The accident, crash rate is quite normal as it was a training school that used the airfield, second world war training schools were all over the UK in the forties, i worked on many RAF bases that have a disused airfield from the war, lincolnshire has many disused airfields however you can never gain access to them. The buildings have a special coating called MAYCRETE

M1,A1 was built years before, it was going during the 20s.

Looks like the bricks are called calsil bricks and as you say well built .
