They say you need to prove $5k AUD if asked to help support yourself, I would say it’s better to have it in a bank, as it’s got less chance of getting lost/stolen. However, I don’t known the technical advice on proving funds with 5k Cash
For the WHV 417 you can work anywhere for 6 months, however to extend your visa you have to do specified work. (Unless you are from the UK) starting from July

They say this is the amount of money minimum it requires to support yourself on your WHV, my advice would be save for a little longer, or if your flights are booked, ask friends/family to borrow the money to have in your bank account, but when you land, get a job ASAP and try not to spend it
