!... they will ask them to have sex with them in exchange for fake training!!:-) it's been like that for hundreds of years in show business!!!
The show is made even worse when you think about the sexism in the industry and among netizens, as you mentioned. A co-ed group would've worked great but they basically set these ladies up to either grin and bear it or be painted as the villain while they were being publicly mistreated. You could see the plane crash before the engines started.
@@muromilk2389ugh ikr... What a horrible man. And even using that name to describe a survival show that by itself would be normal, but the fact that he said that? I will never watch pd101 ever because how disgusting of a man to even think that regarding children. Or just girls dancing.
I was a BLINK and an Orbit at the time (still am!) and let me tell you, this show was a goddamn nightmare. First of all, BLACKPINK were rookies, ALREADY getting the YGE dungeon treatment. They were 1 year and a few months old and had 5 SONGS. And I was thinking, “If this show is going to be co-ed Produce, then it’ll get its own original songs, right?” Sure did! A bunch of original songs with YG’s seal of approval, meanwhile the BLACKPINK girls were out of work. Mind you, they didn’t even have their own social media at the time, Jennie would go on VLIVE to play with slime and talk about her favorite Netflix shows because nothing else was happening. Not to mention you could clearly hear Rosé’s voice on the theme song, so they had the girls in the studio singing demos just to give those songs to a fruitless survival show. As an Orbit, more than just the fact that the LOONA predebut project was coming to an end and 2018 would be LOONA’s debut year, so if the girls had debuted the official debut would have to be pushed back - sending the members on the show was just completely unnecessary, it’s not like the ratings were good or anything so there was barely any exposure. Nobody in the fandom wanted them to debut and we had to wait until the final to find out 😭 I think most fans even of other groups like Dreamcatcher didn’t want their members to debut because 1. it’s YG, they cannot multitask. Who would make their music? Teddy?; 2. These girls have plans, a fandom and a group waiting for them back home. So it was useless. He also made sure to humiliate the LOONA girls for storyline and viewership purposes (didn’t work) and evil edit one of them. Needless to say the fans weren’t happy and we couldn’t care less if it was a big 3 company, we wanted freedom 😭 This show was really just a big broadcasted event for a company like YG to exert power and influence over smaller companies and humiliate them to make YG look good/better. The “big company” that actually knows what they’re doing compared to these small companies desperate to promote their trainees! Despite all the clownery and lack of professionalism, this show had some pretty amazing trainees, some of the best in my opinion despite how terrible the show was. That was really the only good thing about it. There were a lot of amazing vocalists and dancers. The show also has the best success rate of all survival shows for some reason? ITZY, LOONA, ATEEZ, Weeekly, Dreamcatcher, Purple Kiss come to mind. Guess it’s good karma for what YGE put them through 😅
@@oyCZAR 😭😭 there’s still a video here on RU-vid called “Hyunjin is a snake b*tch” it hasn’t been taken down since. She got a bunch of hate when she was really just playing the game and her strategy was to have her and Heejin on different teams so they could both rank at the top spots - if they were both in the same team only one of them could win. She would never purposefully hurt someone she considers a soulmate. But it’s kinda funny how nowadays they make fun of that scene 😂
@@votingbot2446 I was more talking about idol groups than actual k-pop acts in general (besides the debuting group itself). Besides Nu’est, WJSN and G-IDLE I’m not sure what other post-produce groups I could mention? In fact there’s a well known “Produce curse”
I never watched MIXNINE, but that Seungri clip 🤮 he was so rude, demeanoring and condescending, "look where you are, and look where I am". So disgusting, and even more taking into consideration all the information that came out afterwards. 🤮😡
yeah! he was such an asshole. Not everyone have the privilege and opportunities to debut in a young age. That comment is also misogynistic considering he doesn't said the same to the guys who are older than her. What a joke. No wonder he was in the burning sun scandal lol. I hope the girl is doing well and having her best life
@@Peace33189 Rotten in jail, who? Did you ever analyze of what he said? But I think that you don't understand him. Speaking of you saying that he must jail, oh I don't think so in the first place because he doesn't have any victims at all but instead he was witch hunted by the media instead and the people that should be in jail instead who involved in this mess for ruining Seungri's life are Kim Sangkyo the so-called "hero", Kang Kyungyoon the donkey reporter, Lawyer Bang, Jung Joonyoung of JJY Band, Choi Jonghoon of FT Island, Lee Jonghyun of CNBLUE, Han Seohee who is a drug pusher, brother of Yuri of Girls' Generation, Mr. Kim, Mr. Heo, and finally Superintendent Yoon who's lying. Remember, Seungri Case, Molka Chat Case and Burning Sun Case are different cases, don't ever mixed up.
