Something about watching Charles just captivates me, he really transcends the sport. I think the UFC didn't really know what do to with him when he beat Chandler but now he's morphed into one of their biggest stars.
@riseofazrael
@riseofazrael 11 месяцев назад
Even without knowing his story the way he fights makes you a fan. He is a true kill or be killed type of fighter, 44 pro fights and has only gone to decision 4 times. He fights with a lot of pressure and is very aggressive, always marching forwards throwing strikes. He's also active on the ground with great scrambles and always looking for subs from all positions. He's just very entertaining to watch. He's incredibly rough upbringing is actually crazy and just makes his accomplishments even more impressive.

He doesn’t transcend anything. Why do people overestimate Charles’ reach so much, it’s so cringe. It’s like some rite of passage to not be a casual. There’s a reason this video has 10% of the guys normal video views

Oliveira is my guy. There will never be a guy like him in the sport again. I think he will win the rematch, people seem to overlook that Oliveira had just got LASIK eye surgery and he has gone his entire life without being able to see properly because of his terrible vision. I can imagine being able to suddenly see properly would completely mess with your instincts you’ve built over years of training.

Position grappling > Submission grappling, Islam is just a bad stylistic matchup that probably wins that fight at least 8/10 times
@mattisbette3932
@mattisbette3932 11 месяцев назад
@@SupremeSuperiorStickI don't think the grappling was what won the fight at all. Islam fought a really smart fight staying pretty safe all the time. He didn't go for a lot of ground and pound, which meant less damage to Charles but it made it easier to avoid the submission threads of Charles. He even completely disengaged from the ground when Charles inverted into the legs because he doesn't seem confident to engage in the leg lock game with Charles. And he did the same thing in the striking department. He didn't took to many risks and waited for the opportunity to counter Charles. He didn't even attack the standard single or double legs to avoid Charles Guillotine. And when Charles opened himself up for such a counter with the big flying knee without any set up he caught him clean. If Charles wants to win the second fight he needs to find a way to pressure Islam on the feet while avoiding big counter shots. On the ground he was capable of negating much of Islams ground and pound with submission attempts and had good moments himself with the leg attack and the inversion into the legs. The only thing I'd change as him on his back is to attack more sweeps because I believe his top game is better then Islams bottom game.

Even If he loses to Islam In their rematch. Charles has still accomplished so much and still considered one of the greats. -He ended Beneils 8 fight winning streak. -One of the best Brazilian title holders In UFC history. Up there with names like Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Glover Texeira, etc. -Most submission wins In UFC history at 16. -Most finishes In UFC history at 20. -Holds the record in the lightweight division for the shortest average fight time of 5 minutes and 54 seconds. -Fought and beat killers like Poirer and Gaethje, both former Interim champs. And beat both of them faster than Khabib. Charles Is undoubtedly one of the greatest Lightweights In UFC History, In my opinion. And the dudes story Is absolutely Insane, I'll be rooting for him In his fight against Islam. The champion has a name, and It's Charles Oliveira brader!

It’s only very recently that the UFC have started to realize that throwing these young fighters with tonnes of promise int9 the deep end right away is not the way to go. They need some time to adjust to so many things. I’m not saying they need to feed them cans, but they need to give them time to mature as people and adjust to the level of competition. They’re really not doing extremely talented and young fighters any good by throwing them in too deep too soon.

@@jaredwood8163 It wouldn't prove he's better than Islam actually, since they'd be 1-1 with each other, and Islam dominated him in the first encounter. At best, he'd only be the better fighter on that night. Khabib will always be the greatest Lightweight of all time and the best until Islam can break the defense record, or Charles can get 3 defenses on his second reign. But considering how competitive Lightweight is, Charles' age and the fact Volk is a looming presence from 145, its unlikely Charles ever surpasses Khabib; he's lost too many times. Its more likely Islam does, because he has youth on his side, he's still 31 after all.

weird comment to make here i know - but wouldn't be nice if they structured the fight clock where the fighter having rocked the opponent or about to submit the opponent with seconds remaining in the round.. was gifted extra time on the clock to complete the KO or submission instead of the round buzzer saving the downed fighter. i believe many fights in the past would have different outcomes. but i get it they train for 3 or 5 rounds. be interesting though, just a random thought...
