Look up subutai and jebe. Part of Chinggis khan' success is cause of these two generals. They conducted the undefeated campaigns from India to Russia, Korea to Italy. Jebe was even an enemy of Chinngis khan and shot him in the neck. But instead of vengeance, Chinggis Khan chose to recognize his skills and character. Subutai outlived Chinggis Khan and even taught the later khans.

First ever Mongolian state appeared in 20th century. Before 20th century Mongolians had neither their own state, nor their own army. What historians are referring to as Mongolian Empire, actually was a Russian-Tatar empire. Tatars are Europeans. Tatar ethnos originated on the northern coast of Black Sea.
Asia was colonized by Volga Tatars. Many Asian tribes in the process of colonization lost their languages and switched to one or other dialect of Tatar language. After the defeat in a civil war, an old regime horde moved to Central Asia and it also contributed to spreading of Tatar language into Asia.
One of the many things that was good about this video was the actual topic selection. Instead of trying to have a somewhat seamless chronology (which would have been impossible in 20 minutes) you picked out some of the most important things a generalist observer needs to know about the mongols. Choosing those topics and linking them without making them mere bullet points is a very difficult task and you did it extremely well.
He failed to mention their décisive loss against the Muslim Mamluk army the Most decisive historic battle that stopped the mongol expansioin Ain Jalut (Goliath) battle
Subutai is considered by historians to be one of the greatest generals of all time. He was the chief military strategist of both Genghis Khan and his son Ogedei. The Mongol Empire is documented as the largest land empire ever. Subutai had a lot to do with this but history generally fails to properly give him the credit.
Well during Genghis khans era. Genghis khan himself was a chief tactican. After that Muqali and Boorchi were most likely chief generals. Subutai wasnt chief or main tactician of Genghis khan. Even Jebe wasnt
Yeah, the fact that Mongolia invaded Russia in the midst of winter while Germany couldn't do it with MUCH more soldiers and industrialization more than half a thousand years after is astonishing. But Mongols were more wild, and their climate is closer to Russia's than it's case with Germany.

From the show "Draining the oceans" they were able to discover that the fleet that tried to invade Japan had poorly built ships which couldn't stand the rough storms of the deep sea. They were mostly Chinese and Korean coastal fishing and merchant ships. If they had prepared proper war ships things might have taken a different turn.
@@kazkaskazkas8689 Chinese fleets didn't even land in japan, they didn't want to help the mongols attack japan. Those who invaded japan were the mongol and korean fleets in the north.

You wonder if the world might have been different without losing a hundred thousand warriors or even double that on the way to Japan. Who knows how powerful they would've become after conquering the entire Asian region and even slightly beyond that. As every area they conquered, that countries people were forced to join their army.
I just want to add that defining Genghis Khan into "Mongol" or Mongolian and defining Jin, Song, Tangut into Chinese deviate from the authentic history during that time. The term Mongol & Chinese did not exist during that time.
Imagine living in peace and prosperity never knowing war or hardship surrounded by your loved ones and then suddenly there's screaming and shouting and sounds of fighting and people running in panic and everything you ever knew about life turns out to be wrong.
Kublai Khan was never the great Khan. In fact he was a fat lazy failure. But had a mind for technologies. He needed the help of Mongke Khan to defeat China. It was Mongke who was "great Khan". Plenty of other mistakes as well. But that was the most glaring. And it was an overall, a good accounting. Funny how the mighty Hulegu' and Batu Khans were barely mentioned. Both were the spearheads of most of their greatest expansions.
Because they (Mongolian) lived to conquer but not to rule. The Persian, the Roman, all failed and under ashes now. Chinese on the other hand, their empire is still much the same till these days.
The Romans and Mongols, you can't compare them. It's almost like civilizations of 2 worlds. Romans - civilized, educated, great rulers, have good generals which can conquer too.. Meanwhile, Mongols - eager for revenge to those who underestimated them, only conquer and aren't really born to rule unlike Romans. If you had Roman mind in charge of the country with soldiers like Mongols you'd probably have the greatest empire in history. But those two wouldn't fit together, different races and viewpoints... Totally.
Full story?? There are big missing part when Mongol (Kublai Khan) experienced huge defeats against Majapahit Kingdom, Nusantara (Indonesian today) in 1293 AD. Also got defeated by Delhi Sultanate (Indian today) in 1306 AD.
It was too bad that the Mongol invasion of Persia resulted in the destruction of the great Baghdad library. There was so much accumulated knowledge from accross Asia, Africa, and Europe...
There was no Russia at the time buddy. It was Russ, it wasn't the size of Russia and it was a bunch of little kingdoms that hated each other. The Russ wouldn't lift a finger to help the other neighbors and one by one they felt, but even so their small little kingdoms gave the Mongols a run for their money. If Russ was united the Mongols would had probably failed.
Oh really? Then what do you make of the facts that Mongols had successfully annihilated and brought down highly civilised and military powerful Empires like Khwarazm and whole Chinese kingdoms. They weren’t just tiny little kingdoms like Rus and Ukrainian principles. Yet these countries fielded way more soldiers than entire Mongol population in that time and age.

