Nice piece. Especially cool to see chad McQueen. Would love to see more quality productions like this. It really speaks to the essence of Porsche passion.

Awesome video. I wish someone would make videos regularly with Chad McQueen. I'm sure he's a busy guy but I'd love to hear more of his thoughts on all of his cars and cars in general, almost like Jay Leno's Garage. I've read some of his stories in McQueen's Machines but I'd love to just hear all his stories from the past too.

I really hope they keep on driving these awesome cars. Just drive them and don't overestimate what some people would pay you form them.

Buy a 996! I've got a factory spec'd GT3 replica that's worth a lot less than it ought to be, and it looks exactly like this 996 ( tho it's red)..

Oh yeah! I hope next gen GT3 does not go turbocharged. Already now the heritage is partially broken due to that damn gearbox.. But these cars simply represent for me motorsport on the road. Stunning!

+Oonnyyxx80 Don't worry mate, they promised that they will never add a turbocharged engine on the GT3/GT3 RS. Moreover, the stick could be back, at least as an option :)

Sweet Jesu doesn’t the sin look like Steve McQueen. The car that “hooked me was the early 70’s 911 and then the whale tail. I never EVER thought a working class man, such as I, would EVER drive one let alone own one. Long story short, I saved every last penny I could, from age 9 on. From doing paper rounds ( delivering newspapers) to glass collecting in bars and even busking with my harmonica. I then became a salesman, after 7 years of menial construction work & got to sales director but with a company car. It took me 20yeats to save for one but I then didn’t want to spend the money as it took so long to save and it took my fathers death to get me to see that we have just the one life. I bought a millennium edition 911 but with my heart and not my head. I was so shocked to find some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, he,led me to restore the car and cost me 8K GBP when OPC Porsche wanted 16-18 plus VAT ( sales tax). It was violet chromoflair colour, polished turbo rims and had all the turbo toys and GT3 bodykit. I then had a very persistent Aussie want to buy it. It was 538/911 built. I thought he was joking but I then said ok, let’s do it and he took me to his bank and handed me 37K. It’s now in his collection in Australia. I paid 18 plus the 8 so a nice profit from I thought was an irretrievable situation as the car looked great but had lot of small things wrong. Sat nav was booked, drip tray from sun roof ripped out so the cat had 30 pints of water in it. The dash needed to be totally renewed as did the door cards and steering wheel, sourcing these items was very difficult and I scoured the world’s Porsche breakers for many. It had maple trim which cracked in the winter if not garaged and warm. I had to put in all new coil packs, change oil 4 times and also on both diffs. Exhaust needed doing so an upgraded one was fitted but without losing the original look. I a,so remapped it and got an extra 30 bhp. Anyway, sorry for the essay but I then bought a polar silver tiptronic GT2 lookalike turbo 996 but it got stolen and by someone I thought a friend. I then bought a metallic midnight blue turbo S with carbon pack. Had it remapped to 540 bhp and similar in pounds foot of torque. I adored the Car and cared for it like it was my offspring. I now have a 635d M BMW, I know I know, don’t swear. I had no choice as my parents and brothers died and I inherited the family home, which needed 35 years of neglect fixing. I had no choice but to sell the Porsche, to fit new bathroom, kitchen and replace all timber as dry rot and rising damp was deatryinf the house and if I left it any longer then it would only be an auction and speculators house. It’s going on the market in the new year and I will buy a 997.2 turbo S or GTS. I’ve not yet made up my mind. Any advice great,y appreciated I just wanted to share my story to show all of the people who think they could never have one. Keep the dream alive and keep saving, even if it’s just pennies at times. I fucking love Porsche. I adore the marque and have met some of the most lovely people I now have as good friends, via owning one Good luck

i wonder how they got the 996 registered here in the us
@TheLaXandro
@TheLaXandro 8 лет назад
+cargen12 either the normal way, or as a classic car if it's older than 25 years, or as a display car, limited to 1k miles per year.
@cargen12
@cargen12 8 лет назад
+TheLaXandro It's clearly not the 25 year old rule since it's a 996 and I doubt it came as the "show or display" since that requires less than 500 to be made and they made more than 600 996 gt3rs's. It might even just be state titled like alot of rhd supras and 33/34 skylines are.

I wonder the same 996 GT3RS, are not even eligible for show import. I checked a year ago. Ended up getting US 996 GT3 Carrara white

People and even women often overuse the word 'genius' too much or in the wrong places, but if this isn't genius, then I must be overusing it too, maybe. But, consider this: Being Steve McQueen's son and buying a few Porsches and keeping them all together in a barn and then filming Steve McQueen's son driving them, this is something if it's not genius. Men, and women, who say that building a whole car is the clever bit about cars have failed to see this video, or maybe they did see it but have forgotten.
