What are your thoughts on the King Killer Chronicles?

"The Long Journey of No Books" sounds, ironically, like a Rothfuss title

It does, but it should be more lyrical, "The Long Journey Of Literature Lost" is more like it.

I don't knock the guy for having writers block. I've tried to write and I keenly feel the pain of writing yourself into a corner or just running out of imagination or motivation to continue a piece that is, as of yet, half-finished. You can't force creativity and I'd rather he not write a book than write a mediocre, phoned-in one and end up ruining his previous titles by capping them off with crap. What I really, REALLY dislike is lies. If you're stuck, say that. If you gave up on a series, just admit it. Don't string people along and sell them horse manure on your progress or your intentions.
@J.R.Carrel
@J.R.Carrel 7 месяцев назад
I think that is the main issue is the lying or lack of real updates
@AndragonLea
@AndragonLea 7 месяцев назад
@@J.R.Carrel Eh. At this point I think most people realize the only real update is "to be continued?", but I think he should tear the band aid off and just say it. Can't be worse than what's going on now, lol.

I loved the first 2 books (don’t know about best written ever), but they were well written & fun. And then I forgot he existed 😂 I gave up on a 3rd book long ago. This is why I’m writing all 3 in my trilogy at once, THEN releasing back to back. And never writing a trilogy again 😂 F’n hard! Props to series writers who can do it 😳👏

Ironically, Rothfuss did literally the same thing and wrote his trilogy first. The issue was that in the edit for publishing, the first book changed so much that he had to change book 2, and the changes to book 2 changed the story cumulatively so much that book 3 needed to be restarted from scratch. Hopefully the exact same thing doesn't happen to you.

I’m still a fan of Rothfuss. I totally get writers block and perfectionism, so I tend to cut him slack on that. Breaking the fundraiser promise isn’t cool though.

had to put this on 1.5 speed to keep from getting bored. but i agree that im kinda over it, even if he does finally release the last book. i totally devoured the first two books, so its a shame to see it fizzle out like this. it did seem like he kinda painted himself into a corner tho, as i recall at the end of book 2 he was still in school. like the equivalent of being a sophomore. and then had to get all the way to killing the big bad by the end of his next book. rothfuss has such a meticulous writing style, i dont think he couldve upped the pace and still been happy with it. ah well, another missed opportunity. but, theres a million other fantasy authors out there. ive actually been getting into the ACOTAR series lately to see what the fuss is all about, and yall those books are wild

The books are objectively incredible. No story is perfect, and there will always be holes to poke. But we are lucky to have had the 2 books so far. I sympathise with PR when it comes to writers block, and mental health stuff. I genuinely wish him all the best. These videos highlighting his pitfalls and mistakes heavily contribute to his writers block and state of his mental health. What I don’t agree with, and I feel was disingenuous, was the promise of the DOS chapter. He needs to right that wrong simply because people parted with money in order to hear the elusive chapter. I believe that is the ONLY gripe people can rightly have with PR. The rest is none of our business, we are not owed a story.

I was bamboozled into reading the frst book. I think it's one of the worst books I've ever read. I cringed when he taught a professor in his fist day of class, or people cried when he played the lute. It was nonsense. To top it all off, there wasn't even a story. Things happened, I guess. He paid tuition. Was the climax the dug addicted dragon?
@danielbroome5690

Ah, you didn't pick up on the fact that the MC's the least reliable narrator ever eh? The non-3-act structure plot is just a taste thing, not a flaw necessarily, but book 2 is far better in that regard. A lot of the interesting things to do with this series is reading between the lines to figure out exactly what's going on that the MC doesn't know or doesn't tell us.
@J.R.Carrel

I think that's been the big thing people have always said that he's unreliable narrator
@jamesalexander958
@jamesalexander958 7 месяцев назад
@@danielbroome5690 I don't buy the unreliable narrator excuse. Sure it may be true, who knows, but in what way does that make you interpret the story in a more interesting way? That's what the devise allows. The perfect example is Life of Pi. The story is totally different when you figure out you've been lied to.

I do not believe he has fallen. In fact, the Narrow Road Between Desires dropped a weeks ago. It's in my TBR pile, next on the list. There are many authors who have still have sequels TBD coming up on the 10+ year mark. Nobody faults Scott Lynch for not releasing The Thorn of Emberlain yet.

Well, at least not to the extent with which Rothfus gets called out. But then again, Lynch has been very open about his (mental) health issues. People know why it is taking him so long. Pat's communication has not been the best. Especially after the controversy with the charity not to long ago I do understand why general attitude has soured towards the KKC.
