Okay. I finally got my S#!+ together, and started working with my power pole connectors and my Iwiss (Amazon) crimpers. The crimpers worked magnificently! But there is a little bit of a learning curve, for getting these little connectors level with each other, and in the Correct direction to the plastic housings! Well, it took me a bit, but I got it! Its okay.... Its ALL Okay! 🤔😉😃😫 And FYI: I reviewed your video, many times, to make sure I was doing it right. Thanks for the help x10!

PP is a great idea! I've converted to PP literally all my 12V connectors in the shack, in my Radio Van, my Go Box, also all portable radios and all battery packs. And life is easy since! I can quickly change, interchange any battery to any rig, battery to charger and so on. PP's are easy to assemble as seen from this fine video. Just what's important to my opinion is to get a good quality crimper. For me , Powerwerx was also a good compromise between price and quality. 73! Linas LY2H

Sooo i just found your video, because i just learned about these connectors, i'm just a little confused where i'd like to use them is a connection into a control box for 12V power, One question i have is are these individual connectors universal ? That is to say do two of the same shape (irrespective of color) fit together to form the male and female side of a plug ? Second question following on from the first if answer to my first question is No, then is there a "bulkhead" or "panel mount" style of this type of plug ? Thanks !

Not bad but too many details left out! 1. You can set the terminal into the crimper curve down without the wire inserted. Once the terminal is in place, you can then insert the wire. You can even close the crimper down JUST A BIT to help hold it in place. 2. The crimper can be laid flat on a table. This makes it easier to insert the wire. Once it is inserted, you can squeeze the crimper. Once it grips the metal, you can pick up the tool to apply more force. Lay it down with the block side down. I wondered what the purpose of that was when I first tried using it. 3. I have solar system wiring that has THICK insulation. If I do not strip enough of the insulation off the solar panel cables, the thickness does NOT allow the curve piece of the connector to mate with the retaining metal inside the housing. The insulation prevents me from inserting the connector all the way in. Wasted several pieces trying to figure this out. You may have to trim traditional insulation so that the pieces mate up. Or, buy larger connectors. 4. If you want the two housing units that make up either end of the cable to be permanently attached side by side as designed, use some super glue once you are SURE they are connecting the way they should be. There are small pins that can be inserted into the mated housing units that prevent them from sliding apart. Some APPC kits come with the pins, some do not.

I know it is a bit late for recommending strippers, but I'll put this out there anyway. When you are looking at "auto" strippers, do not get the ones that have a straight blade that just cuts through half the insulation and tears it off. Those will at the very least put small nicks in the wires but usually cut a few strands off stranded wires. Instead go for the kind that has cut-outs for the different American Wire Gauge (AWG) sizes. I have Capri model 20010. and I'm very happy with them.

@SuGeneris
@SuGeneris 9 месяцев назад
Tinning before crimping is a bad idea, you're adding a soft filler material that will creep/flow out of the way over time and reduce the residual compression that the crimp design relies upon for a secure connection.
@jaxturner7288
@jaxturner7288 7 месяцев назад
You should never do both. The soft tin in the solder will continue to yield hours after the crimping process is complete causing the once tightly crimped connection to become loose. 👊
