Arnold got shot again in the leg in the battle of Saratoga. Many said if he had only been shot in the heart instead of the leg he would still be a hero to this day.

I live in southern MA and can totally see how people born in the wilderness that the country was back then would have had a massive advantage in unconventional warfare. Anyone who hasn’t traveled the country much can’t really comprehend just how absolutely MASSIVE the land is. It’s huge. Even just the 13 colonies at the time was a MASSIVE amount of real estate, mostly all wilderness, mountains and swamps.

Can we govern ourselves? For a long time yes, until now we are pissing it away because nobody knows, or cares about our history so they can know any better. We are clearly becoming overrun with those who don't like who we are and want to change everything and have a government who overreaches far more than the British ever did. It ain't right. Keep producing these videos I just wish those who need to know, would know but don't care enough to know.

That’s what happens when you start banning books, banning teaching of slavery and objective history, try to turn schools into Bible-classes. “Those who not learn history are doomed to repeat it” Literally EVERY time in human history there’s been massive book burnings, it was ALWAYS oppressors and tyrants and murderers doing the burning - yet we have all these CLOWNS running around with their little flags and little red hats, chanting about patriotism while burning books and invading capitol buildings. Completely clueless that they’re following in some _VERY_ dangerous fascist footsteps.

I would argue that Benedict Arnold's plan wasn't to defeat the British navy at valcour Island but to slow them down and force the British to march south rather than sail. In this he was successful

Well, let me clarify few things. There is an article from The Massachusetts Society Sons of the American Revolution ( SAR ) called ‘Spain and the Independence of The United States.’ After reading the article cannot be a surprise to know than Spanish Commander Bernardo de Galvez has the same honour of be Honorary Citizeship of the United States like Laffayete…

I realize this a short overview of northern battles. You give Stark all the credit for winning Bennington but the Green Mountain Boys were critical to the success of that battle by defeating a reinforcement column that appeared in the afternoon.

The war was won in the south at the battles of King's Mountain, Cowpens, Guilford Courthouse which led to Cornwallis retreating to Yorktown.
@williamcahill2462
@williamcahill2462 2 года назад
The only reason these late battles were in the south is because there were more loyalists in the south, and the British had been driven from all northern areas except NYC. Cowpens was a very significant win for the colonists.

The shot heard round the world refers not to the shot of unknown origin in Lexington, but the first time a Colonial officer ordered the firing on Regular troops in Concord. Also, militia and minute men are not interchangeable contrary to the implication of this video.
@Andy_Babb
@Andy_Babb 3 месяца назад
True. Minutemen were a very specific segment of the militia. I grew up near Boston so I’ve had the pleasure of being able to see many of the same buildings and homes that were central to the revolution. Just seeing the same steeple that they hung that lantern is a site to behold… looking up and seeing the same site these folks saw nearly 250 years ago.

What isn't well known are the reasons behind the Declaration of Independence. We desperately needed French assistance and money. Full independence in late 1775 early 1776 was only desired by about 1/3 of the population. (and mostly in New England) The French monarchy informed us "We're not helping you if you're going to just kiss and make up. We need a commitment for a full divorce" thus the initial justification for the Declaration.

This video is excellent. It scates over the wider causes of the conflict and makes no mention of the division that existed among the colonies over cessession from Britain, but to be fair, that wasn't the objective. As a British person it seems very fair and illustrates defeats as well as victories. Often this kind of video just show one side's victories, which hides the determination of the revolutionary leaders and fighters who continued in the face of adversity. More could have been made of the fact that Spain, as well as France, declared war on Britain (definitely for their own reasons which were nothing to do with freedom for ordinary people) and that Thomas Paine was English and that his views were widely supported by British people, if not by the Crown. Overall, a very useful video that could be shown in classes on both sides of the Atlantic.

Benedict Arnold actually stopped the British from moving south to Albany with a rag tag little fleet of small ships. It was no failure whatsoever. In fact it was an important win in this regard. The British fleet returned to Canada. It was successfully stopped.

The summary was excellent until the last paragraph. The USA of 1789 did not have any more historical liberty than ancient greek city states and less than the Swiss Republic before Napoleon invaded the country. So it's in no way an extraordinary experiment due to the longevity of it's existence. It had to fight bitterly with blood and tears over each step towards universal representation and in many ways still has not arrived at that lofty goal. Don't promote the nationalistic, selfrighteous myth of American Exceptionalism, when it the nation is anything but.
@CJCx3_Videos
@CJCx3_Videos 8 месяцев назад
Ideas matter. The video stated @17:45 - "began the most important experiment." The "spirit of '76" was and is revolutionary. By the time the constitution took effect, you are right to say many ideas had been compromised away, but the ideas of the revolution have shaped America through today. Those ideas, continually shape the nation to create, "A more perfect Union." It wasn't perfect day 1 and it isn't perfect today, but it a unique nation that gives hope to the world, through revolutionary ideas.
