It's insane how Samaritan underestimated Root. Over 7000 simulations and they didn't predict how Root would react once Shaw would turn against her! And now Shaw knows how crazy Root is about her ❤❤
I think that Root managing - as always - to a) be more dramatic and b) cutely annoy the crap out of Shaw was actually the moment Shaw started to believe that it wasn't a simulation. Love + chicken game + irritation + letting her get away with it = knockout combo.
It's so interesting that over 7000 simulations Shaw never expected Root will react like this - to play chicken to stop Shaw killing herself, Root can always surprise her. lol
Well, the simulations were programmed by Samaritan. Sure, it used some of Shaw's input, but the details were Samaritan's. That simulation where John was about as animated as a board was hilarious. He literally only moved once in the entire scene.
Well, Root & Shaw had some time of their own - a week at least (between episodes 5x09 and 5x10). Unfortunately It wasn't shown, but it is clear out of the context. So, I'm pretty sure they had opportunity to express feelings without guns
@@schrodingerscatcangofuckhi5843 and so do we all. I am still sooooooo annoyed they wasted all that time in the last season on procedural crap because CBS insisted. That wedding episode was a complete waste, as was that time they spent running around after that stupid gang in the police station, and so on and so on. I wish they were able to concentrate on the main story arc - yes, maybe with numbers, but only relevant to that main story and the development of our characters. Because yes, we could have seen more of Root and Shaw. And if Root was gearing up for some big sacrifice thing due to low odds of everyone's survival, maybe some of the process that she decided that being just a "shape" was cool would have been nice to explore. Even so, I think it was a cop-out that Root was a sacrifice , even if they had originally intended it. They didn't intend to develop the relationship with Shaw, but it happened nonetheless (thank god). With all of Harold's hubris, distrust and mistakes, I think HE should have been the sacrifice to allow the Machine to be an "adult". And you know, he and John could have gone out together.
Think of how damaged Shaw is at this point. Nothing was able to break her as badly as Samaritan did, and you can tell Root is hurt and shocked by that. She would rather kill herself that hurt any of her friends, especially Root. I love Root's smile when Shaw says she was always the one person she refused to kill. Over 7000 simulations could not get her to do so. If that doesn't signify love and loyalty, I don't know what does.
Shaw hissing "Dammit, Root!" is like anyone else's angelic choir declaring eternal passion for their beloved, with cascades of rainbows and doves, to the tune of "My Heart Will Go On" mashed up with "I Will Always Love You" ...
I dont know why, or I know but, anyway, I love those two too much! Too freaking much! After them I dont need any other couple to ever appear on tv or movie screen at all! Shaw and Root are the best and I truly regret not watching POI when it was originally broadcasted, but I guess its never too late! now I m grateful to this corona time coz it introduced me to the most wonderful couple that ever existed! And I m thankful to Shahi and Acker for breathing life into them and trying their best to show what true camaraderie, attraction and in the end, love, is!
She (the machine) brought u back to me, that was the deal, the machine would give Root, Shaw back, and in exchange she would fake her death forcing Harold to act destroy Samaritan and re upload a free machine. I love how Shaw said it’s complicated, and Root said explain it to me. Then she said she escaped a week ago, and before Root why she didn’t come back to her, she said that she didn’t come find Root because it wasn’t safe.
Can't believe Root died literally the end of the world they built up this long story of flirting and crap and they only get to kiss and then reunited and you think they are gonna live forever in love and then she dies saving Harold. Why? R.I.P Coco Puffs 😭😭

Remember 3x06, Root and Shaw first mission, when they waited "the next day" to give the package to the FBI? in some episode from season 4, with Tomás, the thief from Spain, Root said to Shaw "He's hot. I mean, not 'hood and zip ties in a CIA safe house with ten hours to kill' hot but...", enough time to make it (and Amy Acker reveal that some writters told her to act as if they had sex).
I'm a big time Shaw fan. so many times Shaw steales the scene. Not this time Amy Akers as Root is BRILLIANT!! in this scene!! out smarting Samaritan and Shaw! Root literally saves Shaws life!! in this scene.
The reason for why always struck me as very dumb. But it seems that they wrote a character that evolved into something they weren’t prepared to deal with so in order for her death to make any thematic sense, they had to act like all that development never happened. Shaw, caring for others, value of life, not “wanting to transcend” (I found this ridiculously stupid since what happens in the show admits plainly this is not anything close to transcendence), finally, reforming herself to be the “bad code” she saw and the machine gave her that. For her to die like that cuts that all off and she isn’t the only one that gets treatment like that,
