What happened to RocketJump on RU-vid? Why is Freddie Wong famous? What is Freddie Wong doing these days? Who owns RocketJump? What movies was Freddie Wong in? Will there be a VGHS Season 4? Are Freddie Wong and Jimmy Wong related? Those are the questions you may be asking yourselves on RU-vid. In this video, I will go over Freddie Wong's entire RU-vid career, his creation and involvement with RocketJump, why Freddie Wong left RU-vid, and what Freddie Wong, Brandon Laatch, and Jimmy Wong are up to after RU-vid.

Besides his recent work with Dropout and Dimension 20, I'm assuming he's quietly working in the video editing industry, like for television or cinema. I don't actually know, but you have to remember that his youtube channel was also his production studio, so it's a natural assumption that they just found steady work in the industry that isn't worth making youtube videos for.

Freddie and his friends don't get enough credit these days. They are probably one of the hardest working dudes in the internet space. It's because they love what they do. Even though they wanted to move a little beyond RU-vid, to me, they were the REAL last RU-vidrs of my generation. Classic RU-vid wasn't about the money it was about making cool stuff for people to watch and they did that. I will always remember the cool stuff they made on this site.
@Dave_the_Dave

It's pretty awesome how many cool things spun off those early videos. Not that they wouldn't/couldn't have become popular in their own right, but the Corridor Digital channel, and Brandon's company, and Node, etc are kind of all the next generation offspring of some early RU-vid viral videos.

An interesting takeaway from this is that part of what made Freddy stop making short, VFX heavy videos was RU-vid starting to prefer and reward longer videos. Definitely an unintended, and very unfortunate, consequence.

@@lordfrz9339 what is so weird is that shorter videos have always been better. The only thing that has varied is whether Google's algorithm rewards shorter or longer videos. I graduated film school just after Google purchased RU-vid and people were doing studies on ideal video lengths. Even after Google increased the maximum video length beyond 10 and 15 minutes, it didn't matter because most viewers wouldn't pay attention that long anyway.

I think nowdays is way harder to produce this type of content, sadly... You'd have to start from 0 OR invest your money into it, we're talking -just like freddy did- all nighters and heavy workloads to put out these videos weekly, you can't do that AND have a job to eat while you hit it big. So unless someone throws a million dollars at it, maybe two, and produces the whole thing from scratch, it'd take years for a content creator to get big enough to do this sort of stuff again. And it's SAD, it's irreplaceable and always remember, this is a thing youtube STOLE from us. the corpo greed and the current state of ads and viewtime vs views is what kills this sort of content.

My God, i can't believe VGHS is over 10 years old...I was in like 6th grade when season 1 was releasing. I watched so many beloved youtubers get crushed under the weight of ever increasing demands from the algorithm

I stuck with rocket jump for years actually. Back when they were still called freddiew, watching all of VGHS and ACD. All the shorts and stuff. I didn’t even realize four years passed after rocketjump stopped uploading and i felt a pit sink in my stomach when I did realize just how much time passed. I’m glad to see that Freddie is still doing stuff. It’s sad to see things come and go, and it would’ve been nice to see a goodbye video, but I’m just glad Freddie seems to have just moved on and not died or got cancelled or some other BS drama. It’s sad that a platform that is meant to hold creations of whatever you want, is not sustainable as a job if you don’t meet certain very specific criteria. I love content that is being produced these days, for sure. Even videos like this one here. But the fact that you can’t live off of what makes Hollywood sustainable is probably soul crushing. Imagine creating stuff that rivals big name studios, only to be constantly gate kept to being a RU-vidr, even by your own platform. But, love what Freddy Wong does these days, and love what he’s done! It even seems like a couple of people who worked beside him, as well as himself, constantly are pushing the envelope to this day!

This is more of a chronical of Freddy's career than what happened to him. I would recommend breaking down all the events into different eras for easier viewing and grasping of timelines. Time slips and slides all over. and sometimes numbers of dates alone don't quantify it. I know I struggle to properly estimate when it was I did something and trying to remember what space I was in 7 or more years ago seems arduous. anyway, that's my only constructive criticism I have for your video. his story reminds me of the cartoon family tree. where one channel just leads into another, I never knew corridor was made by a former rocket jump creator. like I heard of a guy named jimmy Wong who played a part in rocket jump and ending up being an important character in the game Bonelab and a little bit of Boneworks. wow I never know that a lot of creators I liked would be connected in such a cool way. and in retrospect i can see how "stress level zero" was made by a "former rocket jump" creator, the story of Boneworks feels like something rocket jump would make. glad to see they are truly doing something great with their carrier's years down the line.

the golden era from 2010 to 2013 of rocket jump is gone but never forgotten, the channel might very well die but the memories shall last until the last of us who seen its prime fade into the earth memory

Man! This truly hit me in the nostalgic bone. Back then creators used to be so passionate, unique and creative. FreddieW, Smosh, Corridor, NigaHiga, etc etc, were my favorites to go to and would legit wait with bated breath for a new upload! Nowadays most of them just sit at home and react to stuff.

If we ever get a sequel to VGHS I will be the happiest person on Earth.

You missed out the Old Western band that Jimmy and Corridor Digital formed called The Keep. They only released 1 EP if I'm not wrong, and Jimmy was the singer and guitarist in that. Their "Slow In Reverse" is still a jam to this day.

I encourage everyone to listen to his DnD podcast Dungeons and Daddies! It's so funny and entertaining, Freddie's characters are great and Anthony is a really good DM

Freddie and Brandon were literally my heroes during teenage years! They were the reason I was introduced to Corridor Digital. I thought VGHS would propel the channel and Freddie + Brandon to big heights. Idk why they faded :/

FreddieW was a visionary. He called it RU-vid Shorts before RU-vid called it RU-vid Shorts.