Even as bad as the show was ran and very confusing, the final lineup of guys was amazing: 2 members of A.c.E., Hangyeum of Seven O’Clock, Woojin of D1nce, Rubin of 1Team, Hyunjin of ONF and Hyunsik and BX from YG, also Minseok who later left ONF. Talent wise that’s one of the best groups ever!
Sorry? YG always have better survival show hehehe keep hating. Remember WIN? That’s the most nerve wrecking show ever.. because no one knows who’s gonna be the winner as at that time ikon actually can be the winner and WINNER might be not debuting. You might hating on YG but they always released bop even on survival show. WIN, the self composed and writing songs actually better than most of your oppa’s songs. Mix and match also. And there’s mixnine, alots of bop. But yeah since its YG, you just hate it because its the most successful company ever and no one can bring them down. ☺️
They also got evil edited that's why she didn't make the final lineup. But I think she knew that only one of them will debut so she sacrificed herself so Heejin will rank better.
And remember how for the first mission where they learned the theme song they didn't even announce who won that mission. They just chose the centers and the 1st place winner was only verified in an episode that aired much later 🤦😭
im just glad that Ryujin was above this show from the start. She really just entered to gain popularity and fanbase. She stood away from the drama throughout the show, even though some of the contestants wanted to have a beef with Ryujin. Anyway Ryujin is in ITZY now and they are thriving!
These types of shows should be moniored by the government so that they are fair and honest, and have therapists ready to help the participants deal with the stress
Yg's love story is weird too his wife is the little sister of member of sechkies ( a yg group ) and he told he met her first when that member gave a home tour and she saw her dishwashing for a couple seconds and liked her and they have a 10-11 yr age gap so that means she should have been a minor or atleast young when he saw her, and she debuted too and he really wished the group would FAIL so that she wouldn't have fanboys fighting over her, and then confessed and married her like what?! You wished her dream wouldn't come true so you can have her?!
What the- So, correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding, YG's wife is the young sister of a member from Sechskies whom he met when that member gave YG a home tour. YG then debuted her just to fail in orfer for him to marry her. Please correct me if I'm wrong or have a misunderstanding
he’s a weirdo. and the way he look at these minors in the show is so creepy. i wld have been so uncomfortable if it was the female trainees. the comments he made were very questionable too
I'm going to be honest I never saw YG as fatherly people forget he toke his wife out of her own group to date her, knock her up and marry her because he thought she was "cute and special". If he can marry his own trainee you really think he's thinking of these girls as fatherly.
I honestly knew the show would be a mess just from the first couple of episodes. The editing was a mess! The way they would just cut randomly between places and guests judges, some companies would be properly introduced others would even be mentioned by name, the constant changes in audition rules, Yang and Seungri being creepy with the girls...I thought it would improve once they reached the competition stage but nope! One of the girls teams in the first round wasn't even introduced before performing, no behind the scenes preparation stuff, nothing! It's honestly no wonder the finale wasn't sold out. But seeing the big empty spaces in the audience must have felt so awful for the contestants. In the end the only good thing to come out of this mess was the holy trinity that was Hangyeom Hyojin and Donghun
Honestly 2017 mixnine had some of my favorite idols on it. Like Woo Taewoon!!!! KNK, ACE, ONF, Myteen, Seven O Clock, pre-d1ce, pre-1team, pre-Ateez, pre-treasure, pre-cix, multiple boys24 contestants. They legit had the most amazing group of people and the show didn't treat any of them well
I remember back in 2017, I mostly watched the Unit and Mixnine for A.C.E. With Chan debuting via the Unit, I was hyped for TWO A.C.E members to debut via Mixnine. With world tours, comebacks and albums promise, I was absolutely gutted when the debut was cancelled.
