I'm amazed you didn't think this stuff was good enough for the main channel. Just watching you messing about wherever in the world is always a good laugh.
@Benghali In Platforms agree 100%! We will watch and love literally anything. We love themselves more then their content and they don’t seem to get that.
If you are a likeable person people will watch whatever you upload it is about the person not the content. Look at Drew Binsky, he puts much more effort and editing into his videos but they are normally watched less than Bald's
@@ytcensorship1401 I wish he'd just upload unedited videos like Harald does. Average Max length for a bald video is 20 mins. Harald's can be anything up to 45-60 mins long. Take the Mexico trip as an example. You got to see so much more of what happened on that trip from Harald's videos
Such wooden houses with stone stairway at 2:39 are not Soviet, but typical "Tallinn house" from 1920s-30s. The wooden houses without the stone stairway are likely older than that, from the beginning of 1900s.
@@NotAShawn Please do keep in mind Estonia became independent about the same time as the tsar fell. So this is not even soviet architecture. I live in one of these houses and it has nothing in common with soviet blocks.
Hahaha! Funny! Only one thing: in Baltics it is more polite to start conversation in English than Russian (just for the sad past). Many people younger than 40 years old have no glue about Russian language anymore (especially in Lithuania). Hope to see u there soon!!!
have been wondering when you will reach my homeland! Some of the most soviet places are Lasnamägi (a part of Tallinn) and small towns in Ida-Viru County, especially Sillamägi. (I wouldn`t recommend calling estonian women babushkas though :))
00:13 As a german speaking viewer I was asthonished to see the add with "Drahtesel" which is an old saying for a bycicle here. It means, if u take it literally "wired-donkey" :D
Learn something every day. Tondi has a population of 3852 It also has a sports centre. The Tallinn-Paldiski railway passes Tondi on its eastern side. See Bald, in five minutes you showed me something new. Thank you.
@@eksiarvamus language spoken natively by about half of the city's population is de facto a local one. And Russian speaking Tallinners (youth) mostly are not immigrants, they were born in Estonia.
@@rasmusseninvincible7563 So what if they were born in Estonia (in fact many weren't) - they were imported here illegally during the Soviet occupation. They will forever remain an immigrant community.
That's very funny that couple of years ago I was in Tallinn and took an old tram to nowhere just like Bald did. I was there in summer time and the city was packed with tourists, at least the Old Town. And actually I quite enjoyed it. Excellent restaurants, nice people, beautiful medieval architecture. Tallinn is a great european destination, so please don't be fooled by Bald's funny video )))
Tondi was kind of industrial area in the soviet time. But if you go over the railway and turn to right then you would see nice residential area, its called Kristiine.
Most Estonians don’t speak Russian, you’re much better off with English :) If you want a Russian and Soviet vibe check out Lasnamäe! Not much to do there but you always manage to find something interesting locals take for granted :) Another thing that a lot of people are doing right now is winter swimming. If you go to port Noblessner you can get a real Estonian experience and take a dip (everyday there are people swimming there, join them!). At the same port is an ex military base and a ship that is turned into a museum (ask a local and they can point you in the right direction) Edit: there is no place to change clothes at Noblessner (most people who swim there go with car) so maybe try going to Pirita beach instead, while you’re in Pirita, there is a monument in Pirita sailing port from the 1980 Moscow Olympics that you can check out. If winter swimming isn’t your thing you can try cross country in Pirita or Nõmme. Rentals are really cheap and it’s a true estonian experience
@Jake Johansson No Russian isn’t easier to understand for us by any means. Estonian isn’t similar to Russian at all, Estonian is a Finnic-urgic language that is from an entirely different family and we don’t even have Russian loan words for the most part, but 1/3 of our vocabulary are German loan words. As a tourist you are better off with English here, especially in Tallinn, it is much more comfortable for Estonians to speak English.
@Jake Johansson and I love bald, he can do whatever he wants and speak Russian if he feels like it, this is just a tip saying that most of us Estonians don’t speak Russian so it won’t get him too far :D
@Jake Johansson My Russian vocabulary consists of spaciba and babooshka. I know fluent German and English but zero russian, I have never taken a Russian class or ever needed it. My family also doesn’t speak any Russian but they speak Finnish and English. Very strange to try to tell someone what languages they themselves can speak :D In the original comment I recommended Lasnamäe, where he can find that 30% Russian speaking minority group and enjoy all the Russian and Soviet vibes :)
@Jake Johansson No actually, someone who took a language class in the 30-50 years ago doesn’t necessary still speak that language, sure they can understand more than younger generations but still it’s only basic phrases and not enough to even put on a resume today when applying for a job. If tested today maybe would achieve an A1-A2 level which isn’t speaking a language. If you write that you are an A1 in a language on a CV, the person hiring would laugh
@Jake Johansson yes I know what you are trying to get at, but it isn’t quite applicable here. I think knowing multiple languages is a wonderful thing :) I would be happy to speak Russian. Unfortunately, that isn’t that case. Most Estonians speak fluent English and really suck at speaking Russian. Ask any ethnic Russian here, they’ll also say Estonians suck at speaking Russian. Although it’s an awesome language, it just isn’t the most practical or efficient way to get around Estonia today. This was just a travel tip, not a political statement.
I appreciate that you keep pushing yourself over the edge and do it anyways, i couldn't imagine walking down a tram with a cam in my face talking to myself either. But that somewhat mundane stuff is what allways made your content so intriguing. When will i ever get to experience some backalley in India or a tram ride in Tallinn? Exactly. As i love traveling and get excited finding interesting stuff too, this is as entertaining to watch as allways. Thanks Ben! Never change.
When I visited, most of the Estonians I met spoke English too. I tried ordering an õunasai in Estonian but my pronunciation was so bad that the vanaema didn't understand lol
@@derkonig162 Only the old generation speaks Russian here. Estonian is the national language, the second most common language is English, not Russian. Get over it
Thank you Bald for the Videos from Estonia 🇪🇪 I never thought about to visit Estonia. But the country looks beautiful. I hope after the COVID, I can visit this country. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

You should go to Paterei prison, which is right next to linahall. I love seeing Tallinn in these vlogs I studied there for half a year. Speaking russian in Estonia is not making you any friends though.
Being able to speak multiple languages and being able to pick up on what u don’t speak must help so so much on your travels. Great videos brother love the history parts...
Any extra content is good content Mr Bald! Just helps us all get by, between your next upload. I'm sure I'm not the only one who could watch hours of your everyday adventures, some more alcohol tasting is a must! Having a drink with the locals is always entertaining 👍👍
"That train passing through is the most interesting thing to happen in Tondi today" - No sir, you showing up is the most interesting thing to happen to Tondi that day
I had too many Beers once in San Diego, California with a friend in the merchant marine, and got on a trolley (tram) and went in the wrong direction. Went to the end of the line and finally realized my mistake, got on one to the right direction (south to Chula Vista. Got to see the whole line.
Hahaha. Also referred to as Chulajuana. I was there for business once an a local told us to leave, and now. And which we obliged immediately. Not a safe place for an outsider.
@@muzaaaaak I suppose this was between 30 plus years ago, at the time I didn't feel un safe. The plus side for me , I am 6'3" tall and grew up moving 55 gal. oil drums around, so people ( even now at age 66 ) tend to be deferential , and don't even try to be intimidating. I have a rather stoical presence, I guess.
The train was exciting! In England it would have been replaced by a bus replacement service, which would have been cancelled because of the snow! So you are a lucky man to see that train! 😂
You have a very good channel I've watched, good humor and life experiences! These wooden houses are from the time of the first republic. During the Soviet era, panel houses and other rubbish were built. Estonia was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1918-1919 1940-1941 1944-1991 About 40,000 people were deported to Siberia. The Russians themselves called it "liberation." Land, forests and farms were taken away and people were sent to Siberia, Gulag camps (well-to-do farms and landlords-checkers were people in their village who were not doing well) The grandfather was a blacksmith who was deported to the Irkutsk prison camp, sentenced to 10 plus 5 years, after 9 years he was shot. The farm was in good condition and there was nothing missing. He was accused of "undermining Soviet power". There is no family in Estonia who has not been exposed to it. It was a bad-very bad time! If you have time, I suggest exploring "singing revolution" and "night song festivals" It is said that the Estonian sang himself free.
Snow, snow, and more snow . Neat to see for me, as a citizen of the USA, in SE Georgia ,,which has weather like NE Florida. I do love to see the snow !
There is so much more going on in Tallinn! Why not visit telliskivi or kadriorg or old town bastions? Tondi is just a housing and school district, gives a bad impression of such a lovely city!
I grow up in Tondi, there are actually lot`s of soviet history, mainly the old sovied barracks, wich we used to play when they were abandoned, now quite repaired, write me up if you still in Estonia
I used to live near Tondi stop :D It's actually quite nice if you venture into the smaller streets. The area right next to the stop itself is indeed quite ugly, though.
yo welcome to my hood! yeah there's not much going on in tondi, it's a quiet and peaceful district of private residences (it kinda has a suburb vibe). quite an old one actually, i live in a house built in 45 by my granddad who just had come back from the war. funny you were so close to my home
The best retro tram I have ever seen (and ride) was in Wolgograd. Finest soviet ingenieur-work and without ticket machines, but with babushkas in the tram selling tickets.
Do not forget that your are in e-Stonia! Lots of stuff are more modern than in Paris or London :-) especially at Tallinn. So for the next tramusage , check the special box where you may use Countactless Debit / Credit card for a trip ....
Btw next time take the orange train from Balti Jam station (or Tondi where you saw one) and stop at Nomme . Then go until beautiful Nomme Market / Turg . Then go to the bridge close to statue of district founder: mister Von Glein ... you will have great view to this part of Tallin ,Including Baltic sea
So while watching this video, I googled Estonia Tondi.... on its wikipedia page I find this: "In February 2021, travel vlogger and RU-vid creator Bald and Bankrupt visited Tondi in an episode of Daily Bald, for his secondary RU-vid channel, in an attempt to find something interesting to do there, having previously insulted it. He found The famous rock of Tondi." LOL Fantastic!! I now move onto the second video about Tondi. Can't wait to see the rock!!!
Both trams 3 and 4 end in Tondi, but they run only the modern trams on line 4 because its other terminus is the airport...looks better to tourists I suppose, but doesn't have the nice retro wooden feeling. :)
