I was at this show 30 years ago, these guys are best LIVE! Russ did have the best line up back in the day. Put them all back together for farewell tour!
Tony Morales is a ridiculously underrated drummer and one of my favorites growing up, his style of playing influenced my style of drumming. He's amazing.
This is the concert I watched on, I think PBS that turned me on to The Rippingtons. I've been a fan since. I really wish that Kim, David and Steve would get back with the band. Just glad that Jeff is back.
What an amazing day that would be to cruise around the harbor in your boat, listening to the Rippingtons live....... we had no idea how good times were back then
russ freeman is great and every album that I opened had something worth listening to on it. but you got to give it to jeff too on this video he just wails on that sax it's badass
@sethtriggs Russ was playing that on the Roland Guitar Synth. I've seen him do this dozens of time. Dont feel all alone in your questioning, someone always ask that question.
I was able to hear Spyro Gyra at the 1984 Newport News Jazz Festival. The early SG was just as impressive as the early Rip's. Awesome music, awesome chemistry, excellent delivery. Just a sweet, "No way you just played that!" kinds of moments...
All I remember about the one time I saw them in concert is Steve Reid, and the BEAST that he was on percussion that night. There were more people waiting for his autograph, than for any other member of the band. It was as if he was a cult hero of sorts.
Here's a first generation Rip's segment uploaded by the Rip's first bassist, Bill Lanphier. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WUWqH8FO9w8.html Only true Rippingtons purists could name all the players in the segment ............
This is awesome! I wonder why in this and the other live version of Curves Ahead they don't show who is playing the synth intro. It sounds like it was an EWI but I never saw it - and it didn't seem like Mark was playing the part from the video. Am kinda confused, heh... I love this anyway.
