Ok here we go. Call me crazy but I loved the original Who's afraid #1 painting. There was something about the dimention of the work in relation to the lines that were on it. For some reason it felt perfect to me. The restoration was so bad I was shocked. The colours were totally off, i mean seriously bad. It is no longer what it was. It wasent just a single red, there were multiple layers to make it that specific coulor red. All i have to say. And most of what the guy is saying is total BS btw.
I like abstraction too and was quite curious to see it. I honestly see why this artwork could have been destroyed now. lol! Maybe its the scale? Hmm, I'd have to see it in person.
What I've learned about art pieces like this, is that they say more about the person doing the critiquing that the artist. There are two ways you can look at works of art like this, and it varies depending upon the amount of empathy you have. Low empathy people say, "Its unbelievable enough to me that people can worship oversized 3 pixel paintings, but what I really cannot grasp is that so much money was spent for its 'restauration', its no less absurd then repainting a room for 1 million dollar. So many centuries of pure perfection in art, so many incredible masterpieces that exist, and yet modern man should somehow think that this is the pinnacle of art...." They criticize the pieces supposed "simplicity".... but that's because that's all they see. They can't see beyond their own eyes. High empathy people, see another dimension. They see beyond their own eyes. They put themselves in the position of other people, including the artist. They see more than just from a single pair of eyes. And from that perspective they see more depth. More meaning. You cannot describe the beauty and value of these works to low empathy people. They are incapable of seeing beyond their own eyes.

I say its the pinnacle of insanity!
Indeed.....although we must watch out for rejecting art the way the nazis did, but this is cubist art gone haywire....some of those museum directors are total loonies who got their cushy job to keep them from the dole......Amsterdam is known for dumping money down her canals, and reluctantly tries to be a functioning city that doesn't heavily depend on national handouts....One might as well sit in front of a painted wall and "discover one's place in the universe"......a lot cheaper too......Some people manage to discover the universe by reading scientific literature or watch documentaries......but that's a bit too taxing for lots of of Amsterdam's inhabitants.....
Пётр В I can definitely understand why you would thinks so. And I also agree that there were better masterpieces in the past, but it depends from person to person. I don't like Barnett Newman's other pieces but "who's afraid of Red, Yellow and blue 3" spoke to me and I feel calm while looking at it. So it's all subjective. One piece could speak to you but then it could look like trash to me. But I understand your perspective on the art.
@@maisieknight4729 Yeah, good art brings up emotions, feelings,... But does this criteria alone qualify art or the artist as good? Fast forward a couple of years and I'm not so stirred anymore. It's just the game of life 😅
First time I heard about this and thought it was a joke. How can this be seen as art? You can see the same when going to a paint shop. Embarrassing... Newman must have been laughing when he saw this becoming popular.
Weird question, but who are you to decide what isn't art? What gives you the divine authority to decide what is and isn't art? How would you even go about creating a set of rules for what counts as art and what doesn't?
Sir I respect your view on the art, but I would appreciate it if I could give you information about the pieces. It is impossible to go into a paint shop and find the pieces as the colors are made from special combinations of different ingredients. This makes it impossible to replicate. After Newman's art was slashed (this happened several times) the artist in charge of repainting the art just could not find the combinations. I do understand your view sir, but it depends. One art piece could speak to me and mean something while another could do the same to you. Everyone has different views on art and feel different emotions. Thank you for reading my thoughts.
