Yeah..... I had no idea that the description had a word limit so what I have done instead is I made a comment (in which I have pinned so it's the first one you see) citing the video credits and info sources. I have never made a large description before so this was a whole new experience for me. Next time I do one of these I'll include the sources and shit at the end of the video in a movie like credit format. Sorry for the confusion.
Anyway, this video has been in the works for about 2 full months and I am happy to present you all a video that I like to call, “The Rise & Fall of Midway Games”
I have a soft spot in my heart for Midway, I grew up playing their games and recently I noticed that I never come across this brand anymore. Little did I know that the company that I knew and loved, went out of business nearly 10 years ago. Some of you guys are probably saying how did you not know that? Well the answer is very simple. Even though I am a gamer as well as a collector, I dont & have never followed gaming news (or news in general honestly). I like to be kinda ill informed so I can go into games with as little knowledge as possible and as unbiased as possible... if that makes sense.
I did cut out about 12 extra minutes of content that I felt just didnt belong in this video, or just me rambling about games. Examples being
1. Me complaining about midway shitting out sequels to games that were horribly received & or didn't sell well.
2. Talked about 2 other games in specific that I grew up with... one being good and one being horrific.
3. Talked more in depth about Midway's Bankruptcy... Got rid of that segment because it was redundant.
4. Went more in depth about Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Annihilation, and Deception, in reference to how the series was doing in terms of popularity and critical reviews.
5. More talk about handheld titles and pinball machines that didnt really lead to anything worthwhile.

Midway is just one of those companies, man. I feel like I saw their name all the time growing up, to the point where I became interested in them at a very young age. Mortal Kombat, LA Rush, Hydro Thunder, Midway Arcade Treasures 3; I have very fond memories of all of these games, and loved them all as a kid, and that drove me to look into them and buy some of their arcade compilations that were coming out at the time, such as Midway Arcade Origins and whatever came out on iOS. Definitely one of the most important video game companies to me along with Sega and id Software.

It saddens me to know the company went down but maybe it was for the best. Companies today are microtransaction nightmares. What I miss about Midway (1990s) was their style. The use of a porn star for a trophy girl in Cruisin USA was brilliant. Kids arent evil but eventually they grow up and things like that or violent games are bridges to adulthood. I'm in my late 30s and dont have any felony arrests. Everything now is buggy, expensive and safe (appealing for everyone....stupid)

SistemaGaming I worked there, if it was still around they would have been the ones who invented micro transactions. I worked with one of the top executives and he would have charged a micro transaction for every attack move on mortal kombat. Funny thing is, one of the executives from this company was responsible for some of the earliest micro transactions on the Apple store. Everything those executives of this company touched turned into crap.

@@ajxx9987 Konami's Lethal Enforcers is a slow-paced light-gun shooter that feeling like Dirty Harry and Sega's Virtua Cop takes LE a whole new level of 3D gaming; meanwhile... Atari/Mesa Logic's Area 51 (1995)/Maximum Force feels more extreme than LE's, being a fast-paced shooter that feels like it came from a John Woo flick, Namco's Time Crisis did the same feel as Area 51/MF.

I was a tester for that "This is Vegas" game. I can't remember much of it but there issn't very much to talk about. There was very little to do in a video game that had been in production for so long. One of those games that was very ambitious but delivered very little.

In 1978, a black kid at Time Zone Arcade showed me how to “pop” pennies up the coin return on Midway Games. From then on, I could play any Midway game for one cent. I’d sell games 2 for price of 1 or 5 for a dollar. Then I’d take that dollar and play Donkey Kong. I got really good at DK. I had the high score of 64,000+. Crowds would gather around when I played. I must have popped 1 million pennies into those games. I’ve always wanted to find that kid at Time Zone and thank him.

Thanks my men. For your video i really grew up with midway and that was my first time listen to th history of them. I really was asking myself what happen to them . And then i saw the new arcade similar to midway by raw thrills which are part of the same company. I like those kind of stuff. Even that im not fluent speak inglish.

Gauntlet legends was my childhood, my dad me my sister and mom all played, I still replay that game till this day sometimes I’m 26 my sister is 29 and we still talk about it. That game was AMAZING!

I bought shares of Midway Games before the bankruptcy like $1,000 worth because I believed that Mortal Kombat can be a real success and also I loved the game when it came out in the arcades across California where I lived.

Midway was putting out some really good games through 2005. I remember playing different games from them that came out at the same time. Psi ops, the suffering, area 51, mortal combat, and second sight. I thought in 04 they would be around now. I would love to see them remastered also Parasite eve 1 & 2

The Parasite Eve game was Square Enix. Sega had a couple from the Mid 90's I would like to see remade, Landstalker, and Dark Wizard.

don’t get me wrong, their parent company, I still love in their casino work, cause you see that side now, but I miss their arcade work, especially when it was the arcade trio of them, williams and bally. I had always dreamed of them at least killing an arcade comeback with crossovers and official partnerships. I had wanted a midway/nintendo partnership, cause the way both sides handle music, whew! top tier.

The DDI one had a much different feel because it's a company with such little history. Some argue that it's not hard to find, in some cases yes... but the main problem is the mass amounts of conflicting information. It's impossible to really delve into the background in even a moderate amount because you're bound to spill untrue information. It's not something i was comfortable doing. So next best thing was to go in the way of talking about the games and how poorly they were received by both critics and players.

At their peak Midway was hit after hit. They also had their own style which I feel was uniquely theirs. I loved that they brought arcade games to home consoles and we will probably rarely see that anymore (rip arcades). Most of their sports games are way more fun than what is released now. I wish for a legit new NFL Blitz, NHL Hitz, NBA Jam. Best arcade racing, I was so happy for switch to come out with Cruis’n Blast! Hopefully that trend continues…

hmm, you've listed every game and console under the sun that had a conection with Midway studios except for The suffering: Prison is hell (plus potentially it's sequel The ties that bind). I am not sure how that game slipped passed you. It's a shame, I really wanted to ear your opinion on it.

I left out a ton of games actually. If i were to actually sit down and talk about every single midway game in detail, this video would be like 3 hours long. Anyway i do have an opinion on the suffering. It's an underated game that could have done better if perhaps the game had more media exposure. I never saw one commercial of this game or heard anything about it until i just randomly decided to rent it one day at a local blockbuster. I am a horror game lover. I have played 100's of "scary" games over the years. Having said that The Suffering doesn't do a whole lot for me. Is it a good game? Yeah i mean i like it and think people should check it out, But it doesn't come close to being my favorite in the horror genre.

Ah, I didn't know there were even more games made/published by them. Before watching this video the only games i knew belong to Midway were the suffering ones and Psi-ops. I'm glad to have your input on the game. I myself found the game to be awesome because of the creature design (more original than just going with generic zombies), the sound/music was well done + it came out in a time where you could still have weapons in a horror game, which I like. Thanks for making the video, I've learned a lot :o

...One oversight: Midway did NOT distribute Battletoads arcade, unlike the two Killer Instinct games. Electronic Arts did, when they were still a fairly cool company (the year was 1994, but it still happened several months before KI was a thing).

Yes (forgot where in the video i talked about battletoads.) Although technically Tradewest were the ones to distribute the console battletoads games in the early 90's. Tradewest would later be purchased by Midway in 94.

@@FoxParasyteIt sometimes puzzles me that Midway didn't push to handle distribution on the Battletoads arcade game after they bought Tradewest and renamed them Midway Home Entertainment. Unless, Midway already handled Killer Instinct for Rare and they couldn't be bothered with the workload.
