Very informative conversation about the purpose and direction of African /Black art in our world. The world is waking up to the presence and realization of black art, and its importance and exposure to the world.
Actually, it was NOT BLM that impacted museums and galleries, finally showing more Black contemporary artists' works. It was primarily due to Kerry James Marshall speaking at numerous museums/galleries, universities, and interviews nationally and internationally over the last 20+ years about the intentional exclusion of Black artists (and Black patrons) in museums and major galleries. The recent raise of Black artists in museums and galleries is the culmination of decades of work by Black art scholars, curators, established artists, and the guilt of WP during COVID. Not BLM!!! Also, unfortunately living artists don't receive any of that money from those million dollar auction sales. It all goes to the owners-sellers ifcthe artwork. The rare exception is if the works are sold in auctions by galleries representing living artists.
Everyone has benefited from the "black lives matter" movement except the actual "black lives" in the ghettos of America that are constantly used to push these cute catch phrases.
