I didn't expect this to so deeply upset me. I love these villagers with my whole heart, and seeing the absolute fear and dread on their faces broke my heart. The animation was so well done and the rain really added a real feel to it that is so hard to achieve, bravo. but also you owe me therapy

Okay two things: 1. I love how the villagers look like with their hoods on in the rain, they look mysterious, and Isabelle kinda reminds me of Little Nightmares 2. The reset sequence was great, the music and everything give a sad feel to it, and I didn't realize the DIY recipe was gonna play a part in this either, which was unexpected

Rewatching this after watching part 2; there's an EXTREMELY small detail at 8:35 going on with Isabelle's hairband. It's shifting between green and red, and when Isabelle speaks, it finally settles and turns fully red. That's a type of extremely subtle foreshadowing you RARELY see in independent works like this, that's absolutely incredible

I just noticed something. Mask doesn't have any cranky villagers. This may be me overthinking, but perhaps he doesn't have them because they would have no problem calling him out on his bs themselves. He doesn't like having his power challenged, hence why he just reset the when the villagers finally get the courage to confront him, rather than trying to improve.

It's very impressive how in about a three year deadline, this person could probably make a full high quality animal crossing movie all by themself.

Never would I ever think that an Animal Crossing fan animation of this level would make my heart sink in such fear. It makes you question if it's really okay to alter and erase these characters like this, despite just being models and codes. I feel like if this whole saga ends on such a horrific note like this with no light at the end of the tunnel, it might break me. Just phenomenal work.

My favorite thing about these shorts is how well they explore darker themes without any of the characters ever feeling like they've stopped being animal crossing characters. I always think they're really well done, and this might be my new favorite of them. Fantastic work!

This series has made me seriously re-evaluate how I treat my villagers.

honestly, i think seeing Blathers look at everything in the museum disappear was one of the saddest parts of this, since looking at how he reacts when we donate things and the dialogue he gives, he really does care about the things he has and seeing his slowly built collection just disappear like that, it was devastating

The part that did it for me was Blathers. He saw his beloved museum just vanish. He stood there, knowing there was nothing he could do about it. And Tommy and Tommy. Tommy watched Timmy just fade away, again knowing that there wasn’t anything he could do. (I’m just assuming it was Timmy who was vanishing, as he’s the one I mostly deal with at the Cranny)

this is actually really sad. I’ve never reset my island but watching this made me know to never reset my island.

I love how you interpreted the perspective of the animal crossing characters about everything that happens that the player doesn't see. How the deleted characters get transported to new islands, what the reset looked like, etc. This is freaking amazing and I love it. I never thought an animal crossing animation could make me cry..... but here I am....

Ive been an Animal Crossing fan for so long and have always held the game close to my heart, literally one of my top 3 games of all time. To see the characters have to go through such a thing does paint a painful picture that made me tear up, even if theyre mere codes and binary, but especially seeing the precious Isabelle sad like that... Makes you realize that technically, Tom Nook sees everything even if you reset everything, hes the first and last character you meet.

Love the little detail of Diva not wearing a raincoat like everyone else, since frogs don't use raincoats in game either. Also, the reset sequence was absolutely chilling, everything about it was absolutely incredible. Top notch work as always!

This actually made me cry wow. Pietro saying “I don’t feel so good” then fading away, heartbreaking. And when Isabell went “=o” when shouting Pietro’s name, so cute but devastating at the same time. I absolutely adore this series and I can’t wait to see the finale, amazing work ❤️

Found this, what an incredible series. I REALLY hope it's a situation where that new human in the end is NOT Mask Man, and the animals consciousness is split among all the players, and Tom and Isabel are starting to remember even after they are 'reset' to a different player.

I'm proud to say I still have my original Wild World town with all the original villagers. Same goes for City Folk, New Leaf, and New Horizons. I'm one of those weird people that get attached and won't let go. So glad I never reset any of my towns. I couldn't imagine my villagers fate being this. 😭

i’m not even gonna lie here, i sobbed watching this. Seeing everyone’s homes vanish, seeing Pietro vanish, and everyone accepting their fates, it really got me. Amazing animation.

Man this really hurts in the feels. Knowing each town you reset is destroying countless lives, homes, etc. No wonder why resetti was trying his hardest, not to stop you from resetting your game, but your whole save file because he was the one who really knew what was the cost of restarting your town. I really hope karma comes for Mask… (or at least he has a redemption arc.)

I like the detail of keeping the mask person's face hidden. It really adds to that feeling that there is something wrong behind that mask. It's one of the reasons prison guards wear sunglasses, it's so you can't build a sense of humanity with them, and you pulled it off here amazingly. (EDIT: AND when we finally DO see her face suddenly we can "read" them, and that sense of humanity builds, despite what we know of them)

This level of creativity, the fact you can turn AC into a twisted psychological thriller horror is outstanding. I felt so immersed into this universe that no longer exists and even the music was well constructed. I don't watch alot of short films or other indie projects with filmmaking, but you sir might be one of the first I truly support, bravo for what you and the team have done. It makes sense because it gets you to think a simple question.. what if you are reset to a timeline in AC while remembering all that happened. and to make it such a memorable scene, the devastation that just transpired was perfectly captivated.

I like that you went full existential horror with this series. Animal Crossing always had a bit of a liminal feel that lends itself well to this type of storytelling. But Jesus Christ, this is sad.

Never did I think I’d tear up like this over the clown villager being snapped. But after the last shorts I like pietro and was so sad to see that scene.

