There is Something to add: Ahlenfelder had his liquid lunch with an older Referee, who was his superior. The superior forced him to drink with him.

If I recall correctly that guy had a heatstroke, so I would blame it on lack of breaks to cool down during very hot summer.

The 2021 edition of AFCON was a disaster on many points: this and the Mauritanian anthem messup were the the harmless ones, but there were deaths and gunfights. Still memorable, especially the Cameroon-Comoros game

As a German Football fan „Hanover 96“ sound so off in English. We say 96 as six and ninety. And the club name is so engraved in my brain, the wrong - although way more logical - arrangements of the numbers is super strange.

Not really. Although play was interrupted at the beginning of the war, it has already resumed in October 1939. In fact, German championships were played until 1944.
