There are three things that should've happened in this. 1. The animals that McLeach captured in his hideout needed to be freed. 2. What became of Joanna after McLeach fell to his death. 3. Cody reuniting with his mother.
The way McLeach tries to swim away from the waterfall tells me that he isn't a good swimmer. He was screwed anyway. His fate was either the waterfall or the crocodiles.
Agreed with you. Back then movies had individualist them, today it's about ideas like social justices and feminism. Those ideas take away from the true hero's journey and make it difficult to identify with the characters.
If one looks closely at McLeach when he goes over the Crocodile Falls, one can notice that he actually curls into a ball before he disappears into the mist at the bottom. According to many survivalists, curling into a ball is the best way to survive going over a waterfall, as it will minimize the damage taken by the body. If this is anything to go by, it is more than likely that McLeach was able to survive going over the falls even if he was panicking and struggling to escape before going over. However, this cannot be confirmed, as he was never seen again after his plummet.