I just realised the soundtrack that starts at 6:10 is a variation of Isabelle’s morning announcements theme with a more depressing/disoriented tone. Makes the scene so much more emotional .

There’s no happy ending to Animal Crossing: If you delete your village, every resident gets erased in a red thunderstorm nightmare. If you abandon your village, every resident is trapped forever wondering where their bestfriend went.

This is honestly one of the most important series I’ve seen. The lore is soooo deep

if anyone is confused the reset made everyone well…reset. (because people were actually confused in the live chat) Residents vanished, progress all gone, and core npcs like isabelle were just put back to stage 1 basically and memories were sorta wiped

I love how so much detail plays out throughout the series. Especially the flag. Before the reset, it was the first part of the two ladies and the cat at the table. After the reset, it was the second part. Not entirely sure how important that detail is, but I just love the glimpse of changes in showing the aftermath of the reset. Major hype for the finale!

This series has been one of the best Animal Crossing fan projects I’ve ever seen, the animation and lighting are crazy good and I love how it’s like it could be a mini TV show

I just erased my first island after 300+ hours of playing, and I can't help but feel upset and miss it along with all the memories I accumulated. And the big reset scene here really made that feeling double down on me, but then that dialogue about how no matter how the villager changes, they'll still remember; it was this sad heavy dramatic scene with promise of revenge. But somehow I started thinking of my island I just restarted, and I was like "yeah maybe my little virtual buddies would remember me" And strangely enough it actually made me feel a little better about all the resetting. Looking at that intense island deletion scene just made me wanna find my old residents and give them a hug.

The fact that I have most of these villagers on my island makes this hurt so much more, Roald, Molly, Lolly and until recently Raymond.

i love this take on the game, basically applying Undertale logic to ACNH it highlights how messed up player interaction is with game entities they don’t perceive as “real” and it’s so dramatic densle you’re amazing babe!!

Ive always been fascinated with the whole meta-esque trope of the characters in a video game being legitimate living, breathing beings within their world and their whole dilemma with having to deal with the actions made by a player. Especially when it comes to stuff like resetting a game, something so simple yet in their eyes something so terrifying. I think the act of actively toying with characters in a world, or resetting/deleting a world is far more powerful than those that explore what its like for those in a world that hasn't been played in for a long time. The latter is passively affecting those in a world, but the former is actively toying with the existing world in a sense Amazing animation, its been so long since Ive been truly entranced by an animation Everything is exceptionally well paced and dripping with tension, the way how things cut to and fro different scenes is so chilling, and the concept of resetting in AC is so familiar yet so haunting from a more intimate perspective of the villagers and NPCs themselves. Nooks single light stand in the settings has never felt more unnerving Not to mention the story: even not knowing the everything and just seeing Reset Parts 1 and 2 you can still understand what is going on, but with greater context there is so much more, specially with Masked Boy. They're cold, distant, seemingly mostly in it for the modding perks and their picture-perfect island, and quite dictator-like. Always wearing a mask to strip away one of humanity's most humane traits: faces and emotions. Rarely ever showa any greater emotions either, snickers at the end. The animals dont even know if they have a name either, only calling them by what they can recognise: A gas mask, and the defualt male-oriented haircut Amazing job man,got serious filmmaking skills up your sleeve

As someone who’s never reset an island before, I see this as an absolute win

this video montage is one of the best I've ever seen. how can a fan fiction contain so much audio, script and image as a Netflix movie? I watched ‘In Boxes’ quite a while ago because it popped up on my recommended, but I had no idea it was part of an entire series of shorts, so I started from the very beginning after watching this for the first time. One incredible detail I HAVE to point out is that in one of the previous episodes, we can clearly see that the island’s flag is the half of the meme where two women are yelling ‘at Smudge (the cat), and now, with this ‘new’ (reset) island, the flag is of Smudge’s face. Such a small detail among countless, but absolutely incredible!

The entire sequence from 5:55 up to 8:00 was breathtaking. Your exelent cinematography made the reset seem so grand and apocalyptic. The slow motion showing the imminence of the destruction Also I like how the animal crossing characters just “spawn in” when they get introduced into the story. So Isabelle immediately goes from the reset to the resident services upgrade. That might be why Tom nook expects and understands the reset and the intentions of the player. he gets to experience every single day on the Island. He gets to introduce the player into the world, and can interact with them before they obtain the godly powers that the upgraded nook phone and Resident services gives.

Wow, this short movie made me realize to never overwrite or delete my island! Can not even imagine how my villagers would feel :(

My friend sent me this literally like an hour ago. Holy fuck dude. God tier animation. I'm so glad that I found it now and all I have to wait for is the finale. This is seriously incredible and really thought provoking. I actually this last October deleted my island id had since the release of acnh. I kind of terraformed it in this really horribly unattractive manner and just kind of gave up on it. I felt guilty anyway but now I feel extra guilty deleting it. I'm sorry Isabelle 😞

Damn this miniseries has taken a TURN. Wouldn't have thought it was going in this direction, but I love it. Everything I didn't know I needed in an AC fan animation! I'm a little sad the next episode will be the finale, but it makes the most sense given the direction of the plot (and I'm sure these have been nothing but a pain to make). I've loved this, no AC fan content has, and probably never will, make me feel the same range or level of emotions your animations have. From the Settings Menu set to the reset sequence to the music, it's just *chef's kiss* SUPER excited for the finale!