Tanguts are manchus. The jalair mongols (inhabited modern day buryatia and northern mongolia) are the ancestors of the khalkha mongols. Also genghis khan proclaimed the “eh mongol” empire not “eh turk” empire, why else do you think modern day mongolians are FAR more steppe nomadic traditional than any turkic people today.
Mongolia was filled with mongolic, turkic and allegedly even siberian nomadic people (even today, there are many turko-mongol people in mongolia). Tatars are turkic, different than mongols, but back then they were all viewed as the same because they were all multi-religious tribal nomadic horse people often seen as savages by the chinese. So the chinese saw any nomadic horsemen from the steppes as the same even though they were different ethnics. Because of this they used to refer to them as tatars because they were one of if not the most dominant clan before mongols became a thing. After mongols became the dominant ones, they referred them all as mongols even though MANY of them were turkic. Genghis actually committed genocide on many tatars because a tatar tribe had killed his father when he was little. Because of this many early historians thought tatars, kazakhs (the ones in mongolia) etc. were all same as mongols. But as study of genealogy and history progressed they realized who was more closely related to who and which ones were turk and mongol etc.
Japan is not the only kingdom that become Kublai target, he also try to expand south Into Indochina and indonesian archipelago. He make 2 failure attemp to invade dai viet and an embarrassing failure expedition to subjugate Singhasari kingdom in Indonesia.
The mongols were truly a vast moving army and a nightmare to deal with but their empire was interestingly doomed compared to the romans because unlike rome the mongols didn't offer unity under any kind of common culture it was just subjugation by a barbarian horde and as soon as the leadership faltered the conquered nations would break free. Just shows that military strength isn't enough to unite disparate cultures
I am laughing into tears when this video mentioned that Mongolian conquered Beijing. Come on. The city of Beijing was built by Mongolian. Before Mongolian, the city of Beijing was nothing but an unknown small town. Mongolian moved its capital to there, and named it as “big capital’ or Kahan Balig.
Please don't mixup Mongolian Ghenghis Khan with the Chinese. Most Chinese were farmers at that time while the Mongolians were on horseback. China has a history of more than 5000 years and rice growing 10000 years. The Mongolian appear much later and they look after animals such as goats and horses.
I highly recommend Dan Carlins “Wrath of Khan” podcast if you’d like to hear in-depth about the mongol rise to power. 5 episodes and between 3-5 hours each. Great storyteller

Meat-eating Mongols were probably a huge factor when Genghis Khan expanded his empire. Some historians discuss the fact that Mongol soldiers were superior to Chinese soldiers because the Mongols ate a diet with high-quality meat and fat, making them strong and healthy. The Chinese soldiers were fed mostly rice which made them weaker. Also, the Mongolian soldiers ate a lot of raw meat and did not have to prepare food during wartime, which also gave them an advantage on the battlefield.
That was not a raw meat, that was a “Borts” it’s cold air dried meat. Borts is more nutritious, and said to be tastier, than other modern field rations. There is an unconfirmed method from old times: Mongolian nobles relied on borts for months-long journeys. Dried carefully for three years and then ground into a fine powder, until it all could fit through a sieve. It further shrinks volume of the borts so whole cow's meat can fit into a cow's bladder. Just a pinch of borts prepared like this said to able to nourish 3-4 people in a soup form.
@@mekhzakhq976 Sounds like Pemmican that indians used to prepare in America. Many historians claims that Mongols did eat raw meat though. Somethimes they would take the raw meat and place it on the saddle of their horse and sit on it when riding. After a while the meat would soften up and became less tough to chew.
