Diamondbacks President & CEO Derrick Hall explains the story behind the only red seat at Chase Field and the special fan, Bob Ellmer, who inspired the tribute. Produced, shot and edited by Jake Knapp.
A truly touching story. I've grown up a lifelong Cardinals fan, but I'm a baseball fan first. I'll always love that David Vs. Goliath 2001 series where the D-Backs beat the Yankees in 7 games. I had the privilege of finally catching a game at Chase just last Summer and it's a great ballpark. I love the pool in the outfield, and more so I love that the way its constructed, no matter where you're walking in the concourse, you always have a direct line of sight to the field, something not many other stadiums have. From Cardinal Nation - RIP Bob.
RIP Bob that was a gotta story. I still remember when the DBacks sent me pictures of the stadium for a project during the summer ! They sent official Kodak pictures from the top of the stadium and inside I will never forget that !!!!!!
Slick Forde I'm not gonna tell you what I think but what is your proof god isn't real? You have just as much of a reason to believe that as the guy who commented this that god *is* real. What's your evidence?
Gabe Watson There is such an unbelievable abundance of evidence against god that the list would take hours for me to complete. We can start with a few, however: Evolution (don't argue me on this one, it's real, read a book or google it, but you're stupid if you think otherwise) Biblical contradictions (According to the Bible, Noah's arc is about 500 feet long, and 100 feet high. Do the math, there are 6.5 MILLION land animals on Earth. That's 13 million creatures fitting on a TINY boat. Not happening) Next point, other religions. There have been hundreds of religions recorded throughout time, but you think that your one is the right one? That's just unreasonable. Most religions actually came before Christianity. The Greeks' gods and goddesses existed long before yours, and they thought they were right, yet their religion died out. Why not yours? I can honestly go on forever, but the fact of the matter is that people use religion for comfort and to explain the things they don't yet understand. There are some good stories and all, and I think for literature the Bible is great, but ultimately it's just not true, and it's unhealthy to treat life as if it is.
I wonder how many extra red seats they have. Those seats are made for mass production, and they have to have a minimum ordering number, meaning they might have 100 red seats somewhere in the back.
This sounds like the time when I asked what the red seat was for in Fenway Park to our tour guide after he just explained it, it was a school field trip, I got really pissed and almost got my friend with a wild hook punch.
I don't blame Bob early on for hating the color change. The purple and green looked better on the D-Backs, and it was unique compared to the rest of MLB.
