This is a copy of a DVD I made nearly 10 years ago from my own footage which was available commercially at the time as part of a South Wales series,of which The Vale of Glamorgan and The Taff Vale Line have already been uploaded to You tube.
This title is in 2 volumes ,volume 1 being 1993-1999 and Volume 2 ,2000-2006 .
Volume 2 will follow very soon .
This compilation is packed with various traction not only class 37s ,33s and 50 on the Rhymney Passenger turns but class 60s on coal and stone, triple headed 37s on the Cwmbargoed diagram ,rare footage of the Margam - Rhymney steel train which only ran for a few months plus a class 58 at LLanishen on the Westbury to Cwmbargoed stone working.
Also featured is the last 37 hauled stone train from Cwmbargoed .
As well as footage from inside Ystrad Mynach and Bargoed Signal
Box (my thanks to Adrian Brennan ) hopefully there is something for everybody interested in this popular route.

The 37s are a UK success story. A Right First Time design. They're based on the Ivatt EE LMS diesels from 1947. What isn't broke don't fix.

Due to work commitments Brian, I wasn't able to capture much of these workings, so thanks very much for your superb video capturing so many of the location I got to know well in the sixties and seventies.....Best wishes...Bob

Brian, please indulge my ignorance; it seems that heritage traction was hired in to pull the passenger traffic, together with a variety of EWS power. Was this simply because that was the only loco haulage available, or a marketing exercise to increase ridership? And why loco haulage rather than DMU stock? Was there also a cunning reason for that, or just a shortage of DMUs?

Hi Geoff , Operations manager for Arriva South Wales at the time was the late Tom Clifft who i knew , a loveley man, a big big railway enthusiast himself , he had a big influence on the traction used in the area and, without going into too much detail was responsible for giving us the treat of class 37/47/50 /33 haulage on the Rhymneys and Fishguard harbour services .

Thank you. There have always a been a few, always too few. So few people of real vision these days, too many grey suits and minds...
