theres about 100hrs of XFM shows to get through...plus the 'guide to' series. they could also do 'derek', 'lifes too short', 'moaning of life' and karl's solo TV show 'sick of it'
@@derkaiser1306 I do hope they don't fall too deep down a British hole like my dear After Work Reactions. It's a bunch of exclusively British stuff over there now, where the references don't always make sense. Karl's a special case, he's universal! I do like British comedy and British humour, and I'm Canadian - not so far off totally, i'm guessing we're half like the Brits and half like Americans culturally. They made a polite baby! Anyways, I hope the channel does keep more Karl and dabbles in Britain - but stays diverse.
@@k33p1tc00l I agree I prefer the original podcadts. The animations take people's attention away from what they're saying sometimes & the sound fx are distracting
@@k33p1tc00l Exactly, there's so many little nuances missing also that are hilarious. Educating Ricky, Rockbusters, & Cheeky Freak of the Week is a treasure trove of comedy missing from the animation. Imo the xfm broadcasts + the podcasts are the greatest podcasts of all time. I don't get bored of them like other podcasts & radio shows. Been listening for over 10 years.
Notice: when Karl is talking about getting a stomach ache from eating too many plums, Suzanne comes over and puts an ashtray on his stomach. This is in reference to a previous story Karl told that when members of his family had a stomach ache, their remedy was to put a "cold glass ashtray" on it to "calm it down". Such a deep visual cut there...
I think they kinda have the same simplistic way of looking at things but at the same time both unique theories and ideas on stuff. Both can have a dry sense of humour as well that hits different.
@@girkjartans2343 Yes...but Theo and Norm would just absolutely tear Karl apart after about 5 minutes. These are his two best friends and they're doing this because he's SO ridiculous, they find him hilarious...Norm would start tricking him and confusing him and Theo would just be reminded of the kids he grew up with who were special ed that he talks about.
🤣 Funny that you mentioned that. I thought it was a bit of missed opportunity ! Karl on a desert island could have run as a mini series in the Ricky Gervais Show, along with Monkey News.
The funny thing about this "slugs clogging up the piping" theory of Karl's is it's not slugs at all - that black gunk buildsup in draining systems is bacteria. It happens to everyone at some point - the drain clogs and you plunge and all this horrid stuff comes out.
Scientist: Oh, I’m just looking at what happens when you give Feminax to an Owl… Karl: …….what happens? It’s such a small little exchange, but it’s one of my favorite little scenarios and just how Karl works with it. An honest Thank You to you guys, these are about all that help me get through the day. 🍻
I love the dictionary idea! That might actually be my choice as well😅 Constant learning! I have potential conversations in my head all the time and I try to perfect them, brilliant idea!😄
If you are stranded and alone you would absolutely vocally talk to yourself. Humans are social creatures and not saying anything just because you're alone just won't happen for an extended period of time.
Every time Ricky and Steve rip on him for thinking in words, I'm like man I think it full sentences too all the time, plus I talk to myself out loud all the time. Am I mental?? haha.
Of course I think in words but, for example, if u think of an object you don´t know the name of you still know what you´re referring to. You can picture it in your head. Don´t need to look it up in a dictionary to understand what you´re thinking about😉
I thought that karl was just having a karl moment when he said "slugs eat stamps" and then i visited my mate and he showed me his recycling bin in the back garden, and they chewed the envelopes but only the glue part. We smoked a joint and fed them the fish food flakes 😂😂 they love that stuff!! 😋
Are plungers not an automatic item everyone with a toilet just has next to it in England? I've never heard of anyone in any western country only see them in comics
It's not a must have, I've seen and used them before but don't have one now. It'd be the first thing I got if the pipes were blocked though (before Google, then calling for help). More likely used often by cleaners, unlucky cleaners on that day.
@@yegmeshjwp oh I see. We must have inferior plumbing in the states. Unless it's a powerful industrial toilet you're asking for trouble not having one next to your toilet
@@brianroman6150 Seems like nothing but its such a weird difference (If both our experiences are the norm for UK and US). Out of curiosity, don't mean to be rude, how often do you find yourself plunging? No frame of reference for a normal amount.
