I teach a Music and Movement class for moms and kids 0-5 at the church weekly. (Kid songs, shakers, scarves, sticks, pom poms, bubbles, parachute, etc ) I've met my best friends in the stake this way! The moms all love chatting, and we have parties, too. Non-members come. It's a great thing for inviting new move-ins, random families at the park, neighbors, less active members. I recommend a Music and Movement class to all stakes!!!

I served my mission in southern France. Proselyting was super tough. We had more quality baptisms from passing out “come play basketball with the Americans” flyers than anything else. We had 15-20 people show up every Saturday morning and they saw our church was normal with normal people. Special interest and activities are vital to growing the church. Maybe I’ll move to Long Beach (:

I presented this to my stake presidency a couple months ago. The turned the idea down, citing that because of the size of the stake boundaries (Elizabethtown KY stake is 100 miles x 50 miles approximately). And while I do understand their concern, I don't think it should be a concern. I think there just needs to be a paradigm shift from "top down" to "bottom up"

You are on the right track. Going to the skate presdent first put the onus on him if he agrees to it to try make it happen (even if you're not asking him to). You just get a few folks together who have shared interests and start doing it. Do it through your RS of EQ as an activity and you have access to the building. Let it grow until it naturally becomes a stake activity. My wife and a couple of frinds started doing quilting that way - primarily they really wanted to have the space from the cultural hall. Our adult daughter is in a different ward in the stake and she started coming with her daughter, and brought some other ladies along. It's essentially a stake activity without the stake getting invovled. That's the way to "bottom up" the activity, and shows there is enough interest.

I don't always agree with you on everything, however this is a real winner! I had a phone friend join the church because I we had things in common as I linked her to with a sister from a ward near her in Canada! I live in Colorado. She joined the church and even though we never met in person before she passed away I know she had a ward family when she died!!!

I see in the comments, a cut and paste from an anti-Mormon pamphlet called impossible doctrine. Where our doctrine is criticized for expecting us to come unto Christ and forsake all ungodliness, however, the context is the very end of the book of Mormon. Mormon has died and Moroni is about to die, and the context is the final stage of our salvation in the next life overcoming all ungodliness. Travis Anderson on his excellent RU-vid channel, missionary discussions, explains this very well.

I'm curious some of the details of how to implement this. Are we allowed to use church facilities for this? How do we even get on the schedule? Last time i tried to schedule the church for something i was told that mutual was Tuesday and thursday evening, youth activities wenesday and friday, family night Monday so that was not allowed, and mens basketball was every morning, Friday night and Saturday morning. Also who pays for things? Like paddle boards? I tried to get a volleyball night set up in my stake but the nets were broken and no ball. I could bring my own ball but i was told there was no budget for a net. Tried a different stake building and we were told we couldn't do it anymore because it made the stake uncomfortable to have no priesthood there. Lastly is the struggle to get access to the building key. The bishops and stake presidents are not comfortable giving a key if its not for a specific calling. Not trying to complain! Just bringing up some of the hurdles I'm struggling to overcome in the pursuit of this. It's an interesting idea though

Interesting! I've always been under the impression, and I've even shared this in Church, that because of the understanding we have of the Savior and the sacred nature of Jesus Christ, intuitively we shy away or refrain from placing the Lord’s name (Jesus Christ) on bumper stickers or t-shirts, etc. In fact, I think Church members gravitate, without even knowing it toward saying, the Lord and the Savior, Redeemer, rather than Jesus Christ... And very rarely, Jesus! But, times are changing and the restoration is ongoing!😊😂

I wonder if all these activities are actually helping people come closer to Jesus Christ, or if it’s going to lead to large burnout over time? I don’t mean this as a negative comment. Actually the opposite. It’s very exciting to see people getting social and interacting in fun wholesome ways.

On the flipside, however, sometimes people who have the same interests don’t get along and that can also post problems so I think it’s best if take presents be sure to pray about what activities they ought to do and make sure they are praying about an appointing people who they feel led to appoint

If the EQ or RS is holding an activity, it is a church activity. And not everything needs to be at the Church. My wife and some other sisters have been holding a book club monthly for years. The RS adopted it as an activity. They have met in the building, but most often the sisters rotate it among homes. And there are sometimes some disabled who participate - other sisters bring them when they are interested. THe fact that there are homebound or disabled members should not preclude you from activities. The ward should make an effort to host activities that can or would be interested in participating - that's called ministering.

I do like this concept a lot. But the push back I would give is when members have interests that do not align with the gospel. Perfect examples, Yoga is not a good activity for members of the church. There's too much delusion in it and i would not be Comfortable if male members of the church showed up to do it with my spouse. Also the given example of Disney, which categorically preys on children but you've got members promoting it so I can see these being issues as when someone's got a passion. But then they get criticized by other members or shutdownby leadership, there will be hurt feelings. Because what they are interested in is not fundamentally good and not in line with the gospel.

