The Return of Steam to the Karoo: Farrail's 2023 South African Tour 

After a hiatus of more than 30 years, steam made its triumphant return to the Karoo!
In late June of 2023, Farrail achieved the impossible: steaming a class 25NC for a week long tour on both the Douglas branchline and Kimberley to Bloemfontein line.
This momentous event also marked the first-ever journey of a mighty class 25NC locomotive to Douglas since the line was upgraded from light to heavy track.
In part 1, we see class 25NC, No. 3437, accompanied by its distinctive 'worshond' tender, steaming along the Belmont to Douglas branch on the 26th of June 2023 and returning a day later.
This achievement is truly remarkable and is credit is due to Farrail, the New Cape Central Railway and all other stakeholders involved. Despite facing numerous objections and obstacles, this once-impossible tour has been successfully accomplished.
