The RIGHT way to freeform with locs RE:

I'm still battling with this idea of the right way to be freeform or semi-freeform with locs. I find myself in this grey area with my dreadlocks. I'm not really separating them anymore but I'm also not letting one giant loc form on my head either. I have multiple two-headed and three-headed dragons all over my head as well. Is there truly a right way to freeform? shrug

You should do a quick video about locs in the black community: sista, freeform, history, other ethnicities. etc., you got the cred. :)

Started Freeform locs in 2018. I love them! Black people we have beautiful hair. We really don't need nothing on it.

So much truth and power in you and Mayowa’s presence on this platform. These words need to be said. Letting go of “taming” our hair...for who? We all know why we struggle with this. When you get to the other side though, its the best thing one can do for herself. I see so many black women with no edges because we just rip out our beautiful hair to make it do what it was not meant to do...... “conform”. Thank you for posting this video.

I'm just past 3 years loc'd (and I've been following your journey since your previous set!) But in 2017 I decided to stop retwisting. I still separate my hair when I want to but my edges stand straight up to stare society in the face 😂😂😂 Great video, of course! Thanks for posting

You and I are mirroring each other.. in this journey... I started to stop twisting and manipulating my locks in 2013...mainly because I was preggo and tired all the time. It took several years and stages and I have some thick congos some 5 headed dragons..and small locks from my twisted past. I dont think I am a freeformer..by definition..but I am surely a "nontwister".. I feel that is a more truthful way to describe my relationship with my locks today. Xoxox ..continue to evolve and many blessings to you sis. ❤

Wow! I literally just found mayowa 5mins ago! This is my 2nd video & I chose this bc of the content & then BAM! Mayowa again! Lol! 🖤 I enjoyed this video. I have also been struggling w/the ideology of freeform vs locs. Despite the utter ignorance surrounding me from every angle & aspect possible (ie family friends & strangers) in regards to any kind of locs, I have been pushing to reclaim what my pre-colonized spirit(s) has lost in generations of misuse mistreatment & the age old misunderstood #laurynhill (did I misspell?! Yikes!) Nevertheless, this (these) video(s) have been the crumb of persistence I feed on to surv... thrive. Thank you. Thank both of you. This journey is no joke & a long overdue necessity. For me & everyone on it.

Certain people I follow for content, and I found your page because of the content. But certain people's videos I love because of how they make me feel. Girl it don't matter what you're talking about but every time I watch you I get this sense of calm lol I love it..beautiful locs as usual...I said I want to go closer to freeform but I'm nervous not retwisting in this first year will make my locs weak because I have so much hair growing outside of the locs so I'm torn

I think of words that plague us in this new world 🌎.... acceptance difference norms... I could go on. The truth is these are words we have learned in a land where who we are isn’t reflected in images we see. So we (people of color) are inclined to feel these deep feelings within ourselves. Just think if you were in a land where everyone looked similar to you with no outside western influences 0. My what a land that would be. There may be other issues but not those around are my edges layed ! Right. I appreciate your transparency and agree with you and the other female you shared on acceptance health and beauty. I follow her too..

I just put up a video last week on how I try to lay my edges. This video was challenging for me. Part of me loves the idea of freeform locs but I love the polished look too. It's probably time to interrogate that a bit more. I am starting optometry school in the fall though so I'm balancing how I'm "supposed" to look vs embracing my hair for everything that it is.

Freeforming is about the way the locs are maintained as well as how they are started. If you started from anything but a fro, you are semi. Nothing wrong with that beautiful!

I call your style semi-freeforming...very beautiful...resist the twist... No products just occasionally separating where you want to...very cool. .enjoy the light fluffy springy bounce of new growth like a child's hair. If you like MAYOWA, I recommend the POEMDANCES channel. She is wonderful..and her hair journey as well !! And my first youtube mentor for semi free forming is a gal named ADDETTE WELLINGTON. I love these natural, self love maintained styles!!

Labels are the worst.. at the end of the day do what you want to do to your hair. About a year ago eye had the hardest time with myself because some locs were connecting making it too big for me and eye didn't want one giant loc standing on the top of my head, eye felt bad about spitting it and felt like eye was no longer a "freeformer" but eye realized if eye wouldn't had labeled myself eye wouldn't have felt bad about splitting because eye wouldn't have been trying to live up to the standard of what people call "freeform". Don't label yourself and maintain your hair however you see fit.

I noticed in your past vids that you wash your locs with the loc jewelry in. Does it cause any snagging or weak spots in your locs? I find that I'm getting random weak spot in my locs but I don't wear jewelry so I have no idea where they're coming from. Oh and I love these short style videos. They feel more intimate for some reason.
@kingkhaya6127

do you interlock? or twist in different directions?
@JayAntoinette
@JayAntoinette 5 лет назад
@@kingkhaya6127 Hmm... I don't interlock or twist in different directions *now* however a lot of my weak spots are located in the bottom most part of my locs when I first started my locs I tried to interlock but stopped. That could definitely be it.

Let be your videos and your spirit!!!😃👍❤️. But no soap on face. I’m 57 and been thru lots of products for face skin nails etc. so not good for facial cleansing. For dry skin I recommend olive oil followed by diluted vinegar to restore acid mantle of skin. For oily skin, I recommend warm water followed by diluted vinegar, but no oil for cleansing.
