However, rumors are spreading that the ancient capital of Shurima has been restored and its emperor has returned.

Shurima used to be a powerful empire that stretched across the far southern tip of a vast continent. After an entire age of growth and prosperity, the last Shurim Emperor was betrayed by his closest friend and the empire was doomed. Its shining capital was almost completely destroyed by a terrible earthquake, the empire was left in ruins, and the people of Shurim were scattered across the desert as the homes of the people in the mighty cities were consumed by the burning sand. Shurima is now just a wasteland, a merciless desert where only the strongest survive. Its inhabitants stick to the last few oases and a narrow strip of fertile land along the coast.
In the millennia since the fall of Shurima, stories of the radiant Sun Disc have become mere legends or a dying religion among the descendants of the people who survived the fall of the glorious empire. Most Shurim residents now inhabit tribal enclaves near sources of drinking water or live in camps built on the ruins of fallen cities, where they revere the glory days of a time long gone. Some search for treasures in the ruins of the empire and thus make a living, others make a living as mercenaries who provide their services to rich buyers, after which they return to the endless desert after their work is done. Others try to forget the past, look to the future and look for new business partners across the ocean.
However, the ancient legends of Shurima are not sleeping peacefully and are reawakening to life. Whispering winds from the very heart of the desert tell of mighty cities rising again from the depths, and of a golden warrior marching at the head of an army of sand. Tales abound of the rebirth of ancient heroes and of a war between the gods that will shake the very foundations of the earth.
The great city of Shurima has risen and nothing will be the same again.
