Could never get enough of Harpo playing the harp, and Chico on the paino. The great vaudeville actors adapting to the television format and Mr Benny dropping by, fantabuls

Harpo and Red Skelton could have been an incredible silent comedy team together -- certainly Red learned a lot about mime and silent comedy from the master, and they would undoubtedly have had great chemistry in Red's silent/mimed sketches -- that final bit here, with the soldiers, is just a tantalizing hint at the might-have-been. Too bad Harpo couldn't have been at least a regular on Red's show.

Of all the, Red Skelton, skits, this one is one of my, top, favorites. It is, reminiscent of the, WW1 Christmas Truce, of 1914, when soldiers on, both sides, quit fighting. Though, Red Skelton was just, doing the skit, to entertain, it does have a message. Imagine if the people, starting wars, had to fight them, themselves. There other skits, that, Red, did, that is just as, deep, the 'Pledge Of Allegiance' and when he dances with the rag doll, in the Christmas, special. He danced with the rag doll and felt the love, of Christmas, for a while and then, she was gone, very heart warming.

Harpo playing the harp was just a big plus for me. The song is guardian angel, which was written by Harpo. Mario Lanza recorded this song on his Christmas album and Harpo is listed as playing the harp for the recording.

Thank you so much for bringing this too Mahalia’s fans. We have been longing for more of the rare clips of her many television 📺 appearances from the 1950s to early 1970s. I am looking forward to this reportedly memorable appearance.

Thanx again, Red Skelton Museum, for sharing another little treasure! The heavenly tones of Mahalia Jackson, and the beautiful harpistry of Harpo Marx, and wonderful Red, to bring it all together. RIP, and thanks to all, for the magic, music, and memories.

Remarkable that I remember bits of this TV episode, such as when the Appleby character has problems with the sewing machine when Harpo appears.

I just love how Red can break character with his ad-libs in the middle of the skits such as at @26:08 with mentioning about the placement of a cue-card.

Virginia had work with Harpo and Chico in 1941 film The Big Store

In many of Red Skelton's skits, he was a master at the _double-entendres,_ such as at @27:23.

Virginia Grey appeared with the Marx Brothers in THE BIG STORE(1941).

The Harpo playing in the Harpo/Angels was fabulous!

Harpo is such a marvel musician. Plays several instruments. I read hes self taught on the harp. ! Genius. All the brothers too. Multi talented

The joke in the beginning is that Red went to the wrong studio, his show was on CBS.

How come they use a kinescope in the MARX BROTHERS TV COLLECTION when it exists on videotape?

Way back in the 1960's it was still allowed to make fun of democrats on tv shows......