I try to look at it as a blessing - it would have been nice for Donghun and BK to get more exposure, but a messy promotion might have prevented us from getting so many amazing things from A.C.E in the long run
thanks to the Unit, that show made me know about A.C.E and I love Chan as well! and Jun voice omg! I never know about Mixnine until YGTB appeared where Junkyu mentioned Mixnine thats when I check Mixnine and yes! That boy from A.C.E that dance so well I was rooting for him! *sorry I forgot his name :(
This show had the best quality in talent with the contestants and the debut lineup was also the best most all-rounded and talented lineup from a survival show ever.
when I first saw their debut I recognized Hongjoong and Mingi from MixNine, but now they've really made a name for themselves because I completely forgot they were on the show until I read your comment lmaoo
These survival shows in general all feel like they are nothing more than a way for a company to find someone who is deemed the most popular of their respective categories and create temporary groups for a quick cash grab without any actual long term plans set in place for making these temporary groups permanent after seeing their success. Examples that come to mind are Wanna One, X1 and IOI. EDIT: Essentially, these groups are "get rich quick" plans. They never count on them achieving actual success and despite garnering a loyal fanbase, meaning people who are willing to pay for things related to the group, they disband them anyways even when said group has shown that they have the ability to garner attention and fans. When a temporary group gains traction and shows that they have what it takes to be successful, they ruin it, essentially sabotaging their own pockets.
x1 was intended to be permanent tho wasnt it? i thought the group only ended up being canceled over the rigged votes (i may be wrong tho i wasn’t too into pdx) edit: not permanent, i think it might’ve been 5 years 😓 but that’s practically permanent
In reality, with the amended proposed terms after the end of the show, YG would snatch the winners for 3 years and create a new not-so-temporary group. Nobody accepted surrendering their idols like this, so the debut was cancelled. And this guy never forgot or forgave...
You know something is up when a company withdraws idols who are in a nugu(at the time) group and sends them on a tour rather than have them continue to compete. 👀
Being a Insomnia means you know exactly what happen during mix9. Its definetly upsetting, cause, even if we arent 100% sure, the possibility of YG doing something againts HF behind the scenes so they would leave the lawsuite alone is very high. D1CE also suffer greatly from this, and it breaks my heart to know they worked so much for this, and got anything in return. As a Dreamcatcher fan, it makes me amazingly happy that they left before everything got like it did, but, as a D1CE fan, it makes me sad, like, really sad.
this is probably me being biased but i'm so glad the debut fell through. super unfortunate for the members who needed that as a push to take off but, as an a.c.e fan, i'm so happy my boys weren't trapped in yg's shady business. it would've been so difficult for them to escape it especially since they come from such a small company. fortunately, they've achieved so much and are doing great on their own, with all five members, through their own hard work.
The only notable thing I saw after Mixnine's debacle was Shin Ryujin, who as we all know, became an integral member of ITZY, one of the top 4th gen girl groups. The speculation at that time was that YG offered her a contract to join YGE but she decided to stay with JYPE. She made the right decision in the end if that was the case.
I really think the smaller agencies should've collectively joined together to sue YG, not only for the entire thing being a complete waste of time and money - it painted their trainees in a bad light, but they bore the cost of basically leasing out their trainees when they could've been training/preparing to debut with their respective groups, and for sexual harassment. I felt so bad for the female trainees - if YG leered at me like that, I'd leave the industry entirely.
@@votingbot2446 HF really is very brave for a small company (at that time). They really treasure their idols and trainees. I'm glad their thriving now.
@@markigirl2757 yeah the problem is no one knows what happened. I hope for HF that they got paid enough to keep quiet, but I'm still not sure if they faced any repercussions after that. Some people even talk about a blacklist of the industry. HF and Dreamcatcher were not big back then, so saying the were brave would be an understatement. But they still made it, that's why InSomnia sometimes get a bit defensive because there was some shady stuff happening, for example on music shows. Small or medium companies just have to fight their way in this industry.
THE AGE SHAMING WOMEN IS RIDICUOUS. ESPECIALLY WITH THE DOUBLE STANDARD. Men arent nearly age shamed as women. Once a woman hits her mid 20's/30, they are instantly branded as "old". The fact that women have this "expiring" beauty/age is RIDICUOUS. ALL women are beautiful. Ive seen gorgeous women in their 40's, 30's and even 50's. We need to change this
As someone who biases Woo Jinyoung in D1CE (lowkey ult him), I still can't bring myself to watch Mixnine because of these reasons. I also ult LOONA and listen to ITZY's music, as well as ult DREAMCATCHER so it would've been a perfect reason to check it out but I don't want to see my idols' hopes and dreams get dunked on like that
I feel the same way. I ult ONF and CIX, so seeing BX and all of ONF treated this way makes me unwilling to watch it (honestly I don’t want to watch anyone being treated that way anyways).
