As a Kiriko main I know she's not the most interesting character, but I'm still curious as to how she ends up joining up with post-recall Overwatch. I'm glad the writers have let her start making mistakes too.

tricky topic when you realise 'Overwatch' as a whole exists because these are exciplicitly 'heroes', overwatch isnt a universe, its a story narrative, characters help to expand on the universe but doesnt stray from why its called Ovewatch to begin with

I would love if loverwatch was a bit bigger next year, and it was between bap, mauga and LW, who gets the stunning man with an immortalty feild? Maybe we'll never know.

Storytelling-wise: I really like when characters have very well defined characters traits. Like, written in such a way that you always know how they would act regardless of the situations. And if you swapped one character for another, say Indiana Jones for Lara Croft, you would have an entirely different plot. I read DC Comics and the way you're descibing current overwatch sounds like this. When done well, the choice to involve a character into a narrative is done because they they have themes, motivations, mannerisms and relationships that are important to the story. Batman and Nightwing works differently than Batman and Red Hood or Batman and Catwoman and especially Batman and Detective Chimp. Likewise, you could choose any villain for this short, such as Widowmaker or Ashe. The choice to use Sombra, even if not deliberate, changes the course of the plot.

A good comparison I reckon to the non-canon character development we see in OW (and similar IP) would be filler arcs in a lot of tv series. In bits of filler in a given show, the characters may not be advancing their primary plotlines much at all, and what they're doing may never be referenced later, but they're expressing themselves in scenarios they otherwise would never encounter on the rails of the main story. Whether it's holodeck episodes of Star Trek or damn hot springs episodes in oh-so-many anime, the writers get to explorer facets of characters' personalities and their relationships with each other that otherwise would never be touched upon. We'd never glimpse Mercy and Genji's awkward dating lives outside of Loverwatch, or see the ladies having time off to see a concert outside of the LE SERREFIM collab, or see Kiriko's closet-cosplay of Tatsumaki getting out performed by Doomfist's $2,000 custom-tailored One Punch Man suit if not for *that* collab.

While I absolutely wanted more story in the OW universe, I also incidentally do not like linear stories with their overwhelming focus on a central conflict; as they risk causing a feeling of narrative claustrophobia. While a central conflict gives for an easy entry-point as for why a story's audience should care, it also acts as a point of pain if it isn't succinct and to the point. To that end, I feel that one of OW's greatest strengths was it's capacity to be an anthology, with the "central conflict" being an active force in the background; i.e. how OW (the organization) it's downfall and rebirth affect various people across the globe for better or worse. As an active force within the world, OW doesn't even need to be a direct player in each character's lives, because it's presence shapes global perception in a way that inspires feelings, behaviors, and actions.

Didn't think this video was going to be about character writing based on the title of the video, but it was pleasant watching it anyway. Might watch few of your other video and maybe even sub. It's nice to take a break from balance talk about these heroes.

I also thought this was going to be the approach for OW2's story from now on, let's focus on the characters and connect them with each other and the world; but seeing Illiari and her entire lore, I'm not sure they abandoned their old habits completely 🤣🤣🤣 It's overall an improvement though, so I'll take it. Can't wait for BlizzCon, I'm hoping they have some lore related announcement🤞

I really want some more story with basically anything in junkertown especially since you'd think they'd do anything about how junkrat and roadhog have high bounties or junkrat knowing of a (possibly real) treasure that could be something talon or overwatch wants

At first I thought this video was about how not to use specific character and how to use specific character. For example dont use brigitte as a frontline support and think you will tank everything, instead use her as a support that is a bit more on the backline and only get close at the right time. But this is fine too.

I'll take this opportunity to hate on how they're killing the gency ship to focus on pharmercy. It feels so forced. Genji and Mercy have history together, and good chemistry. Plus they've been teasing that for so long. It feels like they're only doing it because of Pharah and Mercy in-game synergy.
