I doubt that I am alone in this feeling, but I am so happy when I see these younger musicians coming on and picking out some killer older music. And I love the variety. Just gives me hope inexplicably. Sometimes I feel the past gets lost with the streaming age of constant new, so I love to see it! Brooke has some seriously great selections.
Seriously. I’m wondering how they even heard of some of this incredible stuff ..they must have rad parents and/or mentors. Leonard Cohen?! Mars Volta?! Yes.
I always get excited when someone pulls out an XTC album. Skylarking is said to be their best but it's further down the line to me. English Settlement and Black Sea. But all of their albums are superb. PS The tall girl keeps talking over the shorter girl.
I agree. English Settlement probably their best. My personal favorite (hard to choose, really, I’m a fan of it all) would be The Big Express. I hear this too that Skylarking is their “best”, but I think that it’s just the most commercially accessible album of theirs.
Agreed (English Settlement is amazing). Todd Rundgren produced Skylarking. He and Andy Partridge did not get along, to the point Partridge referred to the process as one bunker, two Hitlers. lol.
I just realised that the so-so indie album that I thought came out 4-5 years ago is actually 12 years old, and is being cited as "a classic" of some musician's "formative years".
I agree, I'm 42 and there is now a new generation of musicians who are influenced by albums that seem to have came out yesterday. Getting old is weird! I love that Tame Impala album though, but calling it a classic is a bit much in my opinion :o)
personally I'm not the biggest fan of the "if I want to get into [x] what should I listen to?" approach though. which I +personally+ find kinda odd. e.g. if someone wanted to get into hiphop, the first releases I'd suggest to them certainly wouldn't be records from 20 or 30 years ago. but instead the very best albums of the last 2 or 3 years. and it's not like there aren't, for example, no more great metal bands/records anymore. (in short, I feel my issue with the aforementioned approach is that to me it makes listening to music and discovering new artists and genres seem like doing homework)
i love the regrettes, and its awesome knowing the inspiration and what forms their band, but honestly most of the time the faye webster cassette tape was staring at me
When Brooke pulled Kim Gordon for the appetizer I was like sickkk, then she brought up The Mars Volta for the main dish and I was like wow okkkkk, then for dessert she wants to bring up Metallica?!?!?! Oh hell no babygirl I’m ordering our wedding rings from Hot Topic right now 💍 😮💨😩😍🫠😭
Oh wow... Lydia with the epic PET SOUNDS and SKYLARKING pulls!!!! (Two of the great albums of all-time... and XTC is the BEST!)... I'm going to recommend three more you should love based on those excellent choices: THE CHILLS "Soft Bomb" (brilliant New Zealand pop), GUIDED BY VOICES "Do The Collapse" (Greatest DIY band in rock history fills out their songs and gets some slick production... and it works!! Great songs on this one), THE ZOMBIES "Odyssey and Oracle" (Right up there with Pet Sounds as a perfect album from beginning to end). THE WONDER STUFF "Eight Legged Groove Machine" (fantastic debut with one great song after another... I now must do a deep dive into The Regrettes!! You all have great taste!! Cheers!
oh yes ,check out anything by Agustus Pablo and the song butterflies by iris andies and Raggadon, its pop epic with a little reaggae toasting thrown in-for brooke and all the Regrettes,
great guys all and while i don,t agree with all their picks, some i love, King tubby, lenard cohen, beach boys(who dosen't like that)-geeze! Lydia is quite the talker haha and Brookes mullet cool-i dont want to hurt anyones feelings so i won't say who i can,t stand,( hint lead singer is named Bono) lol :) anyway everyone was super nice and i wish them all cheers and good health and fortune today and always,i know this band works hard.✌🌻🦋🇺🇦 NO WAR
If you adore "Love It If We Made It" by The 1975, check out the blue print of the song. "The Downtown Lights" by The Blue Nile. Music doesn't get much better than that :) You're welcome.......
Absolute garbage list. The youth these days all listen to the same hipster commercial trash. Metallica, beach boys, missy elliot. Seriously?? Theyre good but show us something different
