I've got a similar story to yours (getting a 2000 in the late 90s) and sometimes you've just got to listen to your heart when you buy certain pieces of gear. I’m still using my MPC X SE and I love how it sounds and the workflow with it is unbeatable. I’ve tried many many samplers and even other vintage MPCs I would never trade my MPC X SE for any of them.

I love the live II and can't stand to keep it stationary. once I have everything plugged in, I can't stand to want to move it around. I finally got AMS to ship my X SE. So now I can really use my live II how I want to. I love the idea of the MPC being the brains of my music operation, so once my centerpiece somes in it's over with. I've been dying to buy an X, and all Akai had to do was drop this. Easy money from me.

2gb might not seem substantial spec bump but it actually is. It's 100% increase, double the ram of the previous. If it was only 25% increase, than sure.. you could say that. But being double the previous model is very significant.

Yup. Dope video and I love the intro. I purchased a MPC 60 for $5000 in 1989. Hip Hop heads marveled at it then. The SP12 was the king of the hill and the shear look of the 60 with the large screen (at the time) amazed people. It also just looked intimidating. .On top of that, the i/o in the back made it a breeze for connectivity at home and in the studio. It also generated SMPTE for stripping tapes. You young cats have no idea what that is, but it ate up time and budget doing this. It paid off for me because I shortly made my first record with Interscope Records. That was cool, but my favorite memories is dragging my MPC to Chung King Studios to work with Leaders of the New School on Elektra Records. If you think Busta Rhymes is a ball of energy on record, imagine him in person! In the years of the Golden Era of Hip Hop, We had to actually lay down tracks to physical tape. You pressed record on the tape and play on your MPC. My recent releases are all done on computer. I miss the sessions where I bought my 60 or 3000. It's wiild. I made a record recently where the artists didn't even meet to make it. Three years later and they still haven't! Soon after the Leaders record I bought an MPC 3000. That is still my favorite MPC. There is something about the sound I can't explain, but that 3000 pumped out some super punchy kick drums and did magic of samples recorded into it! On top of that, it was truly stand alone. No way to connect it to a PC and no disk drive bay. You could get a memory upgrade. This forced you to be more creative due to less resources. I was a loop sample producer then. My production has evolved to more chop orientated. Meaning, I use LESS of the MPC memory NOW. Currently I own 4 MPC's. I have the original MPC 60 I purchased in 89, MPC 3000, Ren and Live II (that I caught on a crazy deal for $600 new!) As far as the new one goes, it is dope, but not jumping off the ledge as an owner of 4. Knowing me, I will probably get it down the line. I see the value of it as a studio center piece, but that Live has taught me to value the grab and go portability of a smaller unit. I mean, built in speakers too??? I can literally sit in the park and watch ladies as I make beats or take it on a long flight my next trip to Dubai!

Awesome biography. It’s awesome to share your journey. All that you said makes since. This is coming from a guy who up to five years ago was anti MPC. I’ve had every groove box but this one. When the limited edition of the 3000 came out I was upset that SamAsh in Jersey sold out. So I went with Roland. My first MPC wasn’t even a 2000. When the MPC live came out it sparked my interest. I’ve became a fan of the MPK controllers and used it with a program called BPM from Motu. Fast forward to now. Most of my equipment is AKai. I have the Retro Live 2 and a live. I also have a Force which is Killer. I have all the plug-ins so now it’s either the keys 🎹 or SEX. 🤔🤔😂😂😂
