Shot over 4 years ago, and my last UK session before leaving for Australia... Can I get a Pike from Cheddar Reservoir?! After the last sessions top result I just had to have one more pop at Cheddar Reservoir.
My PB (28lbs) was on a similar day pure blue sky, flat calm and around 2pm... (24th Feb 2013) I had just gone through the whole season with precious little to show for it, apart from a sprinkling of jacks, despite being out every single weekend... 10 years on and at 65y.o. times startin to run out for a 30... 😢 BTW... I ALWAYS pop up my deads like that... I use the ball from a Guinness can as a float... I have plenty of spares too ... 😏😂🍺🍺🍺🍺 I jumped when that fish rocketed away... 😂 Tight lines, mate...🤗 😎👍☘️🍺
Lovely fish you had on mate! I’ll be fishing the Cheddar Reservoir for 2 weeks in October, first time fishing it and aiming to catch my first pike there! Is there any kind advice you could share in terms of rigs, lures that would work best in October in this reservoir? Would appreciate it a lot!
@@bogdanpopa9431thank you for the comment, that pike was a cracker 😉 popped up baits is the biggest bit of advice i can give, that and keep moving/casting. if you can get a bait above the weed and Infront of a pike you're defo in with a chance. out of interest are you going to fish from the bank or a boat? best of luck!
@@jakewilliamson Thanks a lot for the advice, really appreciate it! I will be fishing from the bank, will need to get a big landing net as well for the pike! Do you know any spot where one can get tackle and bait(worms, maggots, etc) around the area?
@@bogdanpopa9431 i was based in Bristol at the time i fished cheddar but i bet there are local tackle shops. tbh i always bought my baits fresh at supermarket fish counters. i think sardines and herrings would do you well. sardines were always a favourite for me as when frozen they're buoyant meaning they'll pop up over the weed on the first cast. and never overlook asian fish sauce! stinks to high heaven but pike home in on it 😉
@@jakewilliamson Oh man these are golden tips, thanks a lot, will take you up on the fish sauce!🎣One last question, does the landing net really need to over 40 inch? I have a 30 inch one and I don’t see why not I couldn’t land a pike with it
@@bogdanpopa9431 tbh i've come to realise that the size of the next isn't as important as the material. a rubberised net with good size holes makes it so much easier to unhook the fish and i'm convinced that most of the damage to pike comes from them thrashing around in a mesh net where multiple trebles get caught in the weave. golden rules: get the pike hooked quickly, keep out of the water time to a minimum and let it rest before releasing. despite their ferocious looks, they're incredibly fragile!
