Use this method for mounting your top hand to your camera so that you can easily get smoother handheld shots. This technique will make it easier on your wrist and help distribute the weight of the camera more evenly across the top handle.

Ideally, yes. However for me, I have 15mm rails and a decently heavy mini V-mount on the back, so the weight distribution works out. Plus I use the cold shoe on that same top handle to mount a VideoMic NTG, which wouldn’t work flipped around unfortunately. For lighter setups though, this is the way! 🤙🏻

This a nice tip for people that don’t fully rig the camera with vmounts to compensate the weight in the back. Using the handle in reverse kinda reminds me of old skate videos 😁 nice tip!

My top handle refuses to mount to the rear. Small Rig forces you to mount to forward.

The top and I use also has a cold shoe on both ends. But you can also use a 1/4-20 thread mount

It's not "wrong". That depends on the body, the lens, and the rig itself. I use it not reversed and the balance is perfect, no tilting

Its supposed to be used In conjunction with a monitor to counter balance it, if you use a flip out screen, then yes just reverse it lol

If the monitor is mounted on the lens side it makes the whole situation worse, how is that counter balancing??? The normal way of mounting the top handle is for large cinema cams with V-mount batteries where the body is often heavier or equal to the weight of the lens.

Except if you use the top handle to mount anything like a monitor or microphone, you've now made those mounts useless if you reverse the position.

It’s all subjective. With your cam setup it makes sense to reverse the handle. BUT if your same camera had a vmount battery mounted at the back then the initial way you mounted your handle makes sense.

Get a good tophandle. 1984 (bolt on) and 1955 (nato) from smallrig is adjustable so you don’t have to flip them around when you're going from a teeny tiny prime to a zoom.
