After a thrilling start to The Rickshaw Run India 2018 last week - We meet our charity on the way through Udaipur. Animal Aid Unlimited do an amazing job and were our selected charity for The Rickshaw Run India 2018.
Unlike some of the other teams we didn't have any breakdowns in the first few days, but we were slowly learning exactly now much fuel Haggypus is using! And we should have bought more jerrycans
If you want to know more about the Rickshaw Run, team Haggypus, or our amazing charities that we are supporting, follow this link:

Cheers and see you guys next time!
Andrew

After you making and uploading such an amazing video for us to watch RU-vid just made me watch it in 144p ... so I'm going to watch it again ... in 720p. Not heard of the Rickshaw Run before ... I'm going to have to do some research as "that" looks like a nice way to see and experience a country a culture and it's people.

Hey Alasdair! Thanks so much for tuning in! If you can, watch in 1080 for the full effect 😁 the Richskaw Run was so much fun... I’d highly recommend

Very nicely put together mate (I’m referring to the video, not the rickshaw. That thing looks like it’s gonna fall apart any minute). Loving it!

Hahah thanks Richo! Our Rickshaw was surprisingly robust considering what it is 😁 I’m thinking of trying to get one into Australia and run a taxi service in Sydney on a Friday and Saturday night!

What an epic trip, it's amazing to get an insight into what went happened on this incredible adventure. I'd love to know more about what you ended up eating. The accomodation looked fairly basic, did you have regular access to showers along the way?

Its truly something unique to experience. Not only are people amazed because you're white, but you're also in a pimped out Rickshaw! I kept the more private times off camera to give Sam and Tom a break from a camera always in their face. But its a side that Ill show when I do the Himalayan Run! The accommodation was basic, but that was our intended budget. We spent around $8-15 per night for the room for all three of us. There were some people spending quite a bit of money that even included valet parking of their rickshaw! The rooms were usually a queen or king bed and a window bed or sofa for the third person which Sam was always gracious enough to endure. Each place had a shower... but they were usually just low pressure and only the expensive place that we stayed had hot water! It did the job, but definitely an adjustment needed. Most of the times it was warm enough to enjoy the cold though so no issues there. Our key criteria when we turned up somewhere was three beds and a western toilet. That's all we needed!

Andrew Dawes awesome series, Mate. Loved the B&W Photo (Square) of the two fella’s and the excitement you captured in their faces, gold. I also had the same thought as @Andrew Marr, I love Indian and Asian food. But i was wondering if any of you fella’s got the tummy rumbles lol. Seems like you’re all having a great time. Cheers

yeah that photo is one of my favourite too. Mostly because the town that we're in isnt places that these Rickshaws every really go.... So these local guys had never seen anything like that before. They were just so excited and happy to meet and take selfies etc. None of us eat meat, and only Tom really eats dairy so we were pretty safe to begin. India, being a Hindu country, is actually majority vegetarian. its harder to find meat than it is to not find meat. So most kitchens (with a green square and dot) are vegetable only kitchens. The red dot and square means they serve meat. That being said there were a few low viscosity moments, but no Mars rocket launch mission events. We were sweet as!

What an amazing trip, I really hope you get a photo book printed to commemorate it, be a waste to only have digital copies of all those great shots of Haggypus. ;)

Thanks!!!! Haylie and I have a vision for a photo wall. We've done similar stuff before after big trips. Just absolutely plaster a feature wall with photos telling stories and adventures. To be honest its one of the reasons we are satisfied to return home... to reflect on what the last 3 years meant to us and what we have achieved.

Guys, when will you be in Kerala... Or is the race already over?

Race is already over. We were there in August when the monsoon flood hit. The race was re-directed half way through! Crazy amount of water.

Thanks man! I really appreciate you tuning in. Hopefully I can get my act together to give these videos even more justice on the edit side. I always leave it too late each week haha! Should be a few more episodes to come from the India series :D

I'm doing the January 2019 Rickshaw Run, so it's great to see your videos! Curious, what cameras did you guys use for video and stills?
@AndrewDawes
@AndrewDawes 5 лет назад
Hey Pete! That’s awesome man 👍 thanks for tuning in. For video I have a Canon m50 and rode video mic pro and for the still it’s a combo between shooting stills on the m50 and a Canon 6D and 24-70 f2.8
@bandergrove
@bandergrove 5 лет назад
Awesome. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the M50. Did you use the stock 15-45mm lens?
@AndrewDawes
@AndrewDawes 5 лет назад
Yeah it’s a great video camera for the price point.... unfortunately mine is in the workshop atm after a nasty incident in Scotland after the run 😅 yeah just the stock 15-45mm lens. I couldn’t convince the boss otherwise 😁
@bandergrove

Andrew Dawes Your footage looks great for such a small and economical camera! Very impressed with the M50.
@AndrewDawes
@AndrewDawes 5 лет назад
I’d like to say it’s camera operator.... but let’s face it canon mightn’t have delivered with the EOS-R but the m50 is a great vlogging camera 😁

Looking back at the footage I cant believe how many fuel stops there were! It was an economical ride, but the carrying capacity was shit. Design tips for the next one hey ;)

I'm thinking of doing this in my gap year and i was just wondering how much mechanical experience do you need to do the whole trip and roughly how expenisve was it for you
@AndrewDawes
@AndrewDawes 5 лет назад
Good on ya champ! From memory excluding the flights and the Rickshaw Run costs etc I spent around $800 AUD... I think. India can be expensive as you make it. We stayed in places that were $10 a night for 3 and ate for like $3-$7 a meal.... so its really what you make it. Regarding the mechanical parts.... dont stress at all. They give you a mechanical brief before the run starts and if you're in India, you just need to stop and look at the engine and a crowd of people will gather. Its almost certain that someone in the crowd knows what going on, and if no?! Well thats the fun of the Rickshaw Run my friend.