It would of been much better if the 9 that would of debuted would be mixed and the whole show might of possibly worked out much better if that was the goal in the first place. Coed groups need more appreciation.
I followed Mixnine when it was aired, just because I love Real Girls Project. But since 2nd episode, the episode where I excitedly watch since they are in the episode, I was devastated. How come he can comment Sori's age even when she's tried hard to debut? I don't know anymore. And at the 1st performance, girls team Greedy don't even have a screentime for a backstory so they just slap it in extra episode. Then suddenly it's ranking, and elimination, and besides those two that you mentioned, at the final also they evil edit Hyunjin (loona) so many fans that watched hates Hyunjin. It's hard to watch Mixnine with the bad edit and those red flags that you mentioned.
thea trainees go through months of overworking and no sleep just to not debut at all? these survival shoes are constantly a mess in general and these people need to have a lot of hope to continue if anything
I feel so bad for these trainees, especially the ones who were set to debut. Imagine waiting and waiting to debut and then hearing that your debut got cancelled. Unexplainable
I literally only watched this show for Yao Mingming and he barely got any screentime till the very end when his popularity suddenly rose up. He ranked 10th barely being cut from the "final group", there are clips of him crying from being cut. In the end he went on a Chinese survival show and finally debuted but it was a long road. As for mixnine I knew the show was a mess, I didn't plan on watching it originally because PD101 s2 just ended and I was watching the unit for boyfriend but when I found out Mingming was on mixnine I decided to try to watch it. It had so many problems with the structure being extremely unclear, unequal airtime (it was clear YG had favorites, people complain about pd101 but mixnine was worse), and I wasn't surprised just disappointed when nothing came of the show in the end. Even the Unit had its problems but still was far better than mixnine in every way.
This survival show was created only for YG to flex his "power" and "status", but he didn't give a single shit about the contestants and their future. It's actually so cringe how the winning reward was to be a temporary group under YG's care. Can't believe we gave him that satisfaction to feel "powerful".
Mix9 are consider flop in kr, most audience are international fans. Besides after the show they got some fame and their original company want them for themself. Thats why they didnt reach agreement.
There was a very big persistent rumor that said that YG was only interested in debuting the girl group, but the boy group won instead, and because he wasn't that interested in them he didn't debut them.
I must say that although the Unit wasn't as successful as Produce series and a lot of their contestants remained some what unknown or didn't had a boom like some Produce contestants had, it was at least more collected, not that creepy and at least they debuted not just one but both groups. Also the quality of the show was definitely much better.
In my country, AGE doesn't matter as long as you can deliver a great performance & vocal. There is female singer who already married & have 2 children but she still active singing in my country & popular. The entertainment culture in every country is different, I guess.
to be fair, it is the same in Korea, just not for idol music. Trop music, which is incredibly popular in Korea, features quite a few middle aged and older female singers. Older western female singers can also get popular in Korea. There is just a different expectation for idol music, which has always been marketed as "young pretty people".
@@shireenrazak7160 lol what no it doesnt. 2ne1 has issues but its NOT because of age. Besides minzy became an adult too its not like every teen in a group stays a teen so its irrelevant
is not a suprise that YG was looking at the girls like that, since he met his wife when she was very young too and he said in a interview that he found her "cute" when he first met her (and she was a minor)
YG said that heejin, hyunjin and haseul are not pretty, that they don't have talent, they make a _devil editing_ between hyunjin and heejin 🙄 fun fact: they always rank in the top... and he uses the same words that haseul said in the audition for the annoucement of the BP solos... the good thing about mix nine is the friendship of 3jin♥ (heejin/hyunjin/ryujin).and it's good to see a lot of idols that debut later and they are doing well! ♥
An enjoyable watch! The big red flag I noticed is what others have also commented: that only one group could succeed, while the other group would just be discarded. I think with the "losing team," the show and K-pop labels could have utilized those trainees for a new group or a 1-2 member addition for future groups. Another red flag was the show was so disorganized. Winners were chosen without an announcement; they'd just be voted in on the next episode without any context or an official statement. Or the winners would be mixed up. The editing was also so bad and inconsistent. And of course, some of the YG artists being creepy with the female contestants. Just a train wreck of a show.
The only good thing about Mixnine is that it gave a bit of exposure to the contestants that debuted in their respective groups later & that a lot of them are still good friends. Additionally there are so many now successful groups that had contestants at this show, its really interesting: Ateez, Oneus, ONF, CIX; Itzy, Dreamcatcher, Loona...
Watching this video really helped learn the story of MIXNINE which some of the events I knew of and some I didn't. I think the biggest red flag would have to be, like you mentioned in the video just the overall lack of structure for the program also YG taking forever to debut the group to ultimately cancel the plans didn't help either. P.S. Great Video Keep up the great work 😊
I literally don't know more than %80 of the trainees at MixNine, even though I watched it so many times already. Produce / Girls Planet isn't very fair at screentime distribution as well, but it is far better than MixNine. Trainees have their own fancams, even one for the signal song. They have their own PR videos. They have their own official profiles. While at MixNine, I only knew like 40 trainees.
I disagree GP999 also only show about 40% of trainees. At least they have fancam but what's the point of giving then fancam when they aren't even any screen time on the show, people aren't gonna be interested in watching them.
@@bebebongBaebae You can easily know all the 99 trainees and their names in Girls Planet, but you can't do that in MixNine because most of the contestants don't even have official profiles.
You never know what goes on behind the scenes. Somebody might be getting paid to tamper results even as we are typing. The only ones left to suffer are the poor trainees, who's dreams and future are being played with.
I'm so glad I tapped out of that shit show after 5 episodes and focused on the Unit. Even though it rebooted no one, at least we got the final teams. If they had gone a similar route and debuted two teams, I doubt that it would have been that messy of an ending bc you could tell that Yang wanted the girl group and not the boys. If both were supposed to debut, there would have been some hope for the boys despite not being what Yang wanted (since he couldn't debut one and let the other rot without legal repercussions). Every piece of me wishes that Happyface was able to be successful with the lawsuit so Yang would have fucked around and found out that you can't bully (be honest, it was bullying) smaller companies like that. In terms of the weirdness towards the female trainees (in particular, the A100 trainees and Yukkika), it made me so uncomfortable and I'm glad that CL said something to him but I do wish that it was more serious (I get that she really couldn't though). It was so weird and I don't get that how he, as a grown man, could look at girls that were young enough to be his children like that. That man is a predator (wbk) but it was like no one cared because of who he was. JTBC or someone should have stopped it because these are people's children he's messing with and you couldn't be upset if an angry parent retaliated for the way he was speaking to these girls. Yang is more than a weirdo at this point and I'm glad he's gone. Now to the ageist comments, they need to have the same energy with the children and men. Why is it a problem when a 30 year old is trying to follow her dreams but when a 30 year old man is doing the same thing, it's a problem?? A lot of people are quick to say that she should be starting a family but what about the men? I didn't know that women start families all on their own (not literally, I know there are extenuating circumstances that lead to single motherhood and there are some women who choose to start a family on their own. Just bear with me)? How is she gonna support herself when y'all (the misogynistic viewers) expect her to stay at home? Don't they realize that she can have her dream and a family? What if she doesn't want kids and her main priority was to be happy (as it should be)? But men can do whatever, huh? In the same breath, they're demonizing older women but won't stop a child from entering this shitty industry where they can/will be hurt. So many underage kids participated that should have been in school and living their best childhoods with their friends but instead, they're being subjected to assholish netizens and creeps like Yang and Seungri (there are weird women in the industry, I know). The music industry (in general) is not for children and idk when people are going to understand that. They are too vulnerable and there are too many people with fucked up intentions (example: East Light & TRCNG). This wasn't supposed to be this long/ turn into a rant but Yang and Mix Nine in general irritates me so much. So many talented trainees were lost/ gave up because of that waste of a show.
i still cry over this show. but i CAN say that it played a massive role in shaping my kpop stan life, being there from the very beginning and watching soooooo many of these trainees go on to debut in various 4th gen groups years later. i always feel like i have a special connection to idols who were on this show.
I really enjoyed mixnine, though many of your points are very valid especially about the lack of direction and the strange, inconsistent promises to the winners. Also pitting the girls against the boys really wasn’t that fun to watch. However having followed Winner, iKON, and Treasure since their reality shows, YG’s ability to pick contestants and put together a good team is not something I have doubts or complaints with. And watching them go to different companies to meet the trainees was really fun and interesting, I’ll always remember the tiny studio way out in the country, it was so cute. The part about his reaction to the girl trainees was kind of weird to watch, and not as funny as the editors seemed to think it was, but I do think it was probably more about the editing. If Yang Hyunsuk’s face looked a little less like a crocodile, if he was some handsome kdrama lead then no one would’ve thought about it.
This show was tragic, so glad I rinsed my eyes later with The Unit. At least they debuted BOTH teams. I only endured it for Vromance, Oneus, and Purple kiss members tbh
"you're the same age as me yet you are auditioning while I am the judge" more like she's the same age as you living life as a free woman while you go to jail for at the very least being complicit in disgusting inhuman shit.
Of all idol survival show i only like The Unit. Because it's so much watchable and they only show healthy competitive on show. It's really hard to dislike the judge or the contestant too.
Sadly, The Unit (and MIXNINE) isn't popular as PD Series due to the format of the show, aside from the fact that people had enough of survival shows. I wish people would look at how this survival show has the least or non-existant issue. It also has the least successful stars. You can only count them in your one hand who actually made it. I wish they had the same luck as some MIXNINE contestants after the show because even though this show is flop, they found their way.
i remember celebrating like crazy along with other orbits when the girls team lost because heejin had made it to top9 and we thought her debuting in a temporary group would postpone loona’s debut for at least a few years. but the boys team then getting the news that the whole thing was cancelled was so sad, what was the point of all of it then
I'm glad that some of them are already idols I'm hoping for their successful careers. I wanna thank YG for not choosing hongjoong, mingi, wooyoung and jongho because there's no ateez without them. Btw stan ateez!!
I only know of the show because some of Ateez members where part of it ( I think Jongho ,Wooyoung, Hongjoong and Mingi ) and Atiny always say they dodged a bullet, they got eliminated. I would have watched it but I cringe at the behavior I saw here towards girls, I don't think I could watch the entire thing now 😬
its better to not see it, mingi had almost no screentime and got into a group that idk if got evli edited or not but were shown as a bunch of cocky mfs, wooyoung was made to question his talent and thrown off despite not making any mistake, jongho and hongjoong were evil edited as if they were pretentious bc of how much they knew about musical theory, and jongho was never praised as he should have been.
Heads up for choi hyunsuk that had to go through both mixnine and yg treasure box and still made it to the lineup of both, now being a successful leader of treasure❤
I agree with that "creepy" remark to YHS HAHAHHA I watched Mix Nine but that made me uncomfortable... especially when the girls are trying to do sexy concept
YG’s responses to the girl group isn’t anything new, tbh. YG Entertainment’s first girl group, Swi’T (2002), was short-lived because of him. He had a crush on one of the members (Eunju) and sabotaged the group’s career shortly after debut. In the past, he’s even admitted to purposefully mismanaging the group because of this. A lot of people only know her as Sechskies Jaejin’s younger sister and YG’s wife, but Eunju was an idol at one point and very talented. It’s especially messed up because her parents weren’t there for her and Jaejin had his own problems with Sechskies disbanding due to issues with DSP (he was the only one to vote no to disbandment and was considering suicide). She later convinced Jaejin to have Sechskies join YGE, which was good for getting a new audience to learn about them but there’s still issues with promotions. Also kind of sad because it didn’t used to be this way. Danny from 1TYM said that the company used to be very welcoming and focused on the music. And a lot of Seo Taiji & Boys fans consider YG to be basically a different person from his group days to his company days. I think him stepping down was a good thing, as Mixnine put a spotlight on issues that had been around for a long time.
Can u make a video about the reboot survival show The Unit? I think it was one of the freshest takes on a survival show, and one of the most wholesome with not much evil editing. It was a shame that the group didn't really take off :')
Yes the performances are so amazing but I will never forgive and forget for what this show did to byounggon. How he has thoughts of not being an idol anymore after his 2nd survival show. He was so happy when he was part of the debut line up of mixnine and then it was canceled.
Because of Dreamcatcher and Loona were in the show I started watching it, my first red flag was seeing YG in the audition process being a douchebag and mean to Haseul. I stop watching the show right there. I pray for DC and Loona and watch RU-vidrs recaps until DC left the show before shit hit the fan. I felt so relieved and above all I'm glad Hyunjin became friends with Ryujin. Great video as always
