The Revolt of 1857 was the political, social and it was the result of economic exploitation. After revolt, British were quick to learn that an oraganized action pose a serious threat to the existence of British rule in India. This rebellion gave a strong blow to the British concerns, due to which the British made extensive changes in their policies 1. Administrative change- 🔸The Act for Better Government of India, 1858 transferred the power to govern from EIC to British Crown. 🔸The rights of indian rulers were recognised. 🔸The Doctrine of lapse was abolished. 2.Changes in the Army- 🔸Policy of divide and rule. 🔸No Indian were allowed in the officer rank, highest rank for Indian being Subedar. 🔸One European soldier was appointed for two Indian soldiers. 🔸Efforts were made to isolate the soliders frome life and thoughts of rest of the population. 3.Change in public services- 🔸The exam was held in London in English medium only. 🔸The subjects included Greek and Latin. 4.Religious tolerance- 🔸It was promised and due attention was paid to the customs and traditions of India. 5.Relationship with princely states- 🔸The policy of taking over the native states was abandoned and he was honored for his cooperation in suppressing the rebellion. The independent states were not merged into the British Empire under the Act of 1858. 🔸Those landlords were honored, who supported the British in the rebellion. Their rights were protected.

It's a nice answer but it missed some points like why sepoy mutinied since british formed their policies as a direct effort to improve military goodwill and administration like sepoys were to be treated equal under crown, native princes were to be recognised, sepoys religious faiths will be respected and etc looks a bit informal just leave it at that if you couldn't remember more😄 Disclaimer I wrote what I felt like my opinion could be 'not correct' I am another aspirant🎉

The revolt of 1857 was marked as the first national war of independence or the revolt against the british and sets the example for future uprisings and and motivated indians. But at the same time, this revolt was also marked as the end of company's rule and the beginning of crown rule in India which leaded the whole indian administration captured in the hands of britain. Evolution of British policies towards colonial india after the revolt of 1857 can be seen in the following ways : 1) On 1st November, 1858 at Allahabad, A darbar was set up under lord canning for the various announcements including the end of East India company's rule and the beginning of crown rule in India. 2) The motive of this announcement was to disclam the sense of annexation of Indian kingdoms and territories furthers by the british from the Indian minds. 3) Under these announcements, The policies of Doctrine of lapse and other Racialism were abolished and no interference in the succession of rule in the states was quaranteed. 4) Britain also clarified the statement of equal opportunity to all and In 1861, Civil services act was passed to allow the indians to get into the administrative services 5) Also the britishers promised to not introduce social reforms which led to the sense of hostility among indians Other Side of these Claims by British : 1) whereas Britain's announcement of not annexing further territories in india ensures the indian for their culture, tradition, rights and wealth be maintained, on the other side queen want the control of india under britain's hand. 2) The whole of syllabus of civil services exam was based on western education, examination centres were abroad and maximuma age limit was 21 years, so that indians cannot qualify and not be promoted to higher posts. 3) They also ensured the fact that all the indian soldiers should not be hired from one state and should be kept away from society, so that they can be used later to supress their own society. 4) Britain also adopted the policy of "Divide and Rule" as they understood that even after being from different religions, Hindus and muslims are united and hindu support muslims and acknowledged the mughal emperor as Badshah. Conclusion: Britain understood all their shortcomings , made evolution in their policies and took the direct control of India after 1857.They disclaim the sense of annexing but were technically and diplomatically binding and constructing the indian administration according to their Imperial view and thus, ruled till 1947.

The uprising of 1857 is an important watershed in the evolution of policies. . Before 1857 the policies of British can be categorised as expansionary which has objective to annex the princely states. Their policies were also based on maximization of revenue collection. They also interfere in the religious sentiments of people. They claimed that they were civilising the Indian. After 1857 their policies were moved in different directions. The direct British crown rule understood the mistakes and mould their policies. The coming policies neither affect the religious sentiments of people nor annex any state further.
