The Detroit Lions have always been one of the worst teams in the NFL and things seemed to only get worse with their mishandling of Matthew Stafford and the Matt Patricia debacle among other things. But then everything changed after the 2020 NFL season when Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes came to Detroit and all of a sudden, the Lions were alive. So join me as we go back in time to see how the Detroit Lions got to where they are today, and if finally, the Lions have escaped their own curse forever. Tubfrog overlooked the key hire for this turn around. After Quintrica was fired Shelia’s 1st move in that offseason was hiring former Lions LB Chris Spielman as Vice President. Chris is the reason Dan and Brad got hired. He doesn’t get a lot of praise but he’s behind the scenes overlooking and advising on all the football decisions being made.

Always liked Chris Spielman. Hell of a football player.. I loved it when he signed free agency in the mid 90's for my Buffalo Bills. I asked my parents for a Spielman jersey that year and I still own it. I had no idea he was still "In Football". Glad he's returned to his original team. He was one of their best players, offensive or defensive, during his early 90's prime.

My two favorite nfl teams are the Cleveland browns and the Detroit lions. I was born in 2001. My history of watching the nfl has been FILLED with pain. Recently I've been been very happy, to say the least. Still wish the browns kept mayfield though...

I remember going to a lions game the year after Calvin’s retirement and some guy in front of me holding up a sign that said “we traded our Johnson for a cooter”. There was also an old Italian dude sitting right next to me smoking a cigar right there in the stands. Love my Lions.

1:01:55 Just a quick note on Jack Campbell’s disappointing 2023 season - for what it’s worth, he’s been completely out of position all year. He’s been playing at Will or Sam for most of the year, but in the one game (versus the Saints) that they gave him free reins at Mike he had his best game with 9 tackles, 2 for a loss. The expectation is that he’s going to take a big step forward once he gets the MLB spot full time, so I wouldn’t call him a miss yet.

Lions fan here, I actually still love Josh Reynolds. The dude puts it all out on the feild every play. He had 2 big drops in the game but even Saint Brown had a bad drop. Reynolds is a good player and im excited to see us next season. Go Lions! One Pride!

Reynolds is one of the main reasons we won our first 2 playoff games, and he was one of the most clutch players in the regular season too. If you watch the NFL Jared Goff highlight video Reynolds shows up constantly. He got the yips at the worst time, but so did Gibbs. So did Vildor. The whole defense couldn’t tackle. Mistakes are contagious

@@stevegreen7706 The whole city wanted the fords to sell off the team before Sheila took over. You can blame bad presidents, GM's, coaches and assistants. Nothing they did with them at the top worked out well for the team. Sheila in control brought Spielman who brought in DC/BH, promoted BJ and the actual trickle down of the team rebuild. It all started with the change of control at the top.

I think a lot of what the Lions became was typifieid partially by Lincoln's comments about calls to dismiss Grant: "I cannot spare this man. He fights." Even at the start of Campbell and Holme's tenure, players were fighting. Eventually, they broke through. And that's how winning is done.

I lived this nightmare as a man who was born and raised in Detroit. It was just as bad or worse than how he describes it. It was a Christmas Miracle getting Holmes Campbell and Johnson in as coaches/GM. It is a drastic turnaround and I relish every minute of it..

This was a good rundown of what a Detroit fan (myself) felt. The Championship game was devastating and I feel like the Lions were the better team, but it didn't feel like the Same Old Lions losing. It felt like it was another lesson this team needed to learn. It will be fuel for the years to come. And I'm so for it.

Biggest turning point in Lions turn around was transfer of ownership to Sheila Hamp. She put QuinTricia on a short leash, fired them after another national embarrassment on Thanksgiving, interviewed Chris Spielman 1st for GM, then brought him on as an executive assistant after he declined the position. That led to Brad, Dan, and all coaches, players, and games that followed.💪🦁💙

If the Lions have half as good of a draft that they have had the last 3 seasons since Holmes took over they are going to be a very dangerous team. This is the 1st draft ever that the Lions can draft whoever they want. Sure there are positions that need improvement but there are no positions of absolute need. With Holmes track record so far, I'm very optimistic about the upcoming draft for the Lions. The fact that Ben Johnson decided to stick around instead of getting a promotion with a hefty raise somewhere else shows that as someone who is on the inside he sees something special brewing with his decision to stay.

i used to have a beat writer for detroit come to my gas station to buy cigs and he told me when Patricia came in he immediately tried to divide himself from everyone. He got rid of pretty much every single thing that players and/or media could do for fun. They used to play pick up basketball a lot and he instantly put a stop to it. Some points that makes this Lions team very different is not only are they set up to win, this team is HUNGRY to get back out there and finish the job! Their off-season personal fitness and showing at the optional OTAs are great signs that this team can't wait to avenge some losses last year, and the NFL knows this by setting up Key games in this years schedule.