Slugs gross me out. When I was a kid, i lived in a house that had huge sliding glass doors. Every stinking time it rained, out came all these slugs crawling and stuck onto the glass door. Nasty. Imagine trying to eat and looking over to see slugs underbellies staring back in your face. We had to close the curtains. Thank god, there were curtains. I'm still traumatized of slugs today
It’s funny…. I watched this whole series initially, loved it, but now I’m watching you dudes watch it again. And enjoying it pretty much as much, if not more than the first time through. The future is weird. Thanks for not editing the show! Honestly wasn’t sure if ya’ll would enjoy it, a lot of people think it’s just stupid, and …. It IS stupid but that’s kinda why it’s so hilarious.
The mind/body dualism is strong with karl. Ricky accuses Karl of being stupid, its just that Ricky is a monist, and Karl is a dualist (or possibly more).
Glad someone noticed this. He's literally talking Jung and Campbell instinctively. Karl is actually always talking over Rick and Steve's head. He's wasted on them. I'd love to see Karl talking with a Jungian psychologist. Karl gets it! Love him!
@@Thetruepianoman From what I can gather, Karl often raises questions over things like "am I in charge on my brain, or is my brain in charge of me". This also raises the philosophical issue of free Will v determinism. Karl says things that make it sound like his 'mind' and maybe the 'mind' of things like his feet and eyes, have their own agency. Ricky believes that there are no souls or spirits or a person controlling everything. The only thing to Ricky that exists is matter. The mind is generated by the brain.
Actually, for the first time, the bit where Karl talks about taking the dictionary with him to a desert island struck me as quite poignant. He's trying to explain that he doesn't feel confident with his vocab and he's opening up a bit, but they(not so much Steve, more Ricky) just shriek at him as though it's the most ridiculous idea to take along the dictionary. Which it clearly isn't: it's a perfectly sensible choice.
@@holeefuk413 Why not? You're hoping to get rescued at some point, you've got nothing else to do, you like language...why wouldn't you prepare yourself for entry back into society? Are you okay? Have you got a brain injury or something?
Oh my god, I think Karl is on to something. Like, a better example is people with depression or anxiety, who genuinely want to do something and have the thought and desire to do it, but then they aren't able to take action and do what they've thought of because of the impact of anxiety/depression on the motivation functions of the brain, or because there are physical effects of anxiety and depression (heart, energy metabolism, etc) which can then cause problems when that person really wants to do something they've thought up, but can't physically do it. Now, I don't think people with mental health problems should be put in the room, but I think that Karl has definitely described this complication of mental health problems in general, or even some conditions like ADHD which cause executive functioning disorder, which is also what Karl seems to be describing here. He's a genius, he just doesn't have a very broad vocabulary or doesn't fully understand the concepts he's stumbled upon or observed independently, so we get comedy gold. Brilliant.
I agreed with Karl on a couple of points here though. For one thing: we DO think we're important. And I also agreed on how some brains don't fit the skills a person can have. xD Its just that he goes off the rails in his explanation. And then Ricky and Steve take it out of context
Yes you do talk to yourself. Aloud too. Everyone does it when they are on their own. I personally would take the Quran but a dictionary is a good choice.
It’s already been proven that people think in picture, words, colors, concepts…Yet, most people don’t know that, and can’t understand others don’t think like them. So, wanting to take the time on the desert island to educate yourself is ideal. It’s what a lot of people are doing with their time during the pandemic. Total isolation is the perfect time to educate and self improve with out any external stimulus.
I know what Karl meant about the peoples brains thing, I can’t get my head around DIY I’m just no good at it I’ve attempted it many times but can’t figure out how to a lot of it properly where as theory side work I’m much better, so he meant people who are good at practical work and the hands on approach should be a plumber electrician or whatever and people like me who are good at theory should be behind a desk or something
