The fundamental understanding of Mahayana Buddhism is the Buddhism it redefines, which is Buddhism for the human world. Its fundamental understanding is that Buddhism must be of the human world, of the sentient world, but not of the world of objects. Buddhists must go deep into life, and the rules of Buddhism must not be rigid. They must spread the Dharma as the world changes. Only by going deep into all sentient beings and saving all sentient beings can we fundamentally follow the Buddha's teachings. If you rigidly hold to the tenets of Buddhism, this is a departure from Buddhism.