The last time I checked, the Church has little say on what you do on your own. And dude, you have some serious paranoias goinig on. Now to be fair, I would not call it a yoga class, because while people say it isn't religious, it is derived from Hindu spiritual practices. The chants, meditations and the idea of opening chakras to spiritual powers - are all Hindu - and now New Age practives that can get members into trouble. But the vast majority of people attend yoga classes for exercise. Some people argue it's not ypga without the spiritual practice, and some Christians tie themselves in knots trying to reframe it. Catholics have adopted the physical exercise proactice with Christian prayer and call it Pietra Fitness. I'd suggest calling it a women's fitness class and ensuring the chants, etc are not part of it. As to Disney, yeah, I think you are going off the plank on that one. But it is a good point about advertising it through the ward - like ay announcement, it should be evaluated. My wife's quilting group doesn't do announcements. Those invovled create and pass out flyers.

MORMONS’ IMPOSSIBLE GOSPEL Moroni 10:32 “ **IF** you deny yourselves of **ALL** ungodliness… **THEN** is his grace sufficient for you.” Did you notice the IF / THEN statement? That’s a conditional statement. So - how much ungodliness do you need to get rid of? Some? Most of? 60%? 90%? Moroni 10:32 states you need to deny “ *ALL* ungodliness.” That means you have to remove ALL sin from yourself. According to this Mormon scripture: grace doesn’t start until **AFTER** you have removed ALL ungodliness/sin. This means grace is unattainable for Mormons. - The Book of Mormon has other passages which support this: 2 Nephi 25:23 “We are saved by grace, **AFTER** all we can do.” When do you get the grace? Have you done all that you can do? Have you ever had 1 day in your whole life where you did all you could do? You couldn’t have prayed another minute? So - can anyone ever be saved??? - Mormon scripture is consistent about this: Alma 11:37 “And I say unto you again, that HE CANNOT SAVE THEM IN THEIR SIN. For I cannot deny his word, and ye have said no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven. Therefore how can you be saved except you enter the kingdom of heaven? Therefore YOU CANNOT BE SAVED IN YOUR SINS.” That’s like saying you’ve got to get out of the water before I’m going to save you from drowning. In contrast, the Christian Jesus isn’t a swimming coach - He’s a lifeguard. I’ve seen Mormons say, “it just means do your best” - but the Book of Mormon directly contradicts them and makes it explicitly clear that it does not mean that: First Nephi 3:7 “And it came to pass that I nee-phi said unto my father , “I will go and do the things which the Lord has commanded. For I know that the Lord giveth no commandment unto the children of men save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commanded them.”” Is it possible for the Mormon god to give you a command you can’t keep? Did he tell you to deny yourself of ALL ungodliness? Did he tell you to do all you can do? Did he tell you you can’t be saved in your sins? If they say, I’m doing the best I can - then ask - does it say “Do the best you can” ? So - can anyone be saved? Read the whole chapter of Alma 34. Which says you have to have repented of ALL sin before you die, otherwise you will be sealed to Satan. AND: a reminder: Moroni 10:32 “IF you deny yourselves of **ALL** ungodliness… **THEN** is his grace sufficient for you.” 2 Nephi 25:23 “We are saved by grace, **AFTER** all we can do.” - This is confirmed by: Doctrines and Covenants 82:7 “And now, verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, will not lay any sin to your charge; go your ways and sin no more; BUT UNTO THAT SOUL WHO SINNETH SHALL THE FORMER SINS RETURN, saith the Lord your God.” Doctrines and Covenants 82:9-10 “I give unto you directions how you may act before me, that it may turn to you for your salvation. I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; BUT WHEN YE DO NOT WHAT I SAY, YE HAVE NO PROMISE.“ Under those conditions - who can be saved??? Also: "TRYING IS NOT SUFFICIENT. Nor is repentance complete when one merely tries to abandon sin," Spencer Kimball 12th President and **PROPHET** of the LDS Church, The Miracle of Forgiveness, p150 The book just quoted, ‘THE MIRACLE OF FORGIVENESS,’ by Spencer Kimball (12th President and **PROPHET** of the LDS Church) is approved and recommended by multiple LDS leaders: Ezra Taft Benson (13th President and **PROPHET** of the LDS Church) urged all church members "to read and reread President Spencer Kimball's book." (from ‘In His Steps’ 1988). LDS Church apostle Richard G. Scott called ‘The Miracle of Forgiveness’ a "masterly work" (‘Peace of Conscience and Peace of Mind, 2004) and “a superb guide.” (Finding Forgiveness, 1995). ---- Please notice how this Mormon scripture directly contradicts the following 2 Bible scriptures: Alma 11:37 “And I say unto you again, that HE CANNOT SAVE THEM **IN** THEIR SIN. For I cannot deny his word, and ye have said no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven. Therefore how can you be saved except you enter the kingdom of heaven? Therefore YOU CANNOT BE SAVED **IN** YOUR SINS.” “even when we were dead **IN** our sins, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭ “And when you were dead **IN** your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our sins, having canceled the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭
