Hmmm. Ive gotten great results from Acon and am biased towards it. But even with my bias it’s clear- Waves sounds better.
@whitenoisestudio

yeah it is what it is. I really tried to get the best performance out of both plugins and the waves basically was a bit better everywhere. I did expect the acon to perform better on the female vox.

Clarity pulled down the reverb on the singing well, but the aliasing was really noticeable. It would work in some contexts, but not in many that I face. Still, I'm sure a midway position could be found. Thanks for the comparison. I use Zynaptiq Unveil and Unfilter, and I think I'll stick with those for now. But it is good to see developments in this area.
@whitenoisestudio

It always comes at a cost to de-reverb. Ideally you never want to use a plugin like this.
@ramspencer5492
@ramspencer5492 Год назад
De-reverb is generally more effective and natural in less extreme situations... Like on a vocal recorded in an untreated room. And you don't need to make it sound 100% dry. It's better to make it sound dryish and clean... Rather than degrade the vocal even somewhat and make it sound completely dry.
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio Год назад
Sure. The examples here are to push the plugins and make differences more clear.
@GTSongwriter
@GTSongwriter Год назад
Did you use "Learn" feature in Deverberate? Cause, it tends to work much better when the "Learn" feature has time to learn the reflections.
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio Год назад
I specifically mention with the 3rd example I turned it off because it sounded worse for that one. On the other two examples learn was always used before using any dereverbing, and I toggled between on and off to listen what worked best. I mentioned i used the best settings, and I absolutely made sure I did.

@@whitenoisestudio So, if Waves is the new big shot in reverb removal, better get it at intro price before it goes up forever?
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio Год назад
There will always be a sale right ;-) And unless you specifically need all the extra functions of pro, the basic version will do 70% of the pro. Although the focus curve is handy. But I would demo it first. Maybe the acon is all you need .
@ramspencer5492
@ramspencer5492 Год назад
The currently free Goyo (A.I.) plugin, which also does denoise is an interesting one that might make for a good comparison with the waves plugin. However, you need to be online to use it and it might not always be free. It's in beta. But it does a really good job..... That might mean you have to send the audio to their server.... Which isn't ideal. But it's pretty impressive. I think it might be better than the waves one actually ...
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio Год назад
I have to check that one more in depth, but the few minutes I spend on it was REALLY impressive. It was basically on par with the waves, maybe the waves was able to get a slightly more direct sound. But for something which is now free, it's mindblowing. Could easily be an expensive paid plugin.

I'm looking for a good mouth de-clicker, but I'm stuck on an old mac. OSX 13.13 High Sierra, so many of the AI choices are not an option. I looked at Acon Digital Restoration Suite 2 with it's Declick 2, but still get some poor results. If I get it to remove most of the clicks, it muffles the sound too much, or it sounds digitized. Manually reducing them in Reaper, or Audacity is making voice work torture. Suggestions?
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio 4 месяца назад
I basically always use Izotope's RX mouth declicker - litle complaints here, it just works. Its on every one of my videos. I dont think it has been seriousy updated in a long while, should run on an older mac without issue.
@ZimCrusher
@ZimCrusher 4 месяца назад
@@whitenoisestudio My issue with Izotope is a) the cost. They save all the stuff I need for the Advanced version. b) it does not work with old macs: Mac: macOS Monterey (12.7.2), macOS Ventura (13.6.3), macOS Sonoma (14.2.1)* I mistyped... not Mac OS 13.13 ... I have OS 10.13. Upgrading my OS means I own nothing, and have to start 'renting' all my software. I do not subscriptions.

@@whitenoisestudio Ok so, that was then, and this is now... and I'm considering Clarity VX Dereverb Pro 😄 don't ask 😄 but I own iZotope's RX10 advanced de-reverb And so I have a question... could you make a comparison between those two? It would help me make the decision whether to stay with RX10 or buy Clarity VX Dereverb.

Interesting that you kept the Reverb portion switched off at all times on the Acon unit. I find taking out only a few dB more effective.

@@whitenoisestudio In my case I‘ll usually try to keep the artifacts away, so some good background noise is ok for my stuff, which is reports, audio books, production dialogue, podcasts and ADR. I‘ll certainly be checking out the Clarity DeReverb units. It can probably deal with some situations a little better. One plugin you may or may not have tried is a classic Cedar-style noise suppressor, Bertom Denoiser. It has a free version and a paid one. Very effective when you need a zero-latency(I.e. live) very-low CPU denoiser, and don’t want to spend a couple of thousand on the Cedar plugin.
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio Год назад
Yeah use cases really can differ. Ideally you dont even want use dereverb and denoising at all. It will all degrade the audio to an extend, we're not talking about making something great but less terrible ;-) I can also suggest the GOYO dereveb / denoiser. Its in beta and I don't know the exact in and outs of it, but in the few minutes i tinkered with it looks like its really good. And free right now.
@AironExTv
@AironExTv Год назад
@@whitenoisestudio Gave it a try. It's an offline-only thing for me, since it munches up a smidgen over half a CPU core on my 5950x for one channel of audio. Great quality though. About 2.5x of what the Acon combo needs, but you can't beat free :) .

Nice video. I wanna find a plugin to reduce the early reflections/verb when recording acoustic guitar in my untreated room. Do you think that this plugin will be effective?
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio 11 месяцев назад
Yes it will reduce that. But plugins like this are to fix issues, and always will degrade audio in way or the other. It’s all about making reverby audio more acceptable.

Yeah, that app is not a workflow that many potential users want to use. I dunno about trust. Isn't it about forgiveness and second chances?
@jupiterman7
@jupiterman7 Год назад
@@whitenoisestudio it is true it's a bit more if a workaround but sounds so much better to my ear... What is it they say about second chances??? I've used waves for over 20 years and I could deal with the wup nonsense but they just went to far... I've been finding better alternatives for most of my plugins for a while. There are still a few I'm finding hard to replace, but I'm on a mission to remove them from my workflow. 👍
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio Год назад
Yeah same. WUP is weird. I think wup comes too soon with that 1 year after buying a plugin. You don't have to use it of course. Most of the time, the plugins, at least on pc, keep working fine for many, many years. I have still some v11's running and it's on v14 now. But what surprises me is that it is accepted that a company stops development and support for a plugin and releases version 2 or v3 and so on and people happily pay for that. While paying support for a plugin that is still working after many years is frowned upon.
